Yes Cheery, I am the same the work we have is not allowed to be saved onto the laptop for confidentiality reasons and we have a secure server too. They have just agreed that because of my problems I am now allowed to save to memory stick (this was banned for a while) and so that is what I try to do now. I do, however clear the memory stick once it is finished. I have times when I cannot access the server for a few days though so if yours is only intermittent then the best way to go is the way that you are doing it. It is still very frustrating though.
So not only are you an incognito lighthouse photographer you are an incognito ???????

    Yep :D

I think some people have encrypted memory sticks (we even use encrypted voice recorders for interviews), but you usually only get one if you can't access the server. Usually fine, just my internet's been a bit out of sorts in the snow (no idea if it's connected to the snow at all!) :D

Hi, just spotted this on the grabbit board, thought of you and travelling. Dates are from January but it might get you a cheap ticket coming back if it falls in with your dates. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2914304

Eek .... life gets more and more complex! I made a decision ages ago that to avoid all Data Protection issues, I'd simply write my notes in longhand, and they'd never leave the house. Gulp.

phew that you got through to the works server. You're lucky, not only are we unable to do any work from home without a encrypted laptop we're also not allowed to connect to work via the internet unless you've got an encrypted router and security tags. Bah it just means that you can't bring work home with you, though sometimes that would be really handy. And don't even go there with memory sticks they're obsessed with them at work!

can i have a hot chocolate as well? please?

Of course you can LT! :coffee:

Goodness, that does sound rather a lot of encryption! We can use our own laptops, as long as they're not shared, the temporary drives are wiped after use, and we go through the online virtual thingy, which has two levels of passwords. I suppose it's a good thing really!

Just finished working for the day :D Mr Daffs just got in the bath, so I'm going to do an hour of PhD now, although my eyes are going a bit goggly from staring at this blinkin screen all day! Perhaps I'll have a small break and do Shred instead :D (that's enough to make anybody work isn't it?!) :D

I know I have to get used to it cherisong! Part of the problem is that a lot of the stuff I work on is VERY confidential, and so I'm not allowed to save it to home computer (in case of yet another laptop-on-train scandal!), it has to go straight to work server...

When I'm working on my own stuff, I automatically press save every 30 seconds or so (using the keys, not the mouse), it's just a reflex action, and it's got me out of a few sticky spots in the past! However, with this, it takes a couple of minutes to save to the work server, so if I did it every 30 seconds I'd never get anything done! :rotfl: Compromising on every 15 minutes this afternoon (I was doing every hour this morning!) - that way I only lose 15 minutes of work if it doesn't work...

    We'll get there!

Just say to work "Terminal Server (or Citrix server) with persistant sessions." They'll know what you're talking about... ;)

Use encryption software such as trucrypt. Unless you're very careful, you're not really wiping your memory stick.

Doesn't matter. The second stab at the Data Protection Act relates to non-computery data too.

Don't you just love it... ;)
