    MOrning all,

Well, today I'm having a bit of a silly-sausage-like moment about working full time :o :rotfl: Do I really want to?? I did say for years that I didn't! So a bit of soul searching (and lots of talking it through) is required today.

First of all I've done a bit of fact finding over breakfast :D

    2 days a week = £11,593 salary = £789 monthly take home (what I get now)
    3 days a week = £17,389 salary = £1,089 monthly take home
    4 days a week = £23,186 salary = £1,363 monthly
    5 days a week = £28,983 salary = £1,638 monthly

So, let's make some assumptions. Let's assume my wages don't go up at all. Let's assume I keep my spending to my current levels (my current wages include enough to save for holidays etc and car maintenance and emergencies now I've paid the fees/Mr Daffs etc). And let's assume that since I'll be travelling one extra day a week, there'll be an extra £60 a month for travelling. That means:

    3 days a week = £240 extra a month = £2880 saved by end of year
    4 days a week = £514 extra a month = £6168 saved by end of year
    5 days a week = £789 extra a month = £9468 saved by end of year

Now - I *know* it won't be that exact (I get 7 weeks holiday for a start so that's 7 weeks I don't have any travel - probably enough to PAY for a couple of holidays! :rotfl:), but it's a rough figure we need now! I also know that I'll probably put a little more into the house, and I *might* even put some into the new underwear fund :D :rotfl:

Not entirely sure what I'm trying to achieve by figuring this all out! Knowledge is power I suppose :D And I also suppose that since they've messed up a little, I might just have the opportunity to suggest I could work 2 days and they get another person for 2? Or I could do 1 and they get another person for 3? Might not be how they want to do it (and I could always end up with nothing!) but I thought it would be best to figure out what I would actually choose if I could...

Knowledge is power, absolutely! This is great - and their slight mixup about wanting you to do *six* days, means they *have* to renegotiate - those are great figures. Keep on pondering, and you'll find what you want to do to go forward.

Definitely good to know where you stand with each option - I think it's great that you're not automatically jumping at full-time, just because it pays more, you obviously know how much your work-life balance matters to you. I'm sure you'll work out something great!

KC, I suppose the *sight* issue is that they may renegotiate me out of the equation altogether in favour of having one person who can do all four days :rotfl: But actually - I'd accept that as being fine :) Just thought since I was potentially in a position to negotiate, I should work out exactly what was best!

I'm no further on :D But I did ring up my Al Anon sponsor (see, I remembered this time :D) and I'm meeting her tomorrow to talk it through :) (and I know Pippi or someone will probably ask.. :rotfl: so a sponsor is someone who's been in Al Anon longer, who has been working through the 12 steps themselves, and who you ask to help you work through the steps in your own life. I've been notoriously bad at this :o But they're meant to be a person you can ring up to discuss more personal things, or to discuss things in more detail than you would in a meeting, and they'll help you work through it (although sadly they never *tell* you what to do, they make you decide for yourself! :rotfl:). Anyway, mine is lovely, and I'm meeting her tomorrow, so that might make things clearer!

Will also have a proper chat to Mr Daffs when he gets up - he was quite poorly yesterday, poor man, and strangely enough didn't seem very interested in talking about the finer points of my new contract :rotfl:

Bit scatty today, so I've done my 'to do' mind map (and coloured it in :D). I'm ticking things off there, but I'm thinking it's a day for a TA DA list on here, what do you think? So here goes:

    * finished filling in MG's contacts spreadsheet and sent
    * texted friend about dancing tomorrow evening
    * found readings for tonight's Al anon meeting (I'm chairing)

Er, that's it so far :o Best crack on!

Oopsie, yes, I didn't think of them negotiating you out of the way altogether :( hope you still get the choice of deciding what hours you want.

Good for you for contacting your sponsor! With anyone I've had anything to do with in a 12 step programme, the sponsor is one of the most important parts of the membership.

good news about the job offer, can't imagine that you would be negotiated completely out of the equation as they have said you're wonderful. Fingers crossed you work out what's best for you.

(Oh, and assuming the figures you've posted are for nett pay after Tax & NI, you're about £100 out on the 5 days one - you can change the "6" for a "7"! :D)

    Thanks :D

EH - just checked the salary calculator again - still says £1637.94 a month - this is after NI/tax, but also after 6% pension is taken off - and crucially (which might be the bit you missed out) it triggers my student loan repayments - of £104 a month... (I don't pay back til I earn over £15,000, and then pay something like 9% of whatever I earn over £15,000).

    still pondering :D
