oh, my favourite thread!!!!!
now i said i probably wouldn't look at it as i am now expecting my first, but just couldn't resist!!!
wonder if any ladies will be along with more helpful secrets????0 -
You really DO pee yourself laughing... :rotfl:
Also they don't tell you it can take up to 8 weeks for breastfeeding to become 'established' and they dont tell you to stick at it then wonder why you are finding it hard after a month!
oh, and childbirth is SUPPOSED to hurt a bit! and I would rather that than the painful hips I have at the moment. Rather a few hours of pain resulting in a baby at the end of it than my current state of being stuck at home cos im in too much pain to walk anywhere.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Maybe not in all cases, but in mine - There's absolutely no point writing a birth plan! In my first two pregnancies I wanted the baby delivered straight to me. Baby one was born asleep as pethadine hadn't worn off; baby was taken away. Baby two was born blue and freezing cold; baby taken away into an incubator to warm up. Pregnancy number three, much to the midwife's annoyance I refused to write any kind of birth plan. Baby three born by emergency caesarian after being rushed to hospital during a routine monitoring; after birth baby was fine (but it had been touch and go) but I couldn't hold him as I was under anaesthetic and no-one else could get to the hospital in time. Baby number three spent his first hour with a midwife.
Moral of the story, in my case, expect the unexpected and don't expect it to all go to plan.
And I've given up having babies - quit while you're ahead, I say!
Second thing I would say. just because you've breastfed successfully before doesn't make you good at it. Babies 1 and 2 fed fine and I wondered what all the fuss was about. Baby number 3 has made things difficult - 7 months later, I still don't think it's easy but we're persevering despite the biting, kicking and pinching, ouch!0 -
Ahh i remember loads of these things happening to me during labour, but most definately the worst is having a poo
. I remember being totally embarassed with labour number 1 but lets face it, you're in so much pain at the end that it doesnt matter if the cleaner passing by, delivers your baby!
So by labour number 3, i definately left my embarrassment at the door, or so i thought! I decided that being on all fours would be a nice change to my previous "on my back, legs akimbo" positions only to be mortified as my body decided that it would be a laugh to make me go several shades of red, and i'm dark skinned!!:D
Luckily the midwife acted with so much speed that it wasnt all bad but dearie me i couldnt look her in the eyes afterwards:rotfl:

i have not laughed so much in my life!!! thanks for that and its soooo true!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
pethadine oh no had an outer body experience and hated it, gas and air is good as it puts you to somewhere strange and you dont care how much it hurts! but keep taking it and dont stop lol!!!:p
afterpains are probably worse than labour IMO, after DS (no4) couldnt sit down felt as though someone had kicked me up the a**e
you think thats it and you get the bleeding where your scared to cough and a few days later the boob fairy appears and you wonder where the hell these huge boobs appeared from!! and why you cant move your arms!
all that and am on baby no 5 so really it cant be all that bad!!!:TWhat's for you won't go past you0 -
No one tells you that the words 'third degree tear' make your hubby grimace more than you even though YOU are the one who had to endure it!
Gave birth to DS1 pain relief free only to need an epidural afterwards, and freezing cold and shivering naked in an operating theatre (yes they didnt even cover me up) I heard someone say 'ooh is she cold?' clever so and so's.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

It has probably been mentioned somewhere in this very long thread but I would have to add that if you have a c section, the scar never really stops itching.Loving the dtd thread. x0

Can I just add to this. Having never had any surgey before I didn't realise I wouldn't be able to feel my stomach afterwards as they cut through all the nerve endings. I asked my midwife and she says some people never regain the feeling. nearly seven months later I still have several numb patches - very odd feeling!0 -
This is the best read in ages! Am expecting no 2 in Nov and had kinda forgotten some of the "experiences" but this has brought it all flooding back! No going back now though.
I wish someone had told me just how much fluid your "waters" consist of! Was induced so a student midwife "broke" them and I remember laying there thinking there was no way that funny little mat thing was going to absorb it all! Funnily enough, the day before there had been those floods up in Carlisle (DD born Jan 2005) and I kept mentioning the fact that I was competing with them, god knows what the other 3 mums to be on the ward must have thought about me!
Hearing someone in labour a few beds down screaming whilst I was in early labour and thinking " I don't want to go down there" sounded like she was being tortured!
Having stitches was more painful than birth itself! The Doc (male) doing them was french and seemed to take delight in my oww oww owwwws getting louder!
Oh and some of those other stories about wind made me chuckle, I remember not wanting to fall asleep on the ward as I was convinced I wouldn't be able to control it and it would be like a hurricane!Proud mum to Matthew born 23/11/08 7lb 13ozand Rosie 12/01/05 7lb 9oz0 -
I was very apologetic during labour. Always saying sorry for everything. OH thought it was hilarious. Got to the point where I just weed everywhere. All I could say was sorry this and sorry that.
And the only other thing I worried about was my hair. Yes my hair. It always seemed to be in the way and dad's job was to constantly pull it out of the way so it didn't irritate me.
See...those dad's do have their uses. Mind you, once the toad popped out I was abandoned.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0
