Morning all,
Just a quick post while I eat my brekkie...I will be back later for a read through, and post an update
Weather wasn't too good in Devon so we came back early, intended staying another week but decided to come home and get started on things here ...

Thanks for posting about the Yellow Duck project, Anakat; I love the idea behind it and will have a go at the crochet version.
Chalky - yes it is a bit sad about the holiday home being sold but, as DH says, nothing stays still, does it? It's a lovely house and a family with young children have bought it; it is perfect for a family, so it will be well loved, I am sure. I shall be thinking about William today, and keeping my fingers crossed for his x-ray.
Well, I will be having a slow day today, after visiting friends yesterday and sinking a fair amount of wine. It was a lovely afternoon but I don't feel like doing a great deal today. I'm just glad it's Sunday!
Well, late as it already is this morning, I ought to get breakfast sorted!
Have a great day, everyone.

Morning all, hope today finds you all well.
Had a lie in after a busy day yesterday. Little J had a birthday party in the morning at a playbarn and guess what- it's just outside the village with the craft shop I get my knitting in lace. Of course I had to go with him and DD, in case she got lost.;)
Bought some more lace and a few suncatcher/ Christmas tree decs recommended by Roamin. Little J will be able to paint them for his nursery teachers, providing I don't forget where I put them. Just thought, maybe should put them in with the Christmas cards.
Sorry for using the 'C'word early in the year, but I like to buy things when I see them / have the pennies for them, and yesterday both coincided :T
Later on we had the get together for sil's birthday. He got quite a shock when he came in and saw most of the family there,he thought he was going out for a curry with DD,then going for a few drinks.
Woolly-wise nothing major to report. Several ongoing projects, one might be finished for this weeks update, but then again maybe not.
Off to tidy up a bit, there's so much stuff lying around I can hardly see the carpet.

:hello:
Don't know if you have seen this?

Seems like a good ideaHere is my first duck.
Hello ladies,
I've been lurking for a very long time, but this was something that is very close to my heart so I'm creeping out of the shadows!
Thanks for posting this, Anakat. I read about this project with interest. It's not just about making cute little ducks and leaving them somewhere for someone to find and enjoy, even though this is a lovely thing to do.
It's also about raising awareness of blood, organ and tissue donation. I myself suffer from a rare and incurable liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. It is thought to be an autoimmune disease (like, for instance Multiple sclerosis or rheumatoid arthritis) and is not caused by lifestyle choices. I say this because most people hear the words liver disease and immediately think "alcohol abuse"! Anyway, I am fortunate that it does not affect me too badly at the moment. Many sufferers go on to need a liver transplant, and there are not enough livers to go around, especially as there is so much "lifestyle choice" liver disease around these days.
So I would urge you all, if you have not already done so, to join the organ donor register, and, just as importantly, let your loved ones know your wishes. Just go to https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/how_to_become_a_donor/registration/consent.asp
You never know when you, or someone you know or love, will need an organ or tissue donation.
By all means make some little ducks too. I even have a pattern for a duck hand puppet on my blog that you could try if you wish! http://puppetystuff.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/knitting-pattern-for-duck-puppet.html
Best wishes to you all. Thanks for reading to here!

Forgot this bit regarding the ducks....
I had a look on the map of this newly launched project, and of about 20 reports WORLDWIDE of ducks found, one of them was in the village where I live! How spooky is that?? http://thelittleyellowduckproject.org/world-map/0 -
One of them was in the library near where I worked before retiring!Clearing the junk to travel light

I am so interested to see this news. I have already started a duck but wish it was linked with a greater prospect of raising money/ awareness.
I have become very aware of the strength of viral media lately.
To post one picture without make up ..... An every day occurrence for me raised millions.
And over the last few days a young lad has raised over 2 million for young cancer sufferes.
Now, my point is I use a pay as you go phone system. Very cheaply through Tesco I might add. But if the texting for charity is added to the appeal I always do it.... I am always in credit so it almost feels like the mega giant Tesco is doing some good. So wouldn't it be good if every duck had a text facility added to it. Raising awareness and fundsTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
It's mostly about raising awareness, Chalky. Money can't buy organs (although sadly in some countries, it can!). Did you know that Spain is a world leader in this area - there are special teams of coordinators in hospitals to talk to bereaved relatives about this. Also, in Spain I believe everyone is opted in automatically, whereas here in UK it's the other way around, you have to specifically say you want your organs to be donated.
So it's a lot about sharing to raise awareness, and as you say, social media is a powerful tool to achieve this.
Sorry for hijacking this thread for something rather off-topic. However giving an organ that you no longer need to someone you don't know and will never meet is the ultimate random act of kindness, is it not?0 -
No worries Janet. We all love to know about these good causes and that certainly is one.
William I'm his cast for another 3 weeks!Try and do a good deed every day.0
