Hi everyone - up early because brain is on overtime these days!

Thanks for all the kind comments about my necklace.

Elaine - good luck with tending the patient. He sounds like my DS2 who hates being out of action! I think your idea of Chalky printing off the emails she receives from her adventuring daughter is brilliant - by the end of the whole year, it would make an exciting read and be something they could all look back on.

    Chalky - thinking of you.

ISOM - hope your mum can come home today, and that she feels a lot better.

Mrs Twins - all the blankets are really fantastic. You've done the squares, and those who made them, proud.

Maytaurus - hope you are OK.

Well, I've been trying to get organised for our trip away as well as helping DH with work on the house. He's not doing any more major stuff now until we come back, so he's been pottering. You may remember that the local commune have widened and resurfaced the roads around the hamlet, mainly for access to the emergency vehicles. They started it a few months ago and, at the same time, we had to have new water points put in, so they were done at the same time as the resurfacing. The work included taking away some of our land to widen the road, then they had to move and replace the fence alongside the new road. Well, they move so slowly here that the fence posts (but nothing in between them) finally went up about four weeks ago. The workers turned up yesterday afternoon to dig up some more of our land to widen another bit of road (right outside the front of our house); it meant they had to ask us what to do with the two huge bags full of sand and gravel that we keep there while we're using it on the house. They hadn't warned us they were coming so, if they had turned up while we were away, they wouldn't have been able to get on with that section of the work because we wouldn't have been here to ask about the bags (IYSWIM). They turned up with two big vehicles - a digger and something else major. They would have had to take them back to the depot and wait until we got back - there has been no real planning about any of this work. The work has been in the planning stage for over a year. I remember when they marked the road out ready for it in April, I asked the local Maire when it would be started - his slow unhurried reply was 'when the sun shines'! Honestly, they are so laid back here. Anyway, on the plus side, DH asked the men if we could have the soil from the area they dug up (we have a fair bit of landscaping to do - another job on the list!), they brought loads of it round and dropped it in place, and said they will come and spread it around for us later today, so that's a real bonus. We had to force a tip on them - the people we have met here will do things like that without expecting a reward, but we don't expect it for nothing. There is also a big lump of granite outside that will make a lovely garden seat, so they will bring that round for us, too. The work will definitely make the hamlet look a lot better when it's all finished, but heaven knows when that will be! They start work at about 9am, stop for that immovable feast - the French lunch hour - from 12 until 2pm, then work until about 4.30 pm; half the time is spent talking to people because everyone knows everyone else here, so it's a very slow process, especially as all the neighbours try and get them to do something for them while they are there with their digger! Anyway, the negotiating is a great way of improving our French!

All the children are back at school here now, after their long - at least ten week - break, so things are getting back to normal, and I can hear people chainsawing their logs ready for the winter. The days have been wonderful this week, really sunny and hot, but the early mornings and late evenings are a bit cooler, so it's a sign that autumn and winter are on the way. I see from the news that the UK is enjoying good weather, so I hope that continues for a while.

Anyway, I've waffled on a bit here, so I will go and get the kettle on again.

Hope you all have a good day.

  • It's wrist warmers on the knitting machine today, may also get a couple of hedgies done but need to get some serious clearing up done too, WHY ?? Not in the mood for much of that lark but as the weekend looms fast on the horizone I had better make the effort. Elaine, so pleased DS is home for some proper TLC - try and keep a calm exterior - yep I know it will be hard but don't bite your tongue off in the process, give him a couple of weeks and he will be back to whatever passes for "normal".
Sun shining today, so I shall get the twirlie loaded up with washing, then I believe a cake is in the offing, so shall go see what "kind" would be appreciated. You all have a great day and smashing weather too.

Be gentle to yourself, it takes a while to get back into the swing of things. Wristwarmers going really well I have 4 pairs now, so shall stop and do some sewing up Ye all take care

  • Hi there
Mum home and happy to be home. Had to wait from 8.30-3.30 for them to sort meds which was ridiculous, esp as we had most of them here! Meds have been changed and shes more herself so am happy with that; Kinsey I just wanted her to be treated properly - ie not discharged without antibiotics to treat chest and urine infections! Not too much to ask you would think, esp as she has fits when she overheats and just had pneumonia!! Went home via violin shope and now have new bow and strings so onwards I go-do make a huge difference to the sound but still struggle wth timings! Did get some cat blanket done while waiting so that good. Just doing a circular one!

Hello ladies - what a hectic few days

Mrs m - lovely to see you back with us - hope you are ok xxxx

roamin - Yes you are right there has been a real nip in the air early and late here too but the days have been quite warm - what is going on??? - there was fog here this morning and this being the first morning for a few weeks that DH has had to get up extra early for work he was surprised how dark it was (so was I he woke me up ) - its really lovely to see you back with us and do enjoy reading your posts xxxx

kathy - oh kathy the necklace was really lovely you are very clever xxx
How long is your trip? I bet you are counting down the seconds xxxx

isom - what resolutions (tee hee!) - glad that Mum is home and sounds as if she is on the mend this time - fingers crossed - am sorry have not put your blanket in post (smack on wrist!) will get done in next few days xxx

My wool came from Kemps (I think I said) so have started the vest - although not much done as had major catastrophe with bank - they have messed up good and proper - 5 weeks ago I opened up a second account with them - never received paperwork or cards etc - kept telling them - they found out last week its been sent to a very old address as "for some reason your husbands details have not been updated" grrrrrrrr funny how he has been receiving things here though - anyway its supposed to be sorted only for me to go and try and pay my council tax the other day over the phone with my card to be told your card has been stopped - the "beep beep beep": person who was dealing with my other lost items cancelled our current account as well !!!!!!!! so we have no easy access to our money, no debit cards etc - shall we just say mad is an understatement .,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, - have to wait upto 10 days for our cards :mad: - its not so much that they did it - its the responses you get from them - they dont help the situation with what they say to you.

Anyway Im trying to forget that one and have been doing a hardy clean up this morning - have "one of my headaches" brewing so had better go and eat and have a tablet

Love and hugs to all especially those poorlie or low Jaqui xxx
PS I had a lovely surprise today in post - my old neighbour sent me some beautiful wool (Poundstretcher) self patterning - as a bit of a late birthday present - Ive had more wool in the last few weeks than I have in a long time - I dare not update my meter over on LH as fast as I knit one ball - I seem to gain three :rotfl::rotfl::p:rotfl::rotfl:

  • ISOM - lovely to see you have your mum back home again, hope the change of meds is going to work out perfectly
F1- I thought it had got dark because its nearly time for the clocks to change....my body certainly wants to lie in bed longer but it will have to wait a bit yet
I awoke this morning with my right eye closed and not willing to open more than half way even now...DH has maintained he didn't PUNCH me in the night, both eyes are a bit red rimmed (for no real reason either), this happened a couple of years ago and the quack said it was mozzie bites. So I am sitting with a whacking great eye patch...just wish it was Johnny Depp being the pirate not me. Its difficult to judge distance from the computer in order to type properly, but I will manage, no driving to do today so that's one worry out of the way. I have bathed it and slapped a cool pack onto it. Can't take antihistamines, so will see how it goes, during the rest of the afternoon - which I have to say is brilliantly sunny. DH has gone off on some sort of shopping mission....SECRETE he says, no doubt I will find out later what he has bought!
Off to do a bit a knitting, nothing too difficult (as if I ever would). Hope you are all having a lovely weekend Mioliere not too many sleeps left now, bet you're really excited!

Hi everyone. Late on here today - we met up with friends for coffee this morning then finally got round to visiting the local farm that is run by a lovely English couple who farm their own pigs and sell the results. We didn't buy too much this time because, due to the frequent power cuts we get here, I can't risk stocking up the freezer in case we have a power cut while we are away. We bought some sausage rolls, deep dish pork pies, some bacon and, oh how I have longed for these, some Cumberland sausages! We decided to try a sausage roll and half a pork pie each for lunch - and they were superb - and will have the sausages tomorrow, and the bacon on Monday, just so it all gets eaten before we go away! The pigs are Gloucester Old Spot and they live very happy lazy lives lounging around completely stress-free on the lovely farm. The farm sells loads of different things which I will be trying as soon as we get back and, wonder of wonders, their prices are on a par with the local butchers and cheaper than the supermarket, so they will be a regular part of my shopping from now own. They've been running for about a year and have built up a good following of French and Brits, and will soon be supplying produce from other local producers - goats cheese, wine and so on, and they hope to open a cafe soon, so they are a brilliant find.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Maytaurus - hope you are as well as can be.

Chalky - hope you are coping.

Pippa and ISOM - (((hugs))) to the Mums.

Jean - do you ever stop and breathe? I hope DH is shopping for a lovely surprise for you! PLEASE don't leave your eye too long before seeing the doctor if it doesn't look as if it is getting better.

Mrs Moneypenney - good to hear from you. I think we all go through phases when we just can't seem to settle to any one thing. I expect you're just getting used to the school holidays being over!

Well, woolly-wise I've parcelled up some preemie things for Lou and one cat blanket for ISOM. I would like to have got more cat blankets done but I just don't have the time, so I will get this one posted, probably from the UK seeing as we'll be there soon! ISOM - I'll try and get some more done once we've returned. For the long drive and boat trip next week, I have sorted out some wool for IS hats, and I've started a blanket just to use up some other scraps of wool. I've tried to make my stash look small so that I can justify the HUGE shopping spree I'm planning on in the UK!

Well, we only have three more sleeps now until THE day so I'm suddenly panicking that we won't be ready in time. I want to take some fresh photos of the house and garden to show everyone back home, but I need to mow the lawn first!

Tomorrow morning I am off to the holiday home to get it ready for the next guests who arrive while we're away, so that will be the morning taken care of, then I shall start packing for our trip back.

    Have a good afternoon everyone.

  • oo how exciting miol!! Just three more sleeps!! Bet you are nearly so excited that you could pee your pants!
Pleased to report a lovely, relaxed and mishap free day! Dropped mum at allotment (eviction notice received this am!) and then popped to see friend at knitting shop so had natter, coffee and lunch and then picked mum up and went for heavenly massage! To thank me for looking after her weve booked in a triple treatment at start of Oct - massage, facial and reflexology so Ill be dribbling and snoring through that one! Bliss! Then popped to John lewis to get some wool for friends baby blanket. The girl I do violin with is having a baby so were very excited as they really are a lovely couple; so loving and caring and sarah and I have a laugh with our violin lessons! So mum and I are starting welcome to the world projects! Had to laugh at mum though as she is always saying to me when I shop; do you really need that?? Well today she went mad; three knitting books; toothbrush; babedas and the bill came to 200+. Got back to the car and said that cant be right so looked at the bill and she got a toothbrush for 195!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which will go back but had a laugh...Id have hyperventilated at a bill like that! So we did have a giggle! Mad woman is being transferred to friends car at reading services and she will be there for a week so I can relax a bit!
F1 how annoying! oops saying I have a virus so need to check!
