Hi everyone
Didn't get on here yesterday - we had a day filled with visits and visiting; all very sociable and a lot of fun, but nothing else got done!
Maytaurus - thinking of you a lot.
Shaz - I am so sorry to hear about Josh. I don't know what else to say; it's a horrid position for you to be in. I'm sure he'd have been even more upset if you hadn't gone to see him. What a shame you need an op on your wrist but good luck with it. At least you don't have to wait on a list.
Pippa - looking forward to the photo!
Mrs Moneypenny - I've been trying to get my WIPs sorted out, too, and I have a huge pile of squares that just need the ends sewing in so I'm trying really hard to make myself do them!
Yesterday was a lovely day weatherwise, the best day of the week so far and, apparently, the weekend is meant to be just as good. It's been a bit of a washout August so far.
Anyway, I'm off for another cuppa!

Hello all - not had time to come and catch up for a few days - another funeral plus other stuff - but just wanted to let you know about this. Love and hugs to all
"The Big Knit is back. Oh yes, it’s time once again for our little bottles to get all dressed up and don little woolly hats in Sainsbury's and Boots stores across the land. We first got our needles out back in 2003 when we knitted 20,000 hats to raise £10,000 for Age Concern. Since then The Big Knit has grown every single year - and 2011 will be the year we smash the £1 million mark of total money raised over the campaign’s history as we aim to put 650,000 hats, all knitted by you, on our bottles. For every little hat knitted, 25p will be donated to Age UK to help keep thousands of older people across the UK warm and healthy during the chilly winter months. As always, we need your help to continue supporting this great cause. So go here http://innocentdrinks.co.uk/bigknit/ learn what ‘purl’ means and get involved."0 -
:hello:
I hope I'm not intruding. I've just stumbled across you by accident (actually search word "wasp"?!).
Anyway, I'm wondering if it is fate that I have landed in here.
I've sort of had it in the back of my mind for a while that I should start knitting squares or similar for charity so perhaps this is the kick up the backside that I needed.
I spend around 2 hours a week sitting around waiting for my children's various clubs to finish. Sometimes I read but it's not always easy as you get interrupted so I thought I could do something useful with my hands whilst still having my brain free for conversation.
Where should I start?
I have various needles and a few odd bits of wool somewhere in the loft and I could ask for oddments on freecycle when they run out.
I have knitted in the past although I'm not very accomplished and get bored easily so the idea of knitting small easy items appeals. There is no way I could complete a jumper for a teenager, for example and I think I would struggle with a premature baby jumper as I'm not that accurate and I'm guessing they could be a bit fiddly.
I wouldn't even know where to start - type of wool, needle size, number of stitches - for a basic square. so what would you experienced knitters suggest as a good point to get me on my way?

Hi Full-time-Mum - a very warm welcome to you. I hope you enjoy it here! I see that Mrs Moneypenny has already filled you in with lots of details. This post here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=39210432&postcount=1885 (from page 95 of this thread) will give you some more info.
If you have any questions, please ask we will all do our best to answer!
Seakay - thanks for the info re the hats. I think I have some somewhere that I did after I posted last year's contribution. It would be great if we could help them smash the £1million mark this year!
Shaz - I've been thinking about you and Josh and hope that things have improved, even if just a little.
Maytaurus - you are in my thoughts.
Jean - hope life is well with you.
Pippa- hope the wrist is healing.
It's been absolutely sweltering here today - it reached 40 degrees earlier this afternoon; way too hot for me.
