welcome schumie - home made crochet blankets rock! i have one for our king sized bed and it really does the trick - in fact last night i had to take it off as i was too hot!
morning everyone - off to the market to get fresh fruit/veg/wine for the week and maybe bump into our neighbours and invite them over for a snack and some rugby this evening ... and then stop at the cafe for a coffee and a catch up with the locals living in the main village.
have a great day - the sun is shining here, so i think i will go and play in the garden with some of those lavenders.

Dpixie - don't have to be fat balls, use the cut off bottoms of plastic bottles to set them I mix the seeds and the melted lard together in a bowl then spoon them into the bottom or old yoghurt pots, when nearly set open up a paper clip and plonk it into the middle so you have something to hang it up with, see this link to the bbc for their version

I have got no nearer to the camper yet...the weather is poor and rather than drag wet and muck into and out of it I am hanging off for the time being, will get some snaps when the rain stops!
Had a swift email from Maytaurus this morning, so have taken out all the personal bits and posting the rest below.......hope you all have a great day, will call back a bit later.

Hi everyone
Jean - thanks for the news from Maytaurus, not that it's good for her at the moment, poor thing. Please give her my love. At least it's good news about her Dad's prostate cancer. I just wish her life didn't have to be quite so challenging; it's more than one person can handle, isn't it?
Sorry the weather is bad for you - it's mild and reasonably sunny here today, which makes a change.
Schumie - a warm welcome to you. I hope you enjoy it here! I have a thick crochet blanket that I put on the bed in the winter, where it really does make a difference. It's far too hot for the milder weather, though, mainly because it's so heavy.
DPixie - I think shopping here is a nightmare. I've never liked shopping much - especially for food - but here everything takes forever, plus you have to allow for lunchtime closing. The queues really get me because everyone seems to take their time, as though there's no-one else in the shop! I'll see if I can find that Cozy's Corner pattern for the cardi..
Elaine - now, would any one of us have a wool stash that rivalled a wool shop's? You can never have too much wool, in my opinion! I hope you find the right wool you need.
Jean - I managed to find some saindoux this morning so will have a go at making my own fat balls (that sounds so rude!!). The ones I buy aren't too dear. There are two different types available here and only one of them suits the woodpecker; they were the ones I found when I was shopping this morning, so he's more than happy!
DPixie - it can get expensive to feed the birds but they are so rewarding, aren't they? I love watching the blue and great tits, because they swing around on the balls as if they are children in a playground. Besides the fat balls, I buy sunflower (tournesol) seeds, which birds love, along with wild bird seed, and I put out apple cores, cooked pasta, bread, porridge oats (uncooked), and cheese for the robin. Cold roast potatoes also go down well. I shall check Jean's link to see about making the balls - it should be a bit cheaper than buying them.
Well, I have a cake that needs buttercreaming so I'd better get on with that.
Have a great afternoon, everyone.

My newly-made fat balls (still sounds rude to me!) are in the fridge as I type! Will report back when they've been tested!

Thanks for the latest on maytaurus roamin', wish I had a magic wand. The camper sounds lovely, do you ever take the dogs in it?
Welcome schumie, what kind of blanket are you making?
mioliere well done on getting the right stuff for fat balls, I failed miserably looking for beef suet, I wanted the proper stuff that's in a lump. I might go somewhere else to look tomorrow. I've been a vegetarian for as long as I can remember so it's no wonder I couldn't find it.
Love to everyone xxx0 -
Not sure where today went, and it doesnt feel like i have done much at all.
We have 2 new chickens rescue ex battery ones and they look so rough compared to our other ones, but soon got the hang of digging in the mud looking for bugs with the others when we let them loose in the garden while cleaning out the coop. I am sure in time they will be just has pampered as my other ones!
going to try and start a bodywarmer shouldnt take too long to knit up I think, then maybe a hat on circular needles.0 -
Hi
Give my love to Maytaurus Roamin when you see her next :-) Hope you find that camper you want soon. We're looking for a 2 berth caravan at the moment. Need one for May :-)
Pippa S I've done a couple of those scarves. Didn't really enjoy doing them really. The netting stuff is quite strange to work with I found.
I've had a couple of busy days, so no knitting done :-( I'm promising myself an afternoon of it tomorrow. Beginning to get withdrawal symptoms lol.
Have a blessed and prosperous evening and day tomorrow. Hugs for all in need ((((hugs)))) Love you all.

jean thanks for letting us know about maytaurus, wishing her and her family a speedy recovery.
pippa i've got some of that scarf wool, havent used it yet tho, have too much wool to get thru lol
welcome to the thread schumie, you'll enjoy it here, and you'll soon become addicted
today my friend with the wool stall, asked me to call round, he had lots of discontinued yarns, that he was selling off, and he gave me the first look, after his wife of course, but we have different colour tastes, so all the pink wool was left for me lol, i love pinks, lilacs, purples and reds, cheryl goes for the blues greens, and browns.
now what to start next, i always have some charity knitting on the go, and some for myself, and i've just finished my denim ultra chunky jacket, it just needs sewing up, so i need to choose something to do next in between the baby items i'm currently doing
hugs all
