I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS
A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange suns rays and dares to claim the sky.
But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.
The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own.
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.
The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.
Chalky saw your post and this popped into my mind. You are bound to worry as you are a mummy and love her; just as I worry when Isoke goes out at night, or miol with her free lovely Louis...better free than caged and missing all that life has to offer...hugs for you!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hi everyone - the thunderstorm finally stopped but we sprung some new leaks in one of the roofs which DH had to sort out at soon as the rain stopped. A couple of tiles had worked loose but, hopefully, he's sorted them out now!
May - that long post is lovely. I still haven't read it all but keep going back to it! Thanks so much for all the great links and for making your posts so personal to each of us.
Chalky - your meal sounds wonderful! I can imagine how you are feeling about your DD. When my DS1 (he took his first degree to become a civil engineer, then a further degree to become an irrigation engineer, and is currently doing a Ph.D at the same time as working!) was in his early twenties, he was asked to go to Zambia to devise an irrigation programme for a sugar plantation out there. I could hardly breathe properly with anxiety the whole time he was away. It wasn't helped by the fact that, at the same time, my DS2 was having the first of three major operations on his ear. Anyway, I digress - I just wanted to say that you can't help but feel anxious and tearful but just think of the adventure she will have, and at least these days there are so many ways to be able to keep in touch, despite the distance. I so wished that my DS1 didn't have to go so far away to such a different country but, when he eventually returned home, I could tell that he'd had the experience of a lifetime and was grateful to have had the chance to go. You will have lots and lots of tears, especially when she leaves, but just feel proud of the lovely confident young woman you've raised who wants to spread her wings and see the world. It's because you and your DOH have done such a good job that she has the drive and confidence to do it!
Well, I'm off to put the dinner on!

Hi everyone.
Anne50scot - Im sorry but I can't help with the pattern, either. Hopefully, someone else will be able to help.
ISOM - that poem! Wow, it's so powerful, isn't it? I absolutely hate to see birds in cages and the words really sum that up. Thank you so much for posting it.
Well, yesterday was busy mopping up after the thunderstorm of the night before. DH has fixed the tiles on the roof that had moved and were letting the rain in. Then I had to go to the holiday home we look after and collect all the laundry - bedlinen from two doubles and two singles, plus a load of towels and bath mats so, obviously, I'm hoping for some good drying weather! July's guests did all their laundry the day they left; although I didn't earn as much as expected, it was great not to have to do it! I have broken it all down to six loads so it will earn me a bit more for the Big Wool Spend that I am so looking forward to in the UK next month! The rest of the house had been left clean and tidy so getting it ready for the next lot won't be too difficult. I had suggested to the owners that it might be an idea to leave some milk, bread, and wine in the fridge to welcome the guests, and that has gone down really well with the visitors, so much so that they've all commented on it in the visitors' book! It only costs a few euros but is obviously much appreciated, especially after a long drive from the ferry. The next time I blog, I shall put a link to the website for the house itself so that you can see how lovely the house is!
Anyway, today's forecast is not so good so DH will be plastering (again!), and I will catch up on work, housework, and hopefully, get some of that laundry done. Tomorrow, we will go back to the dealers who sold us the wrong spare part for the car. Now that we've found it for half the price in the UK, we have ordered it there, and DH can fix it when we get there. Luckily, the old one is not in too bad a condition; we don't have to replace it that soon - it's just that DH always wants to make sure the car is in tiptop shape when we have a lot of miles to do back to the ferry.
Anyway, the weather forecast for the south of the UK last night looked horrendous, so I do hope you are all OK? My sister and her DH are caravanning in Brixham so I hope they haven't been affected too much.
I phoned my Mum last night and she is so looking forward to her big 80th birthday party; she's like an excited little girl! I think the latest count is about forty family members, so it's going to be a wonderful reunion for everyone, too, and I am just as excited as she is! I really will try and get her pressies sorted out and wrapped today. Over the next couple of days, I must sort out pressies for DS1's birthday which is on the day we sail back to the UK. Only fifteen more sleeps and counting!
Anyway, I will have a look at the rest of yesterday's posts - I didn't have much time on here because of the thunderstorm when I had to unplug my internet.

Hello anne

I have looked for one myself but only to find lots of other people looking for one :rotfl:
If there's one out there I'm afraid I can't find it!
Hope you'll join in here tho!EVERYBODY X

Wow, it's quiet on here today! I've been helping DH again and also sorting out all my jewellery which has been in boxes since we moved. I found things I didn't know I had!
It has rained practically all day; not what I wanted considering I have all the bedlinen from the holiday home to wash and dry. I hope it's better in the UK?
Well, I just thought I'd bump up the thread - not a lot to report from this corner of France, actually!
Hope you have all had a good day.
