ginnyknit sending hugs and gentle healing thoughts to your and your DH

Good Morning one and all and lots of love tucked in!
Ginnyknit and all with their hands overflowing -- The gentlest thoughtsx
Well it's Pyjama day again ( metaphorically speaking!) Actually had an early start with DMIL -- a trip for a doctors appointment, which turned out she should have been there yesterday!!!
Anyway DOH is away on his " boys" Cup Final weekend and usually I spend at least 1 day in my P.J'S finishing all my WIP'S BUT as my Mojo is still AWOL I shall be otherwise engaged this weekend. I do have 1 sweet little cardi to finish so will get on with that. It was last touched by the needles last May so it's about time.
DD2 is still settling after her jaunt. She is working 2 jobs and at least making some pennies! 1 is for a charity where she will be Managing a local cafe and needs to get it on the map as all the profits go to help vulnerable people in Devon. I am going to offer free Crochet lessons in the summer to try and drum up some trade.
I think she is missing a chap who she met on her travels who is still in Oz -- I remember that feeling so well -- horrible and so far away!
Well I am going off to take the last photos of Operation Broken House -- still bits to do but they wont get done now until our return in the summer when I hope we feel more refreshed!
Hope everyone is having good days! Love xxTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Hello Everyone
Im a newbie wanting to join in but I have a few questions.
Do squares have to be knitted a certain size - I am a knitting newbie too so that in itself will be no small feet!
Also once I have managed to knit one do I post them to someone to make into a blanket?
I may also need some sort of knitting guru mentor to help me cast on and finish so bear with me!Time to find me again0 -
Sammy Kaye a warm welcome to you. I hope you pop in often. We love new friends. There is so much help on You tube that might be a good place to have a look. The squares are usually 6" and there are lots of charities who need them. A lot of us help a wonderful lady called Lou who runs a charity called Loving Hands which you can Google. There is a need for blankets just now. I hope this helps. Lots of others will come along soon with more tips I am sure.
If anyone wants to see the end of Operation Broken House have a peep here-- Lots of little bits to finish but that will have to wait until we have recharged the batteries in the summer.

Right now its on with cardi!!Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
Wow
That sounds fab. Im hoping to try and knit a scarf each for the kids as a bit of winter prep but Im sure I will have some wool left over that I can use to these.
Can anyone recommend what size needles are a good start for a first time knitter?
and does it matter if your a complete amateur? could I still send to the charity?Time to find me again0 -
Sammy-- I think size 4mm (old size 8 ) are perfect with a double knitting yarn. Stylecraft is lovely yarn at a reasonable price.
I am sure the charities will be thrilled with your contributions and you will soon be really chuffed with your effort I am sure
Good luck with it allTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
See how much I missed you all--- Good morning one and all--- Special gentle hugs to anyone feeling fragile!
Well I am being good and finishing off the little cardi--- I am usually hopeless at finishing things - with ancient lurkers in the cupboard of doom under the stairs but it is amazing what a complete clear out makes you do.
The border on the cardi is really sweet and I am wondering if it might make an easier alternative to the one on the sands blanket which I have read takes ages.
I will post a picture later when the "ta da" moment arrives.
Enjoying a cuppa in my dressing gown but must get on and "knock the skin off a rice pudding" as my Grandma used to say xTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
ginnyknit - I am so sorry to hear your hubby is so poorly - I feel awful as I had not realised - sending you lots of warm thoughts and hugs to you and OH xx
sammy-kaye - welcome to you do not worry about being a new knitter i was once - Im still not great but with the help of the ladies on here I have progressed from a cat blanket or square to jumpers, hats, preemie items loads in fact - there are lots of charities (have a google) that will take squares - our lovely chalky does on here and makes them into lap blankets - I think though chalky may have stopped making any up - Im sure she say if not - I cant remember what "our page" number is that tells you what we do and where to send it - you could knit cat blankets about 15" square in chunky or doubled up Double knit - scarves are always needed by charities - it is a minefield to begin with
As for casting on / off - i either asked one of my "la la " questions on here or I looked at You Tube which was great as you could pause and go back as you were going along
Anyway great to have you on board xx
chalky - my tongue was hanging out and I was dribbling - the house is just stunning - I love the units in the utility, bathroom with the square fixtures, your cupboards in your bedroom - I got about 20 photos in (I think) and then it decided to crash but I think that was my broadband so im going back on in a minute - Im loving the open plan into the conservatory - i like that idea have seen it a lot in last few years on house programmes -mmm its just lovely - you deserve it - oh and the internal doors were lovely too xx
Well Ive said we have been busy sorting etc so I will now tell you why as I was just so stressed about it - just started getting my money pots sorted, debts and budgeting being dealt with and the landlord wants the house back so YET again we are moving and money I had put in pot has had to be used on fees and towards deposit - still I have proved I can do it - its only been a few months that I have been saving and paying off debts and I can do it again and we are not having to borrow the money to move (now Ive just said that ive realised what a big thing that is well for us it is anyway) so I am sorry for being so MIA but have really been having a turf out etc - we move the beginning of June - houses here are like gold dust they dont even get advertised before they are gone (and rental prices are very quickly going through the roof) so we have had to jump on this one - it is lovely - more modern - smaller but has a proper garden which I cannot wait to get in and does not need so much work doing on it as this one does - so thats what Ive been up to the last few weeks xx
Love and hugs to everyone especially those poorly or having troubles xxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -
f1 widow, well done on finding a nice new house, not only are the rents going up but decent houses are scarcer than hens teeth!
I think I may need another house to store all my knitted stuff in, as I am home so much I just keep churning things out with the hope of doing a Christmas craft fair. Actually I think I have enough to hold a fair of my own :rotfl: which is not as daft as it sounds really.
Chalky that is a really lovely sentiment 'to all those with their hands overflowing' OH has gone to score his old cricket teams match so I have peace and quiet knowing the team will look after him. SO am dragging myself off the pc and getting crochetting - and parcel wrapping before I disappear under it all.
Many thanks to all for kind thoughts, it really means a lot xClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Hi Chalky and all the Ladies on M.S.E. Today while I was out in Birmingham with my Daughters shopping, my Husband 'Mr. Twins' rang and said I had received a 'large' parcel! Well I couldn't wait to get home. I wonderered what on earth it could be! I opened it up and found 8 Lappycuddlyghans! I had absolutely no idea these Blankets that I have been looking at were for SIBOL!
I would like to thank everyone so....much for sending these beautiful Squares to Chalky to be made up into Blankets! The Blankets Chalky are absolutely stunning and I have picked up a different way of crocheting up Knitted Squares 'joining them' I mean! I love these Blankets so very much and after opening them I have found Butterflies, and other embellishments not to mention ribbon to decorate them for our Elderly folk. I am in the process of making a post on SIBOL, so I do hope you will pop over later to SIBOL and Flickr.
This parcel has taken me completely by surprise and to be honest I am overwhelmed. I think our Elderly folk are so imporant and SIBOL is a project very dear to my heart. We continue to work every day of the week for the Elderly and these Blankets will certainly help me with numbers. I shall be out delivering once I have the Olympic Blankets finished. I am doing four. One 130 square Blanket. One 100 Flag Blanket, One 49 Knitted/Crocheted Blanket and a 25 Blanket. I'm doing the borders now on all four but as soon as my work is finished with these I shall be out donating these to Nursing Homes.
Once I have finished the Olympic work I am also going to make up 5 Blankets for a Home for severely disabled adults and Mr Twins will be taking me to deliver them. Our Blankets are 'Blankets of Love' as you all know and I'm sure these people will all get a great deal of comfort from them.
Please keep a look out for the post on Flickr and SIBOL. I have taken some photos and I'm going to showcase them all for you!
Thank you Chalky for sending them to me (I'm trying to find your email address at the moment!) Sorry! and Ladies thanks so much for these beautiful beautiful Squares. I just love these Blankets and I am terribly grateful to you all!
Love and best wishes Suex
