OMG this thread has made me roar with laughter!
Lessons learned - DD1 (22 years ago) that midwives can mix your notes up with someone else and think you are only 2 cm dilated when you are ready to push. That you will plead with your husband to please not let you die.
DS (12 years ago) that after hanging upside down in a car trying to retrieve a glasses lens will leave you permanently wondering if you caused the extended breach that led to an emergency caeserean, that you can feel the surgeon rummaging around inside, that finding you have a son when the surgeon shouts "that's the biggest pair of balls I have ever seen" is quite a shock. That you should have learned what an !!!!!! your exhusband (then DH) was when he watched the whole procedure and informed you that you still had your appendix.
DD2 (5 years ago) that some midwives should be given medals, that given the right training they can solve major problems with simple manoeuvres, that you will punch the man you love when he does not deliver the gas and air fast enough, and that you can get up on your feet and walk back to the ward within 30 mins of giving birth.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Hi folks,
hate to tell you this ,but the best kept secret is that it is possible to enjoy giving birth, and dare i say it, and feel so great you think you could run a marathon afterwards, and that as you you at your one hour old baby its possible to think "i wish i could do all that again tomorrow !" mind you I must add that It did take me 15 years to recover after DS 1 before having DS 2 (but thats another story !)0 -

Love this thread, have just sat here wiping my eyes and trying not to wet myself! :rotfl:
No-one told me about SPD until I was on crutches from 21 weeks, then everybody suddenly knew all about it and said that I probably shouldn't have done the Race for Life.....
Also, after forceps delivery, strapped up in some odd contraption due to said SPD, I was poking at my legs asking if they were mine. I was reassured by everyone that they were indeed my legs, but I argued that I could feel mine lying on the table!
11 months on still getting pains, did NOT do the Race for Life this year.
Please keep the stories coming!0 -
Not really pregnancy related but when I was breastfeeding dd dh's best friend, sitting on a chair next to me, started making comments - I took baby off, aimed and got him square in the face. He didn't say another word for hours (very gobby scouser). His wife still laughs over it 24 years later telling ne it's the only time she's seen him lost for words.
BTW no-one ever tells you how sweet breast milk is, much sweeter than formula.0 -

LOL - I had SPD as well. 2nd time around I was on crutches and wearing the most godawful corset device to hold me together - lol.
6 years on found out that I still cannot play in the playround with the kids - tried the sliding thing on a rope and 'crack' - ouchee!!!!!
Also found out AFTERWARDS with DS1 that I had a major disorder thing going on with my liver - Obstetric cholestasis . I had the worst itching all over my body from about 6 months on- mainly my legs - I scratched until I bled and GP just kept prescribing anti-itch stuff - never sent me for a liver test and then afterwards found out that DS1 could have been caused to be stillborn due to this!!!!
Births went fine although they had some problems with the heartbeats so I spent both labours strapped to the bed with monitors all over me. Tens machine also drove me round the bend so I threw it at my then OH!!! Gas and Air is just sooo much fun - wish I had some now!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere

Does everyone taste their own breast milk and then feel really guilty for doing it????
I remember the milkman came late one morning and I was gasping for a cuppa so poured in a swig from some I'd expressed earlier - LOLNoli nothis permittere te terere

So much for the "It'll sort itself out by a year", then! As for the corset thing, it took all the skin off my hips!
Everyone keeps asking if we'll have another one, but I really don't think I can run the risk of chasing a toddler around while I'm the size of a whale, on crutches. :rotfl:0
