Chalky - glad you got back safely; I bet it feels really cold in the UK after Dubai!

Jean - the recipes look great; thanks for sharing. I make a tea loaf but without the egg, so I will try it with an egg next time. For SR flour here, I use the farine de gateaux with a teaspoon of baking powder added (and a tablespoon of milk for a Victoria sponge); it's not as good as 'proper' SR flour, but the next best thing. I really miss British flours!

I am baking tomorrow and hope to get my mince pies done, along with some flapjack, bread pudding, and anything else that takes my fancy!

It's been freezing cold again here but with bright blue sky and lots of sun, so I can't complain.

    :hello: The cake sounds nice.
I'm not sure whether to be proud of myself or ashamed, I went to HobbyCr*ft today and only came out with the 2 daylight bulbs I went to buy :rotfl:
Glad Chalky is home safely and good luck to Mrs Moneypenny and Ginny hope the sales go well.
My go-to basic cake is a 2-4-6-8 cake
    2 eggs
    4oz fat
    6oz sugar
    8 oz flour
bung it all in the mixer and add a bit of milk if it looks too thick
can be flavoured with anything you like, dried fruit, chocolate, lemon etc etc.:)
    regards to all
