Thanks 3Dogs, I need to lose about 7 or 8 stone.
Is there a lot of cooking involved in SW? I've got ME and really struggle with a lot of cooking because of pain in my hands and wrists. I've got bipolar too so have a huge problem with comfort eating when I'm down. I think motivation is my biggest problem, I do want to lose weight but I always seem to have bigger problems to concentrate on first.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -

Sorry to hear that Ames - we used to be ready meal [STRIKE]freaks[/STRIKE] fans, chippie, chinese/indian, pizza - used microwave more than anything - have you heard of 'chicken ping'? We had that a lot - chicken curry & rice, sweet & sour chicken, into the microwave, ping, it's ready!!! But now, I cook everything from scratch, done away with the canned foods cupboard. The only 'processed foods' we eat are quorn products, mullerl*ight yoghurts.
Having said all that I have arthritis in my hands, neck, shoulders, hips, knees & feet which affects my mobility and I do struggle with cooking. I also suffer from depression and anxiety attacks, so motivation is my biggest problem. I have found that losing weight, even the first stone, has had a great positive effect on my mobility and in how I feel about me and the world.
So yes I cook a lot but I do use fozen veg 'cause I have difficulty chopping it all up, I used to have prepared salads but I now buy loose and roughly chop everything up, I do chop my fruit up but you can use berries, and eat apples, pears, etc. There are so many food that you can eat freely that, by filling up with them, you don't get the cravings too much, and when you do,you are allowed a little bit of what you fancy every day
As for exercise - on my better days I used to walk the dogs once a day for about 25 mins (hubbie does all the others) but at the moment my balance is not good and I get no exercise at all. This makes losing weight more difficult, but not impossible and if you could just get started, and see and feel a difference, it would give you the encouragement to keep going.
I would say that you would have to focus on the possible benefits of losing weight, and I don't mean being able to find clothes that fit though that is great - it's the effect on your body and mind - with weight loss you start to feel better as the pressure is taken off your joints and you gain confidence which helps with depression and mood swings. It's not a miracle cure but it's the next best thing and beats doing nothing about it.
Hope this does not sound like a lecture and apologies to anyone not interested in dieting, but what I a trying to say is - it's a long hard road but it's got to be worth it for the benefits it can bring
Feel free to PM me if you wantMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Thanks 3Dogs.
I have been making some little changes. I've started learning drums to try and build up my joints and muscles, and improve my co-ordination. I've just bought a little pedal exerciser, I used it the other day and felt good but overdid it and felt crap the next day. I've been eating better this week, a piece of salmon that I just chuck in the oven, and a low fat cous cous snack pot thing to go with it, and then berries for fruit. I've got a freezer full of meat and fish, so I'm going to try and carry on with that for meals. It's just the snacking that I need to get my head around!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Do you like yoghurt Ames? 'Cause MullerL*ght Yoghurts are classed as free food on SW and we eat a lot of them. We have them on our cereal in the morning and have them as they are or as ice cream (just frozen in freezer in their pots and then left to thaw a bit) so if we are hungry we have a mullerl*ght or an apple or for something sweet, hubbie has a few Snack a Ja*k Jumbos through the day. As a special treat we have an occassional Sk*nny Cow Triple Choc Ice Cream lolly (gorgeous and only 90 cals). There are plenty of healthier options around now, if you check the labels
But well done you for making the changes you mentioned - keep it up, make sure that you eat enough (sounds silly but eat more of the right things is the SW byword) and let us all know how you are getting on - we will all give you encouragement along the wayMr 3Dogs 3-7-12

Thanks for that, I *love* yoghurts, I've got the asda bio ones in right now. Is it just the mullerlight ones or are other brands free too? I'll have a look round at healthier options, but at least to start with I daren't have too much in, or I'll just gorge on it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

No, it's not just the mullers, it's weight watchers, shape 'feel fuller longer', any really that say fat free, very low fat. I don't know about the Adsa one's but I will check them out. Lots of them say 'low fat' but when you check the label they are high in calores - I think any 100 cals per 100 gms or ess would be OK
What do you drink - do you drink water (8 glasses a day) as this is important to flush everything through and replace water in your system - I drink VERY weak black tea, hot water, filtered cold water, 'no sugar added' squashes (all free on SW), and the very occassional diet coke/pepsi MaxMr 3Dogs 3-7-12
