Oh Daffs, sorry you're feeling glum. I wonder if it's to do with the season (I'm feeling the same). Or maybe it's a big old anti-climax! You're no longer a debt free wannabe - you're actually debt free! Wow! What a wonderfully delicious place to be. I wonder what that feels like?! Maybe you should treat yourself to a fantastically good book (I accidentally typed this as god book which made me laugh but is NOT what I meant!). Or are you like me and you deny yourself reading for pleasure whilst you're studying because you 'should' be reading something constructive?!
I'm having a massive old reflection about work, study, life, the universe, you know everything! I'm itching to know what your PHd is about. I'm on the cusp of something at the moment. I'm just not sure which direction to push in which is making me grumpy grumpy grumpy!
I'm guessing that you've lost your focus and drive now you've achieved your debt free goal. Take a moment to bask in your glories! Down some prosecco! Have a day off and then think about what is next. Dr Daffs perhaps?!Commercial Debt £14587.22 Student Debt £7747.73
Debt to family and friends £270/540 Total Debt £22604.95/22874.95 :embarasse0 -
Thanks Ruby
The debt free thing - think I posted this on someone else's thread, but this actually doesn't feel like my debt free date at all - felt like I had that a couple of years ago when I paid off credit cards/overdraft etc - now *that* felt good. I think because I didn't count either of these bits as 'debt' it doesn't feel like that much? Mr Daffs money is only because I took several months off work last year to get PhD finished and didn't make any house contribution - at the time he said not to bother paying it back, but he's not working much at the minute, and I'd rather give it back, so that felt like my choice, and there was certainly no set deadline. The fees aren't even due yet - not until I graduate (never at this rate!), I just wanted to get them out of the way before I got used to my new wages, so vowed I'd get both things paid off in the first 4 months of my job, which I did :T
So it's not a case of feeling like an anti climax really, just that I never felt like I was leading up towards anything in the first place! It hasn't been a huge struggle to pay them off - I've just been living pretty much off what the wages in my previous job were, then putting the extra I've earned in my new job towards both of these things. That\s why it'll be exciting to have all my wages! :rotfl:
I don't deny myself reading for pleasure - but I do tend to just read the same old things over and over again - like my brain can't deal with anything new! :rotfl: Don't really do buying books - far more of a library girl!
What are you on the cusp of? Sounds exciting! Have you written a pros and cons list?

As far as herbs go, the only ones I can guarantee that work for me are for upset stomach - mint, and chamomile. Even ordinary teabags that you buy in a health food shop are miraculous as far as I'm concerned. For balancing female hormones - I don't know, I'd think raspberry leaf tea would be good - its supposed to help. I just found a sweet little organic herb farm in Maine, with this article:

Daffs, it may not be an anticlimax, but it sounds .... kind of, I don't know, blank?

Now *thats* good to hear :T

I do the re-read thing! Endlessly - tho with decluttering, I'm re-reading, or reading for the first time, stuff I've had for years
What are you on the cusp of? Sounds exciting! Have you written a pros and cons list?
I agree - more please, Ruby! I like this "life audit" that so many of us seem to be doing.
Just off back to bed with a pancake - back later
You never came back :rotfl:Nice pancake tho :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
thats some tasty pancake!!
I wonder if it was a "pancake" of a different variety!! :rotfl: wink nudge... sorry.

<boggles at 'pancake of a different variety'> :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Actually it was two pancakes, then a bit of tidying, and a walk in the sunshine
Thanks for the herb info KC! I'm drinking more herbal tea in general since I'm trying to cut down on caffeine a bit - just half way through a chamomile nowHave got some raspberry leaf, I find it works for period pain - didn't realise it might help with hormones too! (pity it tastes vile :rotfl:)
Still haven't done squares!
Off up to the attic for a couple of hours of writing in a minuteWil do as I did yesterday, turn music on, INTERNET OFF, and not distract myself with thoughts of how sunny it is and how lovely it'd be to be outside :rotfl: Can go outside when I've done it, and it'll be far more satisfying! :j

Well, I did my two hours! :j :j :j And sooo nearly got to the end of the chapter :T :T Then stopped, had a cuppa, a chat to a friend up in Scotland, and half an hour of pottering in the garden
Feeling rather calm and cheery now :j :j
Just refilling the hot water bottle and then back off into the attic again (it's cold up there!). I'm planning another two solid hours, so that'll be the daylight gone when I come back down. But that's ok! Because I've had a nice long walk today, and a potter in the garden, and there is a window up there after all!
Ooh, I can't remember if I mentioned! Do you remember that photography course I was talking about possibly doing next month, the little £15 one? And the bigger £60 one I'll do next year? The other day I entered a blog giveaway to win a place on one of them! Winner announced tomorrow - there's 3 places on the big one, 1 place on the small, and 362 people entered..... So fingers crossed please, it'd be soooo exciting to win! :j :j :j
(haven't won anything since me and my sister won a bottle of gin in the school bingo when we were about 8 and 6And no, we weren't allowed to keep it! :rotfl:)

Thanks KC
Just emailed my chapter to supervisors
:j :j So feeling very chuffed with myself!
Learned a couple of lessons today:
* turning internet off while working is A GOOD IDEA!
Well, that's the main one:rotfl:
Oh, and getting on with things makes you feel better than worrying about them! :rotfl: Of course, I could have told you both of those before :rotfl:
So, now i'm stopping PhD for the day :T A bit of a pottering evening in store - some food, sorting something to wear to work tomorrow, making lunch (and some spare food for the train home - still avoiding buying chocolate and tomorrow is a Danger Day!), and I might THINK about doing something with some of those limes  Might save that for n the week though... don't think they'll go off yet.
Thanks for all your lovely support when I've been a complete grouchy misfit these past couple of weeksSlowly feeling better (thought I was fine today, but then realised it only took me about 10 seconds to fly off the handle at something that wouldn't usually bother me, so I'm evidently not quite there yet!
:rotfl:). Hopefully tomorrow at work will be productive and cheery, and then I've got a full week's run at PhD, so plenty of time to get stuck in :j Next chapter to finish and send in a couple of days, then moving on to a different bit, which will be a nice change! :T
So - best crack on with the evening - up before 6 tomorrow
Night you lovely lot

Thanks Happy :j
Just done a bit of finances sorting. Got all confused by Mr Daffs giving me some cash and asking me to transfer it to his bank account, but it covered more than I needed in cash for the month, so some of it has to carry over to next month, and so I got myself in a muddleSorted myself out now though with a little help from some envelopes :rotfl:
So - I've got £29 for this week, and £30 for next week - not too bad considering the *slight* muddle I got myself into with expenses etc earlier in the month! :rotfl: We're pretty well stocked for food at the minute, so shouldn't need a big shop of any kind. And given that I've now vowed not to buy any chocolate... :rotfl: However - need to save a couple of quid for the WI, and my mum's coming to visit on Sunday, and wants to go on the big wheel in town  so that's £5 I'll have to keep aside for that! All ok though, and when I'm paid at the end of this month, I can get on with saving for my cheery Christmas holidays! :j :j :j0
