Strangely enough, the first time I was allowed to go ice skating I broke my wrist in the first 5 minutes
I was 18, and I'd never been allowed before because my mum always said I'd do myself a mischief :rotfl: Bless her, she didn't *quite* say 'I told you so'... :rotfl: A few years later I had ice skating lessons, was terrified, but HAD to not let it beat me - I went for five weeks, had a great time twirling around and everything, didn't break anything, and have never been again since
My mum let me loose on the ice aged 5! Not as far to fall at that age! :rotfl: I ended up having several years of lessons as a kid before giving up then skated maybe once or twice a year up until June this year when I decided to loose weight and do some exercise and thought this'd be a fun way to do that. Now I'm thoroughly addicted again!Its a bit odd though... I go to the same rink as I did as a kid and some of the same coaches are still there. The one I have tonight in my group lesson *still* scares me a bit 20 odd years later! I feel like I'm 7 again and about to be told off for mucking about!
She has been nothing but lovely... its all in my head!! :rotfl:
I'm glad you don't need to be re-viva'd - There were 2 a few years ago here who did have to be. 1 was sent back to do a further couple of months of research and had to do major work on his thesis too. The other refused to co-operate much in her 1st viva! :eek:Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Yep, five mins, I went once all the way round the edge, holding on (having been made completely paranoid, of course, about having my fingers chopped off by a passing ice skate). Then I felt like I'd got the hang of it, let go, skating across the middle, fell on my ar*e, and landed on my hand which I'd put out behind me to stop me falling.... :rotfl: Nearly had to have rods put in it, but managed without in the end. Had to spend a night in hospital though and have it reset under general anaesthetic it was that badly wonked where I sat on it :rotfl:
Still a bit feeble in that arm now!
Another 40 mins done (finally!), so off for a walk. Struggling today, no excuses really, just not enthused. Which isn't the idea!
Still, scary presentation at work to look forward to tomorrow :eek:0 -

Gosh, just sat and wasted another hour and a half staring into space :mad: :eek:
And Mr Daffs has just left for a gig, and I'm hoping VERY much that the car I can hear spluttering and not starting in the street isn't ours.. :eek: Too scared to look :rotfl:
So, I have an evening to myself, having decided it would be more productive to stay in than go to the gig. I need to make sure I use the time sensibly!
So:
* 2 hours of PhD
* wash hair
* quick tidy in the kitchen
* sort clothes and bag for tomorrow
* early night!
So, I am going to shut the internet down and crack on for 3x40 minutes (I do 40 mins at a time because that's how long my CD lasts! :rotfl:). I don't want my face seen in here until I've done that! On the plus side, that should get the chapter finished if I get my head down and quit messing around :j :j0 -
Hope its working! My accounts ... I've got some papers out, and I'm looking at them, they're in my line of vision right now

cheery, i've only been ice skating once in my life and clung desparately to the edge of the rink the entire time. I was also obsessed with having my fingers cut off if i fell over, not even sure if it's possible but i still worry about that.
hope the PhD is growing.0 -

Ice skates don't seem that pointy LT when you get up close! Mind you, I reckon they could still do a fair bit of damage :eek: I'd rather not take the risk!
PhD is, in fact, growing :T :T I didn't finish my chapter, but I DID spend my two hours, no internet, head down, so that's more than 4 altogether today :T And I'm more than two thirds through chapter, so getting there! :T
I've also packed bag, sorted clothes, cleaned shoes, washed hair, and am just demolishing a bagel :rotfl:
Rather annoyed with myself, got a bit of a poorly toothI don't know why I have such an issue with teeth - I seem to feel like every time I have a problem it's some kind of moral failing, and I've got *lots* of fillings, so that means *lots* of moral failings. I think I had a really insensitive mean dentist at a particularly vulnerable time, and it had a really bad effect on me
Anyway, so at the front right hand side of my mouth I had a filling a couple of months ago. Generally fine, but if I eat directly on it, sometimes I get such a pain shooting up through it - even after they've filled it - which makes me think they missed a bit. Bottom left hand side, I told them I had a pain there last time I went in, and they said 'oh, we'll just keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse we'll sort it at your next check up'. WHY didn't I tell them to sort it there and then, because holes in teeth NEVER get better, only worse!
(am I cynical in thinking they wanted to save it up so they'd get a second filling payment out of me at the next check up?? :eek:)
Anyway, rang up today because I'm now struggling to eat - balancing food either at the front left side of mouth, or shooting it right to the back at the right, and hoping it doesn't hit the really sensitive bit at the frontHaving awful trouble with my bagel! :eek: No appointment til 10th December - but I mustn't have sounded like an emergency cos I told them I couldn't make it til at least Wednesday :rotfl:
<sigh> I hate dealing with teeth! (NOTE TO UNIVERSE: That does NOT mean I want them all to fall out like my dad's! :eek: :eek:)0
