Hi everyone. MIA again yesterday so I'm sorry I didn't catch up with you all. It was shopping in the morning (only food, yawn!), then to friends for afternoon tea and cake, then we were invited out for the evening by other friends who have a stunning house overlooking an equally stunning river - we sat on their balcony in lovely late evening sun, and enjoyed a glass or three. The friends we visited in the afternoon sent us away with two huge boxes of walnuts fresh from their tree; there are so many, I shall be giving some of them away. Tomorrow, I shall have a go at shelling some, then finding out how to store them so that I can use them over the next few months.
Today, I have to prep the holiday home for guests who arrive on Tuesday. I used to iron all the bedding at home but, by the time it had all been folded up and put in the car, some of it was all creased up again, so now I take my iron over (don't like their iron!), and press it all before it goes on the beds. The quilt covers are lovely but made from such thick cotton that they crease really easily, which makes the bed look scruffy. DH thinks I'm too fussy but I don't!
Pippa - hope your wrist responds well to the treatment.
Shaz - I echo what others have said. You've done all you can for the boys up to now, and they will eventually learn that they will have to help themselves. I can understand how worried you are now that Josh has dropped out of college but hopefully they'll keep a place open for him once he's realised that it's important he attends. It's a very anxious time for you, and I just wish things were easier for you.
Tootifrooti - hope you are feeling better now and are well on the road to recovery.
Jean - love the tree ornament!
Well, I'm off for a shower followed by another cuppa. Later I shall do the update for the week ending last Sunday, then I should be all up to date in time for the next one.
Have good Saturdays, everyone!

Well, a sheepish hello from me as it's been a long while since posted here.
F1widow - I am the Operation Christmas Child (OCC) person. I think I pm'd you my address a while ago but let me know if you'd like it again.
We're getting close to the time when we'll need things for shoeboxes now, and I've already had kind donations from some people. We can use different items - children's hats, scarves, gloves, hand puppets, snakes, purses, hairbands. No stuffed toys, though. For more info and some patterns, visit http://www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/knitting-patterns.
There are also patterns on my blog: http://puppetystuff.blogspot.com/
It was chalky who introduced me to this thread, and I'd like to thank her for that and for all the stuff she sent me. Pippa has also sent me things too. Thank you both.
I've become closely involved with organising our local campaign. This involves collecting in all boxes from our local area to our 'warehouse', organising teams of people to check each box and then pack them into big cartons ready for shipping abroad. This takes place for 3 hectic weeks in November, so if you'd like to send any items for inclusion in shoeboxes, I'd like to have them by the end of October, if poss.
In between times I'm still knitting puppets for our cause, aiming for 100 in total this year. I'm up to 83 now, so not too far to go!
Love to everyone on this thread - you all do a great job for so many causes as well as supporting each other.
love to all
Janet
PS When I went to update my signature, I realised how long it was since I posted - 29 puppets ago!0 -
morning all - just a quickie
puppetlady - thank you for that - you will probably not have realised but if we were dwarves here I would be "la la dwarf" - my brain / memory is hopeless - yes Ive looked and now realise I still have your message with address - so thats good - and lastly I worded my post badly - its my SIL who has asked for Ponchos for my nieces for christmas presents not for Operation Christmas Child - so dont worry you wont be having to shoe horn a poncho in to a box :rotfl: i had images of you lovely ladies sitting on boxes to get them shut :rotfl:
kathy - i love walnuts - but they dont taste the same from the shops like they used - they always taste a bit sour - my perfect image of christmas as a child walnuts and tangerines (as this was the only time you got these items really) xx
jean - :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - a lady after my own sense of humour xxx - love the tree xxx
sock-knitter - are you feeling a bit delicate this morningxx
F1 practice is already on (via red button the TV) - then it will be qualifying and race tomorrow (hmmmmmmmm) - DH on call this weekend but hoping we are going to at least get the loft cleared out
Well I now have achieved for christmas presents - scarf, bed socks, and have knitted but not sewn up and stuffed DS alien cushion - its a patons one that was in a suppliment "Irresistable Gifts to Knit" from Simply Knitting (varigated blue wool in case any of you have this booklet) so am pleased with that
Mrs M great idea about pillows! - I was also thinking of getting pillows for stuffing but was more thinking the value ones from say Asda / Sainsburys - I think they are 2.75 for two
This will never do I have been whittering - I am sorry - love to all xxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -
fuzzy head here, my own fault, been a long time since i drank a 2 ltr bottle of cider, and wont be repeating it any time soon .
f1, i have the pattern for the alien cushion too, its so cute, your ds will love it
nut in shells and satsumas always remind me of x-mas as a child
puppetlady i had planned on making some items for your shoe boxes, but unfortunatly due to breaking my wrist, i am really struggling to knit anything bigger than the innocent smoothie hats,
cast on for a scarf for daniel for mas, dk, and 40 sts, managed to complete one row and my wrist was aching so i gave up for the night
sometimes poundland do pillows and i use these for stuffing too, when they have them in
hugs

I'm so jealous. I particularly love a coffee and walnut cake but can no longer make them as DD is severely allergic to nuts specifically walnuts, cashews, brazils and hazelnuts.Today, I have to prep the holiday home for guests who arrive on Tuesday. I don't think you are being fussy. If you have the time and can manage it, it makes such a difference to your guests when they walk in on a nicely made up bed. I know I appreciate it although we are usually trying to save costs and bring our own.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
 Hi chums, just popping in to catch up.
Having a lazy morning, still sitting in my pj`s. Lots of things I should be doing but I`m definitely in CBA mode today so they might be ignored.;)
Shaz - not a good idea drinking all that cider. Apart from the muzzy head you`ll be running to the loo to get rid of it all !!! Hope things get better soon. Go easy with the wrist, too much knitting all at once will set you back, take it slowly and stick to little lightweight things for the moment.
Kathy - sorry I missed your birthday -many happy returns, did you save me some cake ?
Between you and full time mum - you have put the cake monster in front of me. I now need to have some walnut cake yummy yum yum.
I`m not sure if this working in a restaurant malarkey is a good idea, far too much temptation is put in front of me. Scones, pancakes traybakes etc had a lovely apple and raspberry muffin yesterday at teabreak. Must watch out though or I`ll be piling on the lbs instead of earning the £`s :rotfl:.
Oh dear, better go and get dressed as DD informs me we need to go shopping if we want to eat next week. I hate Saturday shopping as the world and his wife are all there too.
Back later.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.
