Hi everyone
F1 - no news yet! We won't be able to go back immediately due to French red tape. Our two years under the French health system based on our NI contributions has expired. Two years is the maximum, unfortunately. Until we retire officially, we have to find another way of getting health cover, and that is what we are sorting out now or, rather, trying to sort out! We have to wait for our health cards for care in France, and our EHICs which will cover us when we're outside France. We have health insurance but that will only kick in when the new health cards are up and running - with me so far? It's so complicated and, of course, dependent very much on how fast the French get their act together. I've already explained to DS2 and DIL that we won't be able to come over as soon as the baby is born. Without health cover of any kind, I think it would be asking for trouble. I do feel very sad about it because I desperately want to be there, but I keep reminding myself that there's far worse going on the world right now, and I WILL get to see them as soon as I can. They have DIL's parents who live not far from them; they are really lovely people and will give DS2 and DIL all the support they need, so I know they are in good hands. I shall just have to content myself with photos and Skype which is better than nothing. As my DS1 told me, it might be better this way when they have all had a chance to settle down!
Well, I was up really early and couldn't get back to sleep, for obvious reasons. I told DS2 to phone me whatever time of day or night when the baby arrives and, of course, I will post on here as soon as I hear. I'm finding it very hard to concentrate on anything at the moment; I'm just drinking loads of coffee and waiting!

Hi all - me again! Update on the news - DIL is 'failing to progress' as they call it, (I wish they would find another way of putting it). This happened last time and she ended up having a C-section. She wants to avoid another one, but that doesn't look possible. Bless her, she's only 5'2" and very petite, and it's awful to think of her in pain; at least she's had an epidural so that will help. It's her birthday tomorrow, too; she might end up doing what I did with my eldest and have it on her birthday, but I don't think she wants to wait that long! Anyway, I know she's in the best of hands - she's in the hospital that they use to film One Born Every Minute!
Will keep you posted.

Oh Kathy I feel for you. We have arrived safely in Spain and all well but my brothers daughter in law ( sadly my brother died in 1994 aged 54 so this makes it very poignant for me!!) was taken in on Monday to be induced. Well we have been waiting and waiting for news-- Little one was obviously in no hurry! Anyway they ended up with a Ceasarian this morning and Isla Hope has entered our world -- So will get busy with a name banner now and much relief as I knitTry and do a good deed every day.0

Hi Chalky
I'm so glad you arrived safely! Many congratulations on the new arrival, but how sad that your brother is no longer with you all to share in the joy. It must be a bitter-sweet moment for the whole family. Special hugs to you.
Oh, I almost forgot; I posted off my four little purses to Aunt Dorothy yesterday, so I hope they don't take too long to get to her. My last two parcels of squares to Mrs Twins arrived within three or four days, so fingers crossed!
Well, DIL has been induced and the powers that be have said that they will see what happens after four hours, so we are still waiting. She started having 'twinges' yesterday morning, and DS2 took her to hospital mid-evening, so she's been going for some time. Summer's being looked after by her other Nanny, so they don't have to worry about anything else. I'm hoping we'll hear something soon but, right now, the UK seems a million miles away!

I have another granddaughter! She was born by Caesarian around 4.30 this afternoon. DS2 will phone me again with more details - he phoned as soon as she was born and didn't even know the weight! Mother and child doing well, but DIL had to have a general anaesthetic so she is still recovering.
