last one - himself relaxie-vooing PLEASE NOTE - no shoes - he wouldn't let me take a picture of the blisters!! ha ha - He also wouldn't lie on the chair properly incase he caught the heals so he looks about 10 months pregnant, certainly one for the record books in our household.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday and that empty beach would be pure heaven to my dogs.
Poor Boab Dog, such a reluctant model, but that is a lovely jumper :T
I'm still aimlessly searching through fleabay listings for a 2nd hand machine, but TBH I haven't got a clue what I'm looking for :o What type of machine would I need to knit with dk? Most of my stash is dk or heavier, so something that only knits up 4ply isn't going to be any help to me.

My stock is rather depleted after the dog rescue's bi-annual show last week, but as a result they are now £165 better off :j
I have a couple of orders to complete and then need to decide what to create for an online Christmas auction next month.

My machine was bought brand new and I had 10 lessons on how to use it............ then things got in the way (MIL with alzheimer's) and it sat for over 10 years before I got back to it. In order to use the DK yarn you would first of all need a wool winder and re-wind the yarn before starting as the yarns going into any knitting machine need to run from the middle of the ball - quickly and smoothly, or in most cases buying it on cones in the first place (not cheap). I can use DK on my medium gauge machines - but only on alternate needles and at a very high number (low tension) IYKWIM, so have never bothered with it - I hand knit in the evenings to relax using my DK stash. You could use two lots of DK together on a bulky machine. Saying all that the fairisle number the Boab Dog is so miserable in is done using two cones of 4 ply so it is thick enough for the dogs.

Also while I was away I had a think and I am certain that you could use KNITTING LOOM to create dog coats. - I have looms but have only ever made hats and scarves on it - they don't cost a fortune either

Link below to a lovely lady and friend who taught me the basics, she lives a couple of hours away from me and I don't get to see her as often as I would like - I come home inspired and exhausted....... her name is Maggie and she is fantastic with machines running a virtual knitting machine museum and if you post onto her forum giving her all the relevant info (DK - dog coats etc) I am certain she will come back with the right answer for you, I am not trying to pass the buck here just trying to get you the PROPER solution without you paying out a lot of dosh and then it sits gathering dust under a bed or on top of a wardrobe!

Did you investigate where your nearest machine knitting group were? They would be your on the spot mob with first hand experience of DK machines

Off to continue stuffing the washing machine!
back a bit later on - ye all have a great day - ye hear!

Morning all, hope you are all well and beavering away on the woolly front.

Chalky, I hope you had a lovely time with your visitors but are now chilling again in the sunshine. Grey and dismal here right now.
Here`s another quick and easy hat -so I`m told anyway - you might like to try.
    http://jaydee67.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/magnus-hat.html

Jean, lots of lovely sand there but where are the sandcastles ??
Tell DH he`ll have to get on his bike and get rid of that potbelly or there`s no microdumpling for him :D
Glad you had a nice visit with Kathy and DH.

mtbuxton, good luck with the machine hunt. I was given one some time ago (very old I think, the box is quite rusty and I haven`t even looked inside) Right now I have nowhere suitable to set it up but I know it uses the thin cone yarn as there were a few cones with it. One day, I MIGHT get it out of storage. But don`t hold your breath girls:rotfl:

Pippa, your stash sounds just like mine. Turn your back and it starts to unravel and tangle and MULTIPLY.

I was very good yesterday though. I was in Aldi and they had wool, BUT I didn`t buy any at all :A I am determined to use up much more of my stash before buying any more. Although I have been doing lots of scrappy scarves and pet blankets, I still have a couple of carrier bags full of `bits` and small balls so will be continuing that theme for a good while yet I think, in between knitting other things. Have a random dyed corner to corner blanket on the go just now. Don`t know if it`s thick dk or aran weight as it doesn`t say on the band - first time I`ve had that happen, doen`t even give a needle size - so doing the blanket on old size 6 needles and it`s coming up fine. Definitely in `mindless knitting mode` these days.

Off now to strip my bed and put the sheets in to wash. They might get a bit of a blow before any rain comes along, fingers crossed.
    See ya later.

roamin in the gloamin thank you so much for all the advice. I don't think for a moment that you're passing the buck and am grateful for all the help and useful links. My stash of DK fills approx 12 underbed boxes, hence my desire to buy a machine suitable for it :D
I did have a look at the Guild link, but unfortunately there isn't a club close enough that I can get to. They either meet in the day when I'm working or on an evening when I'm already committed. There is a tutor in my town, but she only uses one model of machine - still worth emailing her though.
I shall pop across to the forum you mention and post my questions there too.

I am currently frogging a jumper I have discovered at the bottom of an old stock bag. It's not one I've knitted and from experience, I know there isn't a dog out there it'll fit :o The wool in it is lovely, so I shall re-knit it into something wearable and more importantly, marketable.

Good afternoon everybody... Hope all well or as well as can be.
Lots of lovely posts hereabouts which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading.

We are fine, shhh, if a little hot!!!! Fan still needs to be on all night and although I am still hooking and clicking the yarn makes me even hotter and it seems bizarre to be making hats and blankets but hey ho.

Had a lovely evening yesterday at a friends old Spanish house .... Cotijo ... Picking pomegranates and almonds off the trees and trying Nispro vodka! Only a tiny amount I can tell you as the road home is line a Kirby grip down the mountainside but it was a great evening. The ghekos were the main entertainment catching the moths by lamplight.

Today we have been for a good walk and roast Tapas lunch.

Still working on charity things and the crochet hat pattern is working out well and thanks psso for another pattern.

Love to one and all x x x

    Just packing up my

    50 IS hats

    ready to post tomorrow

I've been reading a knitting pattern for a fruit bat in a magazine, but if anyone wants to knit it or other animals then it was taken from a book called

    Knit Your Own Zoo

by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne

which you could order from your local library - well that's what I intend to do!

I was away without regular Internet over the summer (house sitting and looking after pets) so am very behind so I'll just say love to all and I'll try and pop in regularly again now!

My stash is of finished stuff now, I have 6 parcels to post and cannot book a craft fair for the rest as Oh is to poorly to take me. Dont want to book then find I can't get there.

I was wondering if any of you have a map of the USA that you dont need? my son and his wife are having a blessing for the family next year as we didnt go to the wedding and have a tiny budget so will have to beg and borrow. I know it will be special though. they want a Las Vegas theme obviously but the maps are really expensive. I am happy to pay something and the postage. So far I have a good idea what to make and have till February to sort it but you know how time flys

Hugs to all, glad everyones holidays were so lovely and you are all keeping those needles busy xxx
