I know some let you some don't......for safety sake see if you can find some of the plastic (like kiddies) or wooden ones, think Chalky took some to Australia and back - you could ring the airline you are using for the exact rule

Just did a search and came up with this page of info.....and handy tips

Marru--- I took plastic ( needles ) and a metal crochet hook on all my flights earlier in the year and had no trouble at all --- It so helped pass the time. I carried them openly in my hand luggage as was quite prepared to have them confiscated but no probs at all. I really think they are no different than a ball point pen. The cabin crew watched me crochet and knit quite openly without a comment. I am,however, not sure about short flights! I wonder if there is a more "jobsworth " approach. I have been through the detectors with my hook by accident. It is never far from my side!!!

DOH -- pulling his hair out about the rugby-- all sport should be banned if it causes stress IMO and my goodness the footie last night nad Rubgy this morning is seriously stressing him out!!!!!!!

Thanks for kind comments about little bits and pieces!!!

I am off to take DMIL to the local garden centre for a treat this morning so MUST get on!!

Love to all -- everyone posting, lurking or just thinking about us all xx

Good Morning everyone, sorry to have been AWOL for so long.

Chalky I hope you have a safe and uneventful trip. Your makes are lovely, as always. I am halfway through next pair of converse boots and will wait til you come back to send them if that's ok? Lots of love x.

ISOM new kitten is gorgeous, I hope they're getting on ok now. It's hard letting them work it out for themselves isn't it.

Shaz good news about the flat, hope it all goes painlessly.

Pippa sleep is good, and I hate the cold weather too, time to hunt out socks.

mrs mp hope babes are doing well.

mioliere sounds like you are going to have the most wonderful christmas here's hoping it all goes to plan.

roamin' love the blanket, nice colours. The apron idea is just brilliant. What about velcro for those who like to tear things?

psso the fishing trip sounds like my kind of fishing.

Apologies to those I've missed, I have tried to catch up but brain doesn't hold things like it used to. Lovely to see some new ladies on here, welcome to you all, looking forward to getting to know you.

Well, we found out a few weeks ago that my brother who lives in Scotland, near Elgin, has cancer and it doesn't look too hopeful. We've been up to see him, and he seems to have everything sorted, macmillan nurse etc. He is having treatment so you never know, miracles do happen.
Scotland, of course is as beautiful as ever. The rolling mist on the hills always fascinates me, probably because Lincolnshire is so flat.

Love to everyone, as always. xxx
  • Kinsey i am so sorry to hear about your brother and I hope his treatment is effective - a good positive attitude always helps the fight - i am glad he has got things in hand - my aunt lives just outside Elgin - I love it there - I am hoping to get up before Christmas.

Its wet here and I was planning a trip to sqeeze some sqeezy stuff:rotfl: I ordered some wool and I havent heard so I thought I could go and check up whats happening:D and I need buttons.

Hope you all have a lovely day

Dear Kinsey --- I have missed you -- How wonderful to be still making the little Converse trainers. Thank you. I too am so sorry to read of your brother.

I have been in contact with an American girl who is really struggling with the loss of her Dad and I have just sent her this little note with a poem included and thought maybe it might help anyone really struggling at the moment with difficult times xxx

    Dear friend.
Just as we open and heal the body by sensing its rhythms and touching it with a kind and deep attention, so we can open and heal the heart also.Sometimes this opening the heart begins by opening a lifetime's accumulation of unacknowledged sorrow, both of our personal sorrows, and universal sorrows we all know, like death or tragedy.
Many of us are taught we should not be affected by grief and loss but as Oscar Wilde wrote

" Hearts are meant to be broken. As we heal, we heal completely"

A Poem by Wendell Berry illustrates this beautifully --

I go among the trees and sit still.
    All my stirring becomes quiet
around me like circles on water.
My tasks lie in their places
Where I left them, asleep like cattle ---

Then what I am afraid of comes.
I live for a while in its sight.
What I fear in it leaves me.
It sings, and I hear its song.

What we find when we listen to the songs of all our emotions is that they do not stay forever. Loss sings to us discordantly, loudly, angrily at first. Rage turns into sorrow. Sorrow turns into tears and tears may fall for a very long time. But then, a softening grows around the tears and amongst this softening, the pain of loss finds relief.

The gentlest of thoughts to you if any of this rings a bell just now xx
Try and do a good deed every day.

Hi all, hope you are all enjoying your Saturday.

The cold weather means I have little unwelcome visitors again so bought a couple of moosie traps yesterday on the way home from work. DS very kindly set them in the eaves and about 2 am the dogs started going nuts, barking their heads off. DD was worried as she could hear scrabbling about beside her bedroom  and the noise was above the kitchen door so that was disturbing the woofs. DS refused to investigate at stupid o`clock so we went back to bed, albeit very warily. Eventually dogs quietened so assumed moosie was, em expired. Investigation this morning revealed that both traps had disappeared, so DS went crawling about to see if he could solve the mystery of the missing moosies. He came flying past me in the kitchen a couple of minutes later yelling that the bl**dy thing was still alive as it had been caught by it`s nether regions. :rotfl:He came back in with a pair of pliers clutched in his hand (to catch it by the tail) He then despatched it rapidly to the great moosehole in the sky.;) then informs me he thinks there are some in the shed too as he saw some droppings in there as well. More traps have now been purchased along with some mouse/rat bait for outbuildings. :D Their time on this planet is verrrrry limited.:D

Must be the time for all motors to be playing up. My wee car spent the day in the garage on Tuesday as she wouldn`t start on Sunday. Didn`t start on Tuesday either so had to get the garage to send someone out to fetch it. Fortunately it got fixed and didn`t cost too much either. Apparently the part which was replaced not long ago was the problem so it was replaced under warranty :T must have been a faulty batch as the suppliers said they`d had a couple back already.

Have now completed the main part of the blankie and done four of the strips for weaving so should have them all done over the weekend, unless something goes wrong. Knowing my luck I should not tempt fate !! Trying to decide what I could do for the LH Fayre at the end of the month, and failing abysmally to come up with anything. I have a few things which would be suitable for tombola/raffle prizes so might just take that down with me.

Off to put on the next load of washing and sit down with a cuppa and woolly stuff for a while. (Little J is having a snooze :) so I`ll get peace)

Fingers still (sort of) crossed for your swap socky and positive vibes being sent for the tiny twins.
Hugs for any who need one.
