  • Hello everybody

I have been awol for ages and ages - but did not forget you - had a spell inhospital which didnt help - but I am still here lurking and trying to do some square - I have however forgotten the sizes so have several half finished!!!!
I was looking for the details but couldnt find the right link - could somebody be so kind as to tell me?
is Mrs Twins squares 6inch and Chalky 8 inch? and both double knitting? and it doesnt matter what colour?

I will at some point do other things but I have far too many odd balls so I am going to crochet some granny square to use it up.

hope you are all well and happy

Hello to all you lovely lot
We are staying with a friend in Hemel Hempstead so can only just pop in but hope things are Ok with you all xxx to all with troubles and lots to cope with

Thank you so much for all the supportive comments-- it really does mean a lot . Well a very condensed version --- tears , tears and a few more silent tears very much into my pillow. Of course, all I am sure, unnecessary but in the deep of the night I kept thinking about her and her very evident broken heart ( old boyfriend made repeated appearances during the last few days!!!) And I just thought of all the problems, with being in foreign countries, and girls alone, and girls who are lively and the problems that might bring. I shall feel happier when they are settled in Australia. Dubai,Bangkok,The Islands in Phuket,Bali, Singapore, a month in all, before they arrive in Melbourne.
So this morning we were up at 4.00 and Heathrow airport soon afterwards. To be honest when they walked through departures it was as if a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Poor Doh did not feel the same. And after the last few nights with very little sleep I went back to bed this afternoon with her scarf still smelling of coconut and slept like a baby for 2 hours!!!
So again thank you for just being here over the past few weeks!!

Hooking update soon but love to one and all xx
Try and do a good deed every day.

chalky - oh you poor love - I had a tear just reading your post - I cant begin to know how you feel - its bad enough when young man goes to his nan's 60miles away for a few days - all I can say is we are here for you as you have been for us for a few virtual moans and tears and hugs and whatever else you need, whenever you need it xxxxxxxxxxxxx
(oh and just in case DH feels left out he can have xx as well!)

toottifrooti - glad to have you back - sorry to hear you have been in hospital - is everything ok now? hope it is - with regards to your squares - I think im right in saying chalky has stopped the collection of squares (bless her she has had many other things to contend with) and all the made up blankets have been sent to Loving Hands for them to send off to very good causes - but Mrs Twins is still collecting - 6" plain or patterned - crocheted or knitted - she does have some themes going on - a few mini challenges - her website is www.sunshineinternationalblanketsoflove.blogspot.c om
and shows all the wonderful blankets she has made as well as down the right hand side squares for her mini challenges

Again I hope im not speaking out of turn but as far as I know she wont mind any that you have not just the challenge colours

If you have any that are not 6" Im sure Loving Hands would take them off your hands to be converted into something or there is "Knit a Square" and off hand I cant find their website (im down to get emails from them but Ill be blowed if I can find their details!:rotfl:) they take 8" (I think!)

Anyway Ive babbled enough - love to all Jaqui xx

Finally made it back for a quick update - phew where has the week gone.

Well DS is on the mend now. Had a bit of a scare on Friday tho` when a nurse was doing his obs she said his temp was up a bit and there might be a bit of infection :o so she would have a word with the doctor - seem to have heard that before in similar circumstances. So I`ll be honest I came home had a good howling session in my pillow and opened a bottle of wine and drank 2 yes, 2 glasses. Don`t usually touch alchohol but what the heck it helped me to sleep Do you think I should sign up for alcoholics anon ?

Had to stay away from the hospital yesterday too as DD and I both had gippy tums Monday night into Tuesday. He thought he would get home today but they said not until we`ve been clear for 48hrs - went in to see him as I felt fine only to get the cold shoulder - all my fault he couldn`t get home, stroppy little so and so. As if I`d really want to be sick, think it might have been the chicken we had at the hospital for tea, so it`s their fault. He`d cheered up by the time I went back at night though so fingers crossed he gets home tomorrow. Mind you he`ll be difficult to live with, frustrated that he can`t do what he normally does, might have to bite my tongue a lot.

Still feel a bit washed out so having an early night seems to be a good idea. Haven`t read back so will catch up later.

    Hi everyone

Hi DON79, not long to go now!
Mioliere, I got it from a shop on ebay called Woolstack after hearing about them on here somewhere. She is a very nice lady to deal with and it really has made a difference to my hands after only a few days. I wish I could get something similar in knitting needles lol. Hope you have a great trip to see the family.
Ianna, good luck with the hats, they’ll be done before you know it.
F1widow, what a nice MIL to get you some wool, and what would we do without Kemps? How is your neighbour doing with her internet?
    Pippa, gentle thoughts for you.
    ISOM, how’s your mum today?
Prfungi, I’m not surprised you couldn’t resist that wool, what lovely colours, just nice for autumn.

Went to Fleetwood yesterday to see mum and get some wool from the market for my ripple. The weather was gorgeous so just had to sit on the beach for a while – Heaven. Been busy catching up today with bits that need doing. The nights are definitely cooler now so need to tidy the garden too.
Anyway, love and hugs to everyone

    Hi everyone.

Oh, Chalky - I could feel the emotion from your post. It must have been so difficult saying goodbye to your DD, and a year seems like such a long time, but it will fly by and, all of a sudden, you'll be posting that she's on her way back! I can understand the worries and fears you have, too, but, as others have said, you have to let go to hang on, IYSWIM. I can't wait to hear about her adventures but I expect for you and DH, now that she's actually embarked on her trip, it'll take some getting used to.

Elaine - you must have been to hell and back with worry over your DS and, no, I don't think you should sign up to alcoholics anonymous - circumstances like you found yourself in the other night are what a good stiff drink is designed for, I think, especially if it helps you sleep. I hope he is home very soon. If he's anything like my DS2 was after his ops, he'll just want to get this bit over and done with, so that he can get on with his social life. He didn't make a very good patient at home simply because he just had to sit and rest until he had recovered. I wish you all well.

Pol - I can feel a shopping spree on eBay coming on. Thanks for the info on the crochet hooks; I shall definitely treat myself to at least one! Mind you, I've only just had a shopping trip on there - I ordered some jewellery-making stuff on there a few weeks ago and, now that I've made a necklace for my mum (I'll take a photo and post it on here), I've just ordered a load more stuff. I want to make jewellery for Christmas pressies for some people this year, along with some crocheted things.

Pam - the wool sounds lovely.

DON - good luck when it happens!

Tootifrooti - welcome back. I think F1Widow has given you all the info you need for squares.

Pippa and ISOM - I hope the mums have a good day today.

Well, in between helping DH with the house (which this week has involved sitting on planks of wood getting covered in dust while he saws them and other interesting (yawn) activities I've been trying to sort out the things we'll be taking on our trip - only five more sleeps now! I'm also compiling a list of things we'll need to bring back with us like 'real' tea, 'proper' salad cream, and so on. The choice here isn't that great - we've got used to most things but there are some things that we find it very hard to live without, and we usually come back with a load of groceries. I've found it very difficult getting decent long grain rice over here (so much so that we have curry with chips these days!), so I'll be bringing loads back with me this time, amongst the usual baked beans and so on.

Anyway, I could do with another cuppa.

Hope the day goes well for you and special (((hugs))) to everyone who is feeling sad, anxious or unwell.

psso good to hear DS is on the mend, that must have been a hellish week. Best wishes for you all. xxx

Chalky I really feel for you, (((hugs)))

mioliere sitting on a plank of wood getting covered in dust.....you really know how to live it up. It'll all be so lovely when it's finished though.
  • Peeps round the door ...... is it safe to come back in!!!!
Here I am, sorry I haven't posted for such a long time - I didn't realise how long it had been until I checked the notebook where I keep a record of my charity knitting. Ooops.
I won't even try to remember everything that has happened on the forum over the past weeks although I do read every day.
so hugs and kind thoughts for those who need them.

Chalky - special thoughts for you. I remember how I felt when my son (only child) went to uni. Cried for days before and weeks after - never felt like that in my life.

So on the needles at the moment items for the shoeboxes for loving hands - hats, mitts etc and some prem items as well.
I promise I won't leave it so long before I post again..
    Take care all

  • Big heavy curtains all up now, dining room, sitting room, bedrooms and the front door, so what is the weather like today.....sun is bursting through the trees I am practically melting, well just ticked that number of my list. There is a definate chill first thing in the morning and late on at night, so I know I have completed the task just in time. I can always open windows and leave the doors open if it gets THAT warm, I doubt that happening tho'.
Little bit of a surprise this mornings post dropped in a fine for speeding.....DH not me, so went on line and paid that rapidly...quicker you pay cheaper it is, just have to put that one down to experience and remember where that camera was.
Well, I shall go hang out the bit of washing I managed to fling at the machine earlier, hope you are all having a good day, PSSO glad to hear the DS is going to be home shortly, Chalky still thinking of you trying to manage through your days ahead, honest it will get a bit better.

psso I am sorry to see your DS has had an op - I hope he will make a full and quick recovery AND be a good patient when he gets home!!:D

moliere can i ask if there are any particular places on ebay that you buy supplies or just pot luck - i would like to make jewellery too.
