Good morning everyone. A very rest
Was night for me awake since about four and gave up at six.
We have to go and help my sister in law this morning. Since my brother died she has coped amazingly well but the shrubs ave got away from re.so Dh is taking the hedge trimmer.

I am going to but have to stop off at the wool shop on the way.... Oh what a trial!!!!!

I am beginning to look through the cookery books for some different meals for the family next week.DS is quite a fussy eater so choosing his favourites is quite tricky .he could end up looking like a chicken.
Wondering about a long roasted pork joint but have never tried it.... Any ideas or experience anyone.

    Annakatlovely to hear from you.

    I wonder how P2tog is?

Hope everyone has good days and you are enjoying the sunshine that is with us in Devon

I am still hooking Fuschia mandalas.
Try and do a good deed every day.

Chalky - thank you so much for your kind words; you have hit the nail squarely on the head re my unkind sister. I think things will come to a head soon, but not until my Mum is safely back home.

As for roast pork; we have it a lot, it's very easy to cook. I stick cloves of garlic inside the flesh before roasting it, then brush it with olive oil, wrap it loosely in foil, and roast in a moderate oven (gas 4/5, electric 160/170) for around 25 mins per pound, and add 25 mins overall. All ovens are different so yours may take less or more time than mine. I take it out every half an hour or so and turn it upside down. I don't bother with crackling any more (our teeth aren't young any more!) but, if you want it, score the fat with a sharp knife, and rub salt into it before roasting without foil over the scored bit. I hope that all makes sense! I have a new halogen oven but haven't tried a whole joint in it yet.

Enjoy your visit to the wool shop, and I hope you and DH can restore order to your SIL's garden.

Thank you so much for that Kathy. I usually cook mine like that too but I have been told about a long roast where the meat apparently can be pulled apart with forks it is so tender.
Must get on to Mr Google!

Good luck with sister but you know what they say about leopards.. Could be wasting your precious breath methinks.

    I wonder how Seakay is?

I managed to clear a space around a knitting machine yesterday - so have made a strong start on the flatpack snowpeeps (if you want any let me know). I also managed for the first time in an age to do a bobble hat on the machine- proper ribbing - bit of fairisle pattern, sewn up etc
will post a pic later today when I locate the camera or the phone!
Have a wonderful day folks, sending you all cuddles and tons and tons of love.

there are so many mia's now its hard to keep track, i hope they are just too busy to pop in.

Kathy, once your mum is back safe maybe its time to decide how much energy and effort it is worth maintaining a toxic relationship -especially as the (for)giving all seems to be on yours and janes side.
i was reading an article in the you magazine at the weekend jessie Keane a novelist was telling how she severed all ties with her family over 20 years ago because sibling jealousy and bitterness was making her feel too ill and drained to cope with it any more.
its the old adage isnt it you can pick your friends but not your family, while most family bond are the glue that helps keep us together sometimes a family rift or certain family members behaviour can be so hurtful and drainig especially if you cant see why they are behaving in that way.
i think chalky as you said hit the nail squarely on the head.

must get on loads to do this week and ineed to sort my patterns out if im treating myself to some of that wool if its still on sale next week.

    hugs to all

I am blaming Chalky for mention of said 'animals' off to find a proper fairisle pattern right now! I feel a green/brown pom pom coming on too!

Mrs Moneypenny - you are right. This particular family member has always caused problems. Until now, we've just ignored them as best we could for Mum's sake, but she has gone too far now. I know that Mum is less aware now, due to the Alzheimer's, so will not be upset if the rest of us sever all ties. it's definitely affecting Jane, and she is prepared to cut all ties from her once Mum is back where she belongs. Thanks for the info about the article. It puts it all into context and I shall share it with Jane.

On a lighter note, look at this; all those lovely knitted donkeys! Aren't they wonderful?

Jean - love the hat, especially the pattern. You're so clever!
