Sorry to hear that Ames - we used to be ready meal [STRIKE]freaks[/STRIKE] fans, chippie, chinese/indian, pizza - used microwave more than anything - have you heard of 'chicken ping'? We had that a lot - chicken curry & rice, sweet & sour chicken, into the microwave, ping, it's ready!!! But now, I cook everything from scratch, done away with the canned foods cupboard. The only 'processed foods' we eat are quorn products, mullerl*ight yoghurts.
Having said all that I have arthritis in my hands, neck, shoulders, hips, knees & feet which affects my mobility and I do struggle with cooking. I also suffer from depression and anxiety attacks, so motivation is my biggest problem. I have found that losing weight, even the first stone, has had a great positive effect on my mobility and in how I feel about me and the world.
So yes I cook a lot but I do use fozen veg 'cause I have difficulty chopping it all up, I used to have prepared salads but I now buy loose and roughly chop everything up, I do chop my fruit up but you can use berries, and eat apples, pears, etc. There are so many food that you can eat freely that, by filling up with them, you don't get the cravings too much, and when you do,you are allowed a little bit of what you fancy every day
As for exercise - on my better days I used to walk the dogs once a day for about 25 mins (hubbie does all the others) but at the moment my balance is not good and I get no exercise at all. This makes losing weight more difficult, but not impossible and if you could just get started, and see and feel a difference, it would give you the encouragement to keep going.
I would say that you would have to focus on the possible benefits of losing weight, and I don't mean being able to find clothes that fit though that is great - it's the effect on your body and mind - with weight loss you start to feel better as the pressure is taken off your joints and you gain confidence which helps with depression and mood swings. It's not a miracle cure but it's the next best thing and beats doing nothing about it.
Hope this does not sound like a lecture and apologies to anyone not interested in dieting, but what I a trying to say is - it's a long hard road but it's got to be worth it for the benefits it can bring
Feel free to PM me if you want
Wow 3 Dogs you must have read my mind (I have just had a huge moan over on the NSD thread about my weight. I am def a yoyo dieter and you name it I've tried it. I think having the odd tipple is my downfall and I have cut down on the sweet and crisps. Tomorrow is my big day to start and really mean it!!
