    Ok then I won't iron my skirt :rotfl: Well, I might iron it, but on account of the other people we're going to visit (who also won't mind, and actually, after I've sat in a car for 4 hours it won't look like I've ironed it anyway! :rotfl:)

    Right, that's that off the list then! :rotfl:

    What else can I get rid of??? :rotfl:

    KC, £22 plus £4 for brekkie sounds great! :j :j I'm hoping to figure out something similar.

    Thats good then - I thought I'd be chucked out of the club because I didn't get a £9 deal :)
    Glad you managed to get ome stuff done KC, although sorry to hear you're still tired :( Gosh, it's lasting a good while, isn't it?? You poor thing.Mr Daffs has been poorly all week after eating a fat-drowned (home made! but not by us obviously) curry last weekend - he *knows* it does this to him, and he's not been like it for ever such a long time, but this week's been dreadful. Pah!
    I think because I don't have many reserves of strength, when I get something, it just poleaxes me, takes me ages to build back up. And we're prone to it in the family, but because I'm on my own, it takes me longer still.
    Where did you go in Wales KC? We didn't go very often (no car, and no money!), but did go to Black Rock (near Portmadog) every year to stay in a caravan :j :j It was where my mum went when she was a kid - and when my grandma died, my mum and her sister bought a caravan there, on the same site, and still go all the time :rotfl: Went to Llandudno a few times too :)
    All over really - at first, we went to Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, Llanfairfechan, places, like that. As my dad got the hunger to go further afield, we went on to Anglesey - often all the way to near Holyhead. I was carsick. Every journey - so while they were all looking at the scenery, I was glued to the window to try to get some fresh air :o Not my favourite memories :rotfl:

    KC, Hale sounds nicer than it actually is, it is ok for that area and is actually considered posh but I bet it would be nowhere near as nice as where you are living. There are a few nice thatched houses which are quite old and I imagine that when they were first built that it was a beautiful place. Shame that Speke airport (as I will always call it) is right next door and the planes are so low over the thatch that you could shake hands with the pilot.

    Yes, I can imagine its a bit noisy there these days! Where I live is beautifully green, but make no mistake, its ordinary 1930s council housing become private. What fascinates me about this town, tho, is that the houses weren't built in parallel streets, they were built in rounds - and nowadays, of course, space being at the premium that it is, quite a few of those areas have got infill housing on - but at the back of me, there's no infill housing, just 3 very long gardens, sideways on sort of thing - so my aspect is really good at the back as well as at the front.
    £22 is a great deal. I am never too sure about the breakfasts though. If it is a travelodge with a bar then you will be able to get cooked, otherwise it is normally a cereal bar, bowl of cereal and watered down juice. If I stay in a travelodge I have to pay £20 for the whole stay for Moo on top of the cost of the room.
    Thanks! Yes, I was wondering about this - a lot of it will be wheat, of couse ... but I had a quick vision of the alternative - camping in my room or something - and I couldn't bear it, so I'll just have loads of cornflakes and watered down juice :D and I'll nick all the fruit :rotfl:got to keep up the rep of all the scallies :D

    Anyway, have a great time today you two :j

    Well, I was aiming to leave at 9, we're still not quite ready but we'll make it before 10.30, so that's not a bad job! :rotfl: (we don't have a very good track record for leaving the house early - even when everything was done in advance!) But car is full of diesel, tyres done, picnic made, I'm packed, breakfasted, wigs are packed for halloween party :D

    Just going to throw everything in the car - then sit and drink a cuppa while Mr Daffs gets his act together :D

    Fortunately I was sensible enough to give us plenty of time - takes 3 hrs 45 mins apparently, and I'm meeting cherisong at 3, so there's still time! :j :j :j :j

    Soooo excited!

    sending you a pm Cheery, enjoy your visit with Cheri.
  • My friend taught me that when you really should iron a skirt but just don't have time/can't be bothered then put it on and run round the bottom with hair straighteners. Work's a treat!

    Afternoon all! Had an absolutely gorgeous weekend away :T Feel all refreshed now :T Met the lovely cherisong, who is, indeed, lovely :D (and the cafe was fab too - we went back the next day for another cuppa! :T)

    LT I will reply to your PM later today, trying not to get toooooo sidetracked :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Thanks for the tip Ruby, but, er, I don't have any hair straighteners :rotfl: is that a shocking admission??? :rotfl: I actually compromised - ironed the damn thing then sat in a car for 5 hours so it looked like I hadn't bothered :rotfl:

    Anyway, veering between cheery and glum today :o Felt positive about my 50 day challenge :T :T But still need to do some planning. Then got all upset in the charity shop - I'm wearing a size 14 trousers :o which are a bit big. Yesterday I tried on a size 12 - couldn't get anywhere near done up. This morning I tried on a size 14 pair of jeans - only just did up. Got a bit cross - then poor old Mr Daffs (who didn't realise *quite* how wound up I was about it) found a pair of size 10/12 trousers that he liked, I insisted they wouldn't fit, he insisted they would because they were 'really huge' - and, well, you can imagine where the whole thing ended up :o

    Think I was a little hungry, but I'm also underlyingly dissatisfied with both my weight and my seeming inability to do something about it :o I have in the past got down to 9 stone (I'm 11 stone 1 now), I know I can stick at 9.5 stone, so that's what I'm aiming for. I also know I struggle when I'm stressed, so I put on lots and lots last time I finished the phd, and only lost about a stone of it. I don't want to do that again! :eek: However, focusing on 'losing weight' isn't very positive, so instead I'm going to create food and exercise goals I can stick to, and at least I'll be eating/living healthily, and the weight can take care of itself :T

    So - brace yourselves for a few self indulgent sorting-life-out posts... :D

    50 DAY CHALLENGE

    I am joining in with MG's 50 day challenge, running from TODAY until 20th December :D Since I will be going on holiday around 20th December, and since I would like to have PhD finished by then, this seems like the ideal opportunity... So my three main challenges are going to be:

    (1) finish PhD
    (2) be ready for Christmas
    (3) stay healthy and sane while doing both :rotfl:

    And in a bit more detail...:

    (1) finish PhD
    Much as I would LOVE to have the whole thing printed bound and submitted before Christmas, that's a bit of a tall order, and I do *not* want to rush the end like I did last time. SO, instead, what I'm going to do is have it finished before I go away, and proofread, and then after Christmas have a final read through, print, bind and submit. I've agonised about which way to do this, and I think what I really missed last time was a couple of weeks to leave it and then come back to it - I missed all kinds of stupid mistakes because I read it too quickly :o So this is what I'll do, but no ducking out and saying 'oh, I'll just finish the conclusions when I get back' - NO! :rotfl:

    I'm going to do some more detailed planning this week about what exactly I'll need to do when, whose help I'll need to enlist, deadlines, meetings, etc.

    (2) be ready for Christmas
    Two strands to this one:

    (a) Christmas holidays
    I'm going to stay in the gorgeous Pippi's house over Christmas :j :j Soooo excited :D But there's things to work out - ferries, money, timing, what to take, sorting out the car to sleep in, itinerarrryryryry etc - all cheery, but don't want to leave them til the last minute!

    (b)Christmas presents
    Not sure I'm going to be able to make as many as I did last year with PhD still to finish (I'd submitted by this time last year - a year ago yesterday in fact! :o (goodness me, what a year!). So I need to work out a budget, when everyone needs presents by (I won't be seeing family til after Christmas), there's a few birthdays around Christmas too, need to figure out what everyone's getting...

    (3) Staying healthy and sane
    Remember my enormous hormonal heap a collapsed into a couple of weeks back?? That has to *not* happen again! :rotfl: Something similar happened at the end of PhD the first time round :o So I *need* to stay healthy, *need* to. This is only very partly about losing weight - this is more importantly about keeping control of eating, and making sure I don't completely sideline exercise, because I *know* I'll feel better when I do it...

    So, waffled on a bit there! But that's the thinking behind the goals. Spent some time over the weekend sorting a specific and achievable plan for the week :j so I'll put that in a separate post then I can keep track...

    WEEK 1 of 50 day challenge

    The plan is to set goals for each week, and check in with what I've done towards them each day. That will (hopefully!) avoid me becoming overwhelmed by trying to focus on everything at once... :o So here's the goals for this week...

    PHD
    * arrange meeting with examiner
    * decide agenda for meeting with examiner
    * put all participants in framework
    * list of relationships/connections/findings
    * plan what goes in each subheading

    CHRISTMAS
    * List of presents for everyone
    * budget - where is money coming from, and how much?
    * master list of presents to make
    * decide dates of holiday
    * list of what needs doing to car

    HEALTH
    * 5x 30 mins exercise
    * no buying cake/chocolate/biscuits

    How's that for a manageable weekly list? I've already made a start! :j :j But I'll update on that later - got to get back to PhD for a bit now :D
