Knit Your Square to Give Your Share - PART 4

good morning everyone
welcome to the newest member of our thread Clucky, sorry cant find the page the details are on at the moment clucky. it really is entirely up to you which charities you support A lot of us knit etc for loving hands so you may want to pop in there as well and see some of the patterns challenges etc. Because of the royal mails now extortionate postage charges you may find it more cost effective to donate your items to good causes local to your area, hospitals charities fund raisers etc, I know lou (loving hands) is recieving items that she then passes on to the various charites when she has enough to send or someone passing that way or we just post what weve done and which caue it went to.
the instant smoothie hats for example can be donated to your local age concern shops. they are a great way of using up odds and ends of wool.
im sure others will be along to welcome you and offer more information soon.
havent got an update this week as im still sewing up ufo cardi and did knit a bunting but it needs lining.
i did however have the most lovely weekend as my nieces (and brother and sister were at mums when we went over, Beau is gorgeous and Lola is an absolute blessing we had a walk round the garden she kept asking 'Whats that?' and 'Wheres the bird?' evrytime she heard one chirp. my older niece (my sisters daughter) is also gorgeous shes a young lady now as heading fast towards 16.
have a lovely day everyoneSPC~12 ot 124

Hi everyone
Mrs Moneypenny - Beau and Lola sound lovely; I bet they are beautiful.
Chalky - hope you are feeling a lot better now.
Ginnyknit - hope your OH is feeling better.
Clucky - a warm welcome to you; we are glad to have you with us. Here is a post I made some time ago to explain what we do; I've copied it and pasted it in bold:
WHAT WE DO!
This lovely group began in 2007 based on the very simple idea of knitting or crocheting squares for charity. The original idea was to make a complete blanket which we could then give to an elderly person.
A post was put on to http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ asking if anyone was interested in contributing a square or two and the rest, as they say, is history. Our group has made in excess of 8,000 items which have been distributed to various charities and premature baby units throughout the UK and abroad.
We soon found the wonderful Loving Hands Charity Knitters Group http://www.lovinghands.org.uk/ an ever-growing group of lovely people who knit, sew and crochet for charity. The group is run by Lou, a jewel in the crown who, despite serious setbacks in her own life, runs the group with an efficiency that defies belief. She distributes items all around the world, making a huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. A look at their website will illustrate just how hard everyone works, and you will find links to free patterns and lots of other great information.
Preemies UK is another group that collects knitted and crocheted items to send to premature baby units in hospitals throughout the UK. On this website, too, you will find links to free patterns, and information about what the group does.
One of our greatest contributers on this thread is Maytaurus – over the years, she has amassed a huge collection of links to free patterns, tutorials, and lots of other goodies, which means that we are never short of inspiration. She is always on the lookout for things to share with us. Sadly, she has not been in good health for the last few months, so she has not been able to post as often as she did. We all wish her the very best and hope that it will not be long before she is back here with us.
We have a Yahoo group called the Wooligans. It’s choc-a-bloc with the most wonderful photos that we have posted of all the items we make, for charity, and for personal projects. Anyone wishing to join will just need to ‘apply’, following the instructions on the website, and, as soon as they are ‘approved’ they will be able to see all the photos, giving them a perfect illustration of what we do.
Due to family and work commitments, we don’t all have a lot of time to spare, so there is never any pressure to make loads of things. If someone just has the time to make one little hat for a premature baby, it will make a huge difference to someone’s life. Every single item is important so, if you feel you don’t have the time, please remember that one hat will be just as welcome and valued as a hundred.
It doesn’t matter where you live – I, Roamin in the Gloamin, and DPixie all live in France (sadly, not close enough to each other to form a knit and natter group!) and Chalky spends some of her year in Spain, and some in the UK. So whether you are in the UK, in Europe, or even further away, you are welcome here.
We update our totals regularly. You will see from the posts already on the thread, that people keep their own running totals in their signatures and, when they do post their weekly (or monthly, whatever is convenient) totals, they highlight the items and numbers in red; this makes it easier for us to add to our update spreadsheet – a wonderful thing that Roamin in the Gloamin kindly devised for us.
In time, I will probably ‘tweak’ this post but I just wanted to make it easier for newbies and lurkers to find out exactly what we do.
Anyone who joins us is assured of the warmest welcome from us all and, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask – we are a friendly bunch and will do our best to answer!
Do please join us!
KathyXX
Well, it is absolutely pouring with rain here, and has been since Saturday morning; it's really cold, too. Anyone thinking of moving to France for the weather - don't!
Hope you all have a good day.

Hello all and welcome to our new ladies xx
Am so sorry have been missing for probably weeks now and I see so much as been going on, sock-knitter with her news :T:T (maybe we should now call you Nanny-knitter!) xx
mioliere - was so sorry to hear BIL is worse, I just hope that the pain relief is soon sorted and he is more comfortable. As you have described him such a brave man I think its the least to expect not to be in pain and for him to be as comfortable as possible and I reiterate all that the others have said xx lovely news that Mum is doing well though and am so pleased - it must be a worry for you but to hear she is well and enjoying the home must be less worrying for you xxx
chalky - I sympathise with you, as partly the reason have been missing is I too have had a bad ear infection and boy was it awful - one side of my face according to hubby reminded him of the elephant man (and I thought he loved me!!!) so I really hope you are feeling better now xxx
ginnyknit - sending you lots of hugs and hope things are better for you - hoping OH is a little brighter xxx was pleased to see that the Housing Officer has changed things slightly for you although it still is not right for you to be going through this xxx
mrs m - am loving your son singing - have bookmarked it and am listening to more or the same ones again when I get on the computer - clever lad xxx
pippa - saying about your poor neighbour made me choked up - how awful - pleased you had a good time away though - hope OH is doing well xx
Im sure I have missed something else important and if I have Im so sorry oh nearly forgot ...
isom - hope you are feeling brighter and if you are lurking big hug to you xxx
To all our other lurkers or MIA's we miss you and think of you sending you lots of warm wishes and hugs xxxx
Well lots of things happening here and cant really describe all at the moment but as soon as Im back up and running will tell you all the story ........ lots of different pills and therapy. DOH's nan 92 is quite poorly and has been in hospital not expected to last but is home now but the memory has completely gone - she was extremely low on sodium, had pneumonia and water infection - Dr said with levels like she had its a wonder she was not in a coma. OHs aunt is with her and has been for about 6 weeks now but I really don't think she will cope on her own with carers coming in but Aunt has to go home and MIL & FIL come back from their cruise on Wednesday so we will see.
Anyway I wanted to pop in and send lots of love and hugs to you all - always thinking of you all even if Im not here xxx
PS lovely day yesterday - today COLD!!!!Debt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -

Sorry not been around but caught OH's flu and still feeling poo!
F1 sounds like you have been busy and in a positive way, hope things are improving for you hunny xxx
Just trying to sort out parcels, Mrs Twins your will definately be on its way on Thursday, I have a respite day and will get my spends the same day. I want to get about 6 parcels posted the next few weeks before we tighten our belts to breaking point - bloomin bedroom tax is biting a bit deep  Just glad we had our little break before it became impossible. However I will not be defeated and do have emergency cash and a small amount of savings in case Oh is in hospital. He got his scan date through so June is going to be a busy month with appointments and we will soon know either way if the new symptoms are the cancer or another problem - the not knowing is driving him mad ( and thus me mad too)
On a brighter note DGs has got into a little school near his house and the y are coming to see him at home soon to see what support he will need - a fridge full of satsumas in the class room would be good :rotfl:
Hugs to you all my dear friends , thinking of you all while I snuffle away xxxClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Evening all
Never went to the caravan after all we had a change of plan, DS1 bought DIL's car up to DS2's garage last week to be serviced and to have new tyres on, so DS1/DIL and DGD's are coming for the weekend to pick it up, really looking forward to seeing them all:T
ginnyknit - I hope your snuffles are a bit better now, I am sorry things are so tough for you at the moment xx
My bone scan was ok all is well and the man doing the scan said I have the bones of a woman in her 30's...hmmm pity the outside dont match the inside then :rotfl: just a thought if my bones are so good why do they ache???
its the arthiritis he said and the scan doesn't show that up
I've finished Carol's second ripple blanket, also one from Grace's squares, and another almost done just need to do the edging on that. I am seeing MrsTwins on Friday so can pass them on along with 2 more bags of squares.
I have been flitting about from one to another lately ...so many things started and not much finished really must get my head straight...
OH has gone to snooker so I am off to do some crochet and relax for a bit
Have good evenings everyone
love to all Ax
edit: here's the link for the Easy Throw and the blanket from grace's squares
