hi all - after all the lovely weather we have had, the rain is threatening, i wish it would just happen and get on with it. the farmers have put their cows out, but there isn't much for them to eat, it breaks my heart.

i haven't been up to much other than a whole lot of gardening and some french lessons, which i am loving - i think i shock my french teacher with my stupidity, and the way i laugh at all my own mistakes, but, i have just joined a "french exchange" a group of english and french people who meet once a week to improve their skills, and i was rather pleased to see that i was most certainly not the worst there!

have ordered and received some lovely new wool and its really bright, so i am having fun making some "interesting" baby jumpers - the orange is almost neon, but some of the other colours are "relatively" neutral, so its been a laugh. i am using my OH's colour skills (he is colour blind) to help me put colours together, so i think the little orphans will be visible for quite a distance.

we are off to the uk again next week, (wool has been packed) in order to see a friend - he has been diagnosed with cancer, sadly, and his young son is currently in remission! how terrible for his wife and young daughter. we are going to see if there is anything we can do, but what can one do in situations like that - however, perhaps we can offer some help.

anyway, have a fabulous easter everyone and enjoy your time and family while you have them, our time on earth seems so short and i am not sure that we do really appreciate what we have in this lovely world and in each other. i am thankful for my friendships forged here and the support that is offered - and the chance to talk wooly stuff! thank you each and every one of you!

where do I start? My first time on this thread after finding a site called `loving hands`. Is it fate?

I have been looking at my rather large stash of good wool and was wondering what to make, bearing in mind that the grandchildren need nothing

Help me, guide me please. I was a good knitter and have knitted for 55 years but lately had a gap of a few years. My hands go tingly after prolonged sessions so I need to knit things which I can put down and easily pick up again :)

:easter: to all and I hope the Easter bunny brought lots of goodies for those choccy lovers amongst you.

Thank you for the birthday wishes for little J - he was a lucky wee lad yesterday with lots of lovely new clothes, toys and various choccy delights, one of which was a box of maltesers which I HOPE he shares with his Grandma ! After all, she shares hers with him. He might even save a few for Auntie Jean when he sees her in May :D then again maybe not.

Hope you enjoyed yours sock knitter. Shame the romance didn`t work out for you but Mr Right could be lurking about somewhere, you never can tell.

Kittie - welcome aboard, both here and on LH. I have a bit of a butterfly syndrome and prefer doing small things which are finished quickly so I don`t get bored and I like doing prem cardies or blankets (only about 12" square so don`t take aaaaages to finish) and hats, or squares which can then be sewn together to make blankets for people or pets. Lots of patterns on the internet for inspiration, look for `dishcloth patterns` and you`ll find loads to use for squares.

Have just finished yet another Angel Claire bodywarmer - think this is turning into an obsession. I pick up yarn and needles and think what will I do now and suddenly there I am, casting on another one. Have now done 25 and happy to do lots more.

Just going to cast on for a pair of fingerless mitts now just for a change as they don`t take long either.

While I`m here I`ll add my update before I forget.

    UPDATE

    25 Mayflower items
    6 prem hats

Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend - shame some of us have to WORK :p

    Happy Easter all!

I am having an indulgent day as I am starting the Dukan diet tomorrow. Well, I'm shopping and checking lists tomorrow and starting the day after. I feel that I have to do something and there is nothing on the horizon health-wise so I thought that I'd go for appearance and general health!

Still catching up with all your news after 10 days offline while I was away in Essex.
  • Welcome Kittie, I would go for squares......6" squares....knitted or crochet..that way you won't knock yourself out...they can then be all cobbled together - either by your goodself or Chalky or Mrs Twins into blankets....which can be used for little babys' or animal shelters, or homeless peeps...depending on how many you can make.
Shaz sorry I missed out on the maltesers but pleased you managed to scoff the lot.
PSSO.....ERM do you know where the local malteser shop is?? before I attemtp to assist you with the baby sitting???
SEAKAY - Good luck on the Dukan....I am currently Aitkins, but have the Dukan book and am going to get around to reading it ONE DAY.
I have done a few squares but can't find where the heck I put them safe, or for that matter the knitted burial gown....which only requires a couple of crochet ties and it is done.....so will leave it all till next week.
Love and cuddles to you all.

Hello all .... hope you are all ok .....
I have one of my la la questions
have recently done some squares but was really disappointed with the finished blanket due to my sewing up so decided to look at ways to sew up squares and came across slip stitch crochet to fasten squares together - i tried it on a spare couple of squares and this is really quick and quite neat - BUT my only problem is Im left with a ridge the other side - is this right????
Is there any other way to crochet knitted squares together as im wondering if this is quite a neat quick way of doing it rather than my appalling sewing together!

Any help from you lovely ladies would be appreciated before I tackle some more squares to sew together to make a baby blanket xxx
