    Morning all!

Nice sunny morning here in the UK.

Over the weekend I finished knitting my cardigan. Today I will try to get a zip for it and then it's just sewing up.

I also rattled off 7 little snakes yesterday :rotfl:. Yes, Chalky, they're quite addictive!

I'll be sharing the pattern for them this afternoon with my craft ladies who meet once a month to make things for OCC shoeboxes. So thanks to Kathy and to Linda for this idea.

    Have a good day.

I know you said no stuffed toys, then there was a post about making a ball into a spider, so i wondered if it would be OK to use polystyrene eggs for the heads for crochet clowns?

    Hello Anakat
I had to think a bit about your question , and my conclusion is that it is probably best not to use polystyrene balls to stuff the clown heads. The reason is that it will be hidden by the crochet work and therefore not possible to see what it is. My idea for using a tennis ball (which is still in the prototying stages!) was to have an open framework, so that it will be obvious that a tennis ball is inside, and also that it can still be used as a ball.

However, I think your clown is lovely. Would it be possible to not stuff the head at all, or would it collapse in on itself?

    I hope this helps.

HI Anakat and Puppetlady - How about stuffing the head with bits of the wool itself, you know, the ends that usually get sewn in? If you left long enough ends you could roll them into a ball, then stitch them in. Or, maybe, crochet a long strip that could be rolled into a ball shape? That way, the whole toy is made of wool. I'm sure there are ways around it; the clown is such a lovely idea!

Oh dear, anakat and mioliere, sorry to be a killjoy here.:o
The point is, if it is stuffed, there's no way some suspicious customs man on the border at Belarus, or wherever, is going to know whether it's stuffed full of wool or cocaine. He's probably stupid, but if he's having a bad day, he'll reject the who shipment to make himself feel better, not caring that he's deprived thousands of children of a Christmas box, or how much love has gone into making it for those children. End of story. Hope its clear now.

    That's why I make puppets!:)

Point taken, Puppetlady - I can see the problem now! I thought it may have had something to do with safety or cleanliness of the stuffing. It's such a shame, isn't it, but I can really see now why you make puppets! Thanks for clearing it up for us.
