That sounds good, Daffs- its so *empty* just to buy sugary stuff, isn't it .... the other "unnecessaries" sound much nicer. I like the idea of a tenner a week and putting the other £25 into a monthly pot...

Well, what I was thinking was...

I've got some friends from another forum meeting up to support some friends at a marathon about 80 miles away. They're from all around the country, some of them I haven't seen for *years*, and I'd really love to meet up with them. I was going to say no because of the cost of driving down there for a day... but I think I'll put £10 towards that, (there's spare in the monthly diesel budget which will cover any extra), take a packed lunch, and any drinks can come from the weekly unnecessary £10.

The other £15... well, I've been hankering for a while after doing a particular online photography/journaling/inspirational/cheery course that runs a few times a year, but it's £60, and I haven't been able to justify either the time or the money yet (it's on my list for after Christmas! :j :j). However, I noticed today that the woman is running a miniature little one week online dip-in-and-out course about 'whispering your secret desires to the universe' (among other things!) :D It's at the beginning of November, and costs £15... So that might just be the other £15 :j :j

Partly feels ludicrously frivolous, entirely unnecessary, and I should probably spend the money on less holey underwear, but I guess that's the definition of 'unnecessary'! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyway, a little mini victory today - popped to the shops and DIDN'T buy anything to munch on! :T So that IS going to be my STOP thing, and I've started already! :T I also bought some nuts and seeds etc to take with me tomorrow - I'm off to Manchester for w*rk, and I'll get lunch, but nothing else, so I thought I'd plan in advance to avoid tripping myself up! :T

Mate rung to say he IS coming dancing, so best go and get me polka dot skirt on! :T

Feeling rather positive now - no mean feat after a day of hardly writing anything! :o I think my secret desires for the universe need not to focus on 'I need to get this phd done' but rather on 'help me have the courage to persist when I feel like I can't' or something....

Right - less introspection, more dancing I say! :T

Thats really interesting, isn't it - "I need to get this PhD done *sounds* positive, but you can hear that its coming from frustration .... so it acts as a negative, I'm guessing ....

enjoy dancing in your polka dots!

Hey my lovelies, just a quick heads up and it is not a good one I'm afraid, I have just been to Tesco and some of the prices have gone up quite a bit, literally over night.

And the dreaded price hike in flour has appeared this morning, bread flour has gone up from 50p to £1.29, plain flour and SF flour have both gone up from 42p to 59p!! So that means bread is going to go up very soon!!!!..

Sorry for the hijeack, I was just so shocked I couldn't believe it, I only checked prices on line last night

Thanks for the tip off - MySupermarket show Asda white bread flour as still at 50p - just away now to stock up!

    Afternoon all

Rather a wobble here today :o Still grumpy and snappy and tearful and on the edge of losing the plot a little... :o But, as they say, when you get to the end of your tether, tie and knot in it and hang on, so that's just what I've done. I'm not going to do (another!) moan about all the things that are overwhelming me as I don't think that'll make me feel any better! So instead I'm going to list my Reasons to be Cheerful this afternoon :D

    * the sun is shining
    * I'm up in the attic, about to embark on a little crafty project :j :j
    * Mr Daffs just made us the nicest home made bread and home made soup for lunch :T
    * had a lovely time at the WI this morning with a friend I haven't seen for ages, a friend I see all the time, and lots of chocolate testing! :j
    * I've got a horrid twingy stomach ache (I know that doesn't *sound* very cheerful, but I'm hoping it's the beginning of the end of this weeks long pre-menstrual phase I've been going through :rotfl:)
    * my friend (whose daughter is my goddaughter) is coming to visit next week (must make something for her birthday!)
    * my mum's coming to visit next weekend, and we're going on the big wheel thing in town :T
    * the weekend after that we're off to visit some friends - at the seaside! :j :j :j :j

And if they aren't all reasons to be cheerful then I don't know what is! :j

Going ot crack on with my little crafty project for a bit now, and ignore the fact that my computer cable - which seemed to be working fine downstairs, now doesn't work in any of the plugs in the attic (which all work fine for other things) Hopefully Mr Daffs will be able to sort it out when he wakes from his nap....
