Hi everyone, i am back and things are seeming to work at the moment. have just had a wobble with the computer and was a bit worried.

came back from our trip (i made loads of friends by just taking out my crochet which raised loads of interest from people all ages, the kids were very interested in the colours - bright, lime green and in-your-face orange, quite a combination, i can assure you) only to find that every weed in the universe had taken up residence in our potager. it is depressing! i have agreed to challenge myself to fill one bucket of weeds a day until i empty the potager of weeds, however, in between that, we have preparing for the coming veggies, planting the veggies that are ready and doing all the other stuff. it is however, incredible how much one can produce from a reasonably small plot of land - the average size of allotment. last year we grew potatoes (we are on our last few now), green beans (i still have about 30 bags of 2-person portions), tomatoes (i still have about 10 litres of soup, 3 litres of juice and 20 litres of red sauce for pasta), aubergines (i still have about a litre of ratatouille), cabbages - nothing left, broccoli (still have about 3 portions left), cauliflower (still have about 3 portions left, perpetual lettuce, its still growing from last year (it did disappear in the snow, but has come back), rocket, lovage (which is like celery and i use the young leaves in salad and the older ones in soups/stews instead of celery), carrots - not many grew and those were eaten straight away. it is surprising how much you can save if you grow what you eat and eat what you grow, its been an absolute eye-opener for me.

other than that, the jumpers are going well, but i have a huge favour to ask someone - if anyone has a 2 year old relative, would they please do me the HUGE favour of measuring the distance from the underarm to the wrist. i am trying to make the jumpers slightly bigger, but am not sure how long to make the sleeves. i have looked it up on line, but am not sure that the measurements are correct, my OH told me that i was NOT to crochet for orangutans, only for little african orphans.

other than that, the french lessons seems to be paying off - we have had 2 "social engagements" this weekend, in face one just after the other, and in both cases we were told that our improvement in our language usage was remarkable, and considering that one of the compliments was from a neighbour, that is high praise indeed. also, i have finished my first book in french, the boy with the striped pajamas, wow, what a book, i think that it was well written, even if i had to use the dictionary on every third page, i really loved it and, had i not been told to expect something to happen, i would have been even mored shocked when it did.

anyway, i am sure that you are all too busy to read more drivel, so have a lovely day everyone, i wish you all loads of health, wealth and happiness!

safe journeys to those travelling, my mind gone awol again
been back at docs, and been prescribed yet another different anti depressant, and refered me back to community mental health team, stressed lol
and worried, saw danny earlier, made him tea etc, then he had a text from a friend who had been in a fight and needed danny's help. daniel went, to see his friend and i thought no more of it.
tried to ring daniel goodnight, and his phone was answered by somebody pretending to be him, i'm not stupid, and know my sons voice. rang flats where daniel lives, and staff havent seen him tonight. nothing more i can do, except pray that he is ok, even tho deep down i have an awful feeling, that somebody has attacked him again, and taken his phone. hopefully he has just lost the phone, and he'll be in touch soon
    kids eh??

shaz, i agree with mrs m-p. you might also rest easier if you have done something to find out about the phone at least. try to keep your chin up, even though it sounds pretty tough at the moment.

Socky, I totally agree with the others. Contact the friend if you can and see what he knows and if you are still worried ring the police / D`s support wokers and see if they can help at all. ((HUGS)) for you.

Dpixie - our little J here is 2 (and 1 month does that matter :) ?) and his arm measures 11" from underarm to wrist. He`s quite dainty for his age so might not be `average` size. Not sure how that compares with the chart you saw. Did I read somewhere that African kiddies need longer sleeves/bodies for jumpers.......or did I dream it :rotfl:.

Hope all are well as can be and the travellers are having safe journeys with good weather.

Will call back later if circumstances allow ;)

Lou posted that on loving hands when we were knitting school jumpers. she said the contact out their had said the children tended to be longer limbed and taller so Lou asked us to add an extra 2 inches to the sleeve and body length
