Afternoon all...although its so dark its more like evening...

Had a bit of a catastrophe yesterday...a few weeks ago OH started on the stairs we needed to do something as DGS kept leaning over the side and I was worried he'd fall over and bash his head in or something equally horrid  so we went and bought all the spindles and handrail etc and he set to work, I told him no rushing so at first he took it slowly, but as he got the bit between his teeth he was just like his old self, then yesterday he decided to start painting...I bet you know what's coming...he overbalanced on the short steps and spilled the paint (gloss) all over the floor and part of the last tread yes carpet as well, luckily we have laminate on the hall floor and with a bit of elbow grease and turps it all came off... he was so annoyed but I said "whats the panic its only a bit of paint you could have broken your bloomin neck...NOW SIT DOWN"...and he did :rotfl:

kathy - hope all went well yesterday I was thinking about your Mum on and off all day, it must have been a wrench for her moving, but exciting too starting a new chapter of her life, and new friends yet to meet
ISOM - well done with the weight loss
shaz - take it easy and dont get overdoing it
mrs-m - how is little Lily?
chalky - yes we are going across to Devon on 11th July after our few days bumbling around the country...catching up with rellies :)
Seakay - I have a bag of tiny amounts of wool, that I keep for I.S Hats... trouble is when I start on them I can feel the addiction starting :rotfl:

Second SIBOL blanket finished if you would like to see it there's a pic on here...

I have another 'bag of squares' ready to start on so they will go down to the caravan with me, along with a new book called crochet accessories there's a bag in there I want to do so I will need a big box of colours ;)

    Hi everyone

Oh, dear, Pippa - what a catastrophe that was! I can only imagine it!

Jean - I echo what Chalky has said, and hope that Edna has gone away.

Thank you all for your kind words about my mum. She moved into the care home yesterday, which made my sister, Jane, feel a real mixture of emotions. We know it’s the best thing for her, but Jane said it felt like taking her first child to school for the very first time, and I know she found it really hard, and emotionally draining. I’m waiting now to hear how mum’s first night has gone; she’s been on my mind all the time, and I just hope she settles in well, although I know it will all be confusing for her at first. She will have her own phone and phone number, so we can call her at any time, and they have Skype there, too, so we can keep in touch that way.

Chalky – she absolutely loved the blanket. Jane saved it for her to open once she was in her new room (which the care home staff had made look really welcoming and homely for her), so it was the most wonderful surprise, so thanks to you for sending it, and to everyone who contributed squares; it really has gone to a great cause; thank you all so much.

As if Jane didn’t have enough to go through yesterday, my BIL was also waiting for his latest MRI results which seem to show a mixed bag of things. The doctors are more or less pleased with how he is right now, but they want to run some more tests, so they are both a bit apprehensive. He still feels pretty good, so that’s a good thing.

My other news is about my grandson, Sam. He’s always been classed as exceptionally gifted (his dad, my DS1, is, too – don’t know where they get it from!) He’s twelve years old now, and just coming up to the end of his first year at ‘big’ school, and the school have put him down to take GSCE maths next year, because they say he’s more than ready for it, and then he'll go on to the 'A' level. As you can imagine, I am very proud of him. He has also just passed his Grade 4 tenor horn exam. His sister, Lucy, recently had to have an operation for trigger thumb (bless her, she’s only nine years old), but she is well on the way to recovery now. She’s doing really well at cricket (her favourite sport - she gets that from her dad!), and her team was the guard of honour at the weekend at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground in Hampshire so, as you can imagine, I am very proud of them both.

We've had a house viewing this morning which went very well (but I've thought that before, so I'm not holding my breath!), and we have another one this evening, so it looks as if the market is picking up again after a few very slow months.

Well, I started writing this this morning, and I've just had a text from Jane to say that mum had a good night's sleep and enjoyed her first breakfast in her new home, so that's a great start. I'll talk to Jane later to find out more, but my mind has been put a little more to rest now.

Hope the weather improves for you all. I won't tell you what it's like here - it wouldn't be fair! Although I'd swap it right now just to be back there!

Oh dear Pippa, at least it was fixable. Last thing you needed though but at least DGS is safe now. I worry when our little man stays, and yet I never worried like this about my own children. I have to learn to relax and try hard each weekend to breathe deeply and release the tension.

Moliere, I am so glad your Mum is comfortable. And Sam, what a clever boy, he will go far with you all behind him. Hope the viewings go well, am crossing my fingers for you.

OH has gone fishing with his friend again so I am having a lovely relaxing day, strolled to the shops then sat here and had a quiet lunch. We just have to get through to the 16th when they do his next tests on his bladder, so I will just have to put up with his tension and shouty days till then. A carer is always the one in the firing line but he is doing well, I dont think I would be so good if it was me with cancer.

    Hugs to all Ginny.

    What a gorgeous pattern.

Pippa -- What a nightmare! But after all you have been through it probably seems a minor inconvenience!! I think it is so lovely you are making up the blankets for Mrs Twins.

    Kathy
-- It all sounds wonderful -- I am so glad the blanket was there as your Mum took her first step in the next chapter of her life! Brilliant news of Sam and Lucy and fingers crossed for viewings

    Ginnyknit
-- How I wish we were all a it closer to give some practical support but please keep popping in here so that we can help as much as we can.

And did he like it and all your kisses?

Well you can see for yourself!

Thank you for all your lovely encouraging comments! Missing them all this evening but DD'S and DMIL are glad to have us home and we are taking them all out to lunch tomorrow as it would have been Dad and her's Crystal Wedding anniversary on Thursday( Sadly he died on their wedding anniversary day seven years ago) but she loves going to the village luncheon club on Thursdays. So we are going out tomorrow instead.
Try and do a good deed every day.

What a happy little boy :-) Love the rattle.
I am busy making crocheted book marks to sell alongside some books at a coffee morning held by the pregnancy crisis centre where I'm an advisor. We have these mornings every other month, each with a particular theme. Most always have cakes for sale. The last one included plants. This one is books (2nd hand) The next one I think is jam/chutney etc and then I'm hoping to get enough winter wear stuff knitted up to sell. Also a lovely lady who does a lot for orphans in Romania will sell items to go into boxes to send out there. She's made the cutest of things :-) The idea is that people will buy an item, then donate it to a box, which I think is lovely :-) The Centre then gets the money for the item. The last one this year will be gifts. Again I'm hoping to get stuff made. So it's all go lol. Busy needles/hooks and hands :-)
Have a blessed and prosperous day. Hugs to all in need ((((hugs)))) Love you all.
