Hi everyone
Mrs Moneypenny - a hug from me towards the group hug. Glad your dad is doing as well as can be.
Well, my good news is that my mum has finally been approved for a place in a residential care home that specialises in Alzheimer's; this is purely down to my sister Jane's sheer hard work and persistence. It's what mum really wants so, although we all feel sad that it has come to this, if it's what she wants, then that's all that matters to us. She will be sent a list of homes that have spaces and will be able to choose the one she wants. One of them is an old people's home that she used to run herself, so we are wondering if that's where she'll choose. Obviously, with all the horror stories we hear about some care homes, my sister will be keeping a keen eye on everything, and she will visit every day but, so far, apart from all the usual red-tape delays, everyone has been very kind, and there is one chap in particular who seems to have a real commitment to Alzhemier's patients, and he has gone the extra mile for mum. We've also been told that North Somerset Alzheimer's care is excellent, so that's very reassuring. I must admit that my phone conversation with Jane, and later with my mum, were very tearful but more with relief than anything else. My other sister who has been staying with mum for the last six weeks, says she really can't be left on her own at all, so we are all hoping that this is a new chapter starting up and that, however long mum has left (she's nearly 82, but has beaten a lot of odds to get this far), she will enjoy life as well as she can. Thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts since mum's diagnosis; you've no idea how much they have helped.
Well, I have actually finished sewing in some ends on a load of squares that have been looking at me for weeks, and I am now deciding whether to do bodywarmers or wristwarmers. I have oddments of wool that I can use up, until I can get back to the UK to stock up on more, so I'll take a look at what I've got. I'm really looking for a crochet pattern for a bodywarmer; I loved the knitted ones but my hands are too painful for knitting; I find crochet much easier these days, so if anyone has a crochet pattern they can point me to, I'd be really grateful.
Anyway, will definitely see about doing the update later.
Have good days, all of you.

Moliere, so glad things are getting sorted for your Mum, it is a great strain on all involved - having been in the same situation I understand your concerns but yes there are good care homes out there and being able to visit a lot will mean you can keep an eye on things. Hope your Mum finds the home she feels safe in xxxClearing the junk to travel light

Thanks, Ginnyknit; we've never had anything to do with this awful illness, so it's a whole new world for my family.

Hi everyone
Just thought I'd report that Chalky and her lovely DH were able to call in here and stay the night last night, on their way back to the UK from Spain. We had a wonderful time (they are the perfect guests!) and, although it's only the second time we've met them, and the first time was two years ago, it felt as if we'd known them for years. They are now on their way, in their bright yellow Sunshine Bus, to their next stop in France. Chalky very generously gave us some of her delicious home-made chutney, lots of wool in a beautiful shade of pink, and a surprise crochet bird and some crochet hearts that she hid in their room for me to find when they had gone! Having spent last weekend feeling quite unwell, this weekend has been lovely!
Hope all is well with you all.
