Thanks for all the replies, it's fab to hear about everyone's first charity knits. Well .... have already knitted several scarves over Christmas (I just needed to knit something/anything!) and have donated those to charity. There are so many great ideas on here, a friend has given me several balls of pale blue and pale lemon yarn, ideal for baby knits, so am going to make some little hats for preemies. Am also going to knit some cat blankets, I volunteer at a local rescue centre who are lucky enough to have lots of dedicated knitters and have plenty of blankets, but am sure I can find another rescue which need donations.

hi there!
Welcome Joanne good to see you! I did a wee hat first which was fairly quick and easy...
Cat blankets are for this charity:
http://www.bristolandwalescatrescue.com/
As some will know due to circumstances I had to rehome my much loved cats - two went to a friend and two to mum. Mum then became ill and we had to rehome the two with her which was traumatic and upsetting for us all. these people were lovely - so supportive and sympathetic and they have cats in homes rather than a shelter. We have sent them one bag of blankets that you have so generously knitted and we hope to do more! they are a small charity and know they are appreciative of our efforts!
seakay of course you can borrow hook...text and well sort a time!
socky/psso (and anyone else who needs them!) sorry to hear things are a struggle...big hugs!
Mum gone away for a few days so coming home to empty house was strange! Mins you what with work and babysitting wont me here much this wk anyway! Im ok...think headaches may be codeina withdrawal so am just having paracetamol and hope they will diminish. off to chill...worked late last nigh so feeling somewhat drained! ww going well...3 ibs off since mon!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! ooo managed two days in a row ....... dont hold your breath ladies xxx
mrs m - thanks for the link thats great xxx
isom - I worry you need to slow down a bit - well done on weight - you should be proud of yourself xxxx
well the hat i made for DS was well received when I gave it to him - then when I said oh you forgot your hat the explanation i got was oh im not wearing that to school they will laugh - they will think we dont have enough money to buy a hat! :rotfl::rotfl: he said he was sorry but thinks it would be better going to someone who has no hats and as he has plenty I could send it to charity - so inadvertently I have another hat for my challenge this week.
Now I have one of my la la questions - I naughtily spent some money via ebay the other day - circular looms - I know I should not have but they were very reasonably priced - the only problem is that ive made one hat and it seems very "holey" - not tight knit - iykwim! - anyway has anyone used these looms and is this normal - I was using two strands of what i have to say is thinish DK
Better go and get on with some jobs and need a cuppa - have a good day whatever you are doing - I hope the poorlies are improving - hug to all from me xxxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -
Hi all, just popping in while having a cuppa.
Well, `Kim & Aggie` aren`t here yet, but at least `Edna`is keeping a low profile - I will get around to decluttering, promise. Right now I just seem to be moving stuff from one place to another. If it`s not woolly stuff it`s baby stuff !! Little J has a lot to answer for - but all is forgiven when he grins and `blows` kisses.
Knitting wise, charity stuff is on the back burner this week as I have a couple of cardies for his nibs to sew up and find buttons for - maybe get them finished tomorrow with a bit of luck.
Rightio, off to find the black bags and get some rubbish chucked out of the bedroom.
Have a good day and I`ll try to call back later to catch up.

Miserable weather again today but at least it's not snowing:)
The grand clear out is chugging along quite nicely and the local charity shops are getting regular visits. Still the loft to do  but at least its all in unused suitcases or strong boxes and fairly tidy up there.

happycrafter wrote: »Is there a list of things that can be made for charity, I guess like the wish list on LH site?
Hello Happycrafter:)
We dont have a wish list as such but there are certain things that are always needed by the charities we knit/crochet for, like prem baby cardis, buntings, blankets, hats for sailors, scarves, school jumpers and cardigans, for Loving Hands and Preemies UK.
ISOM is sending 20" blankets to an animal charity near her, they are worked in chunky wool or DK doubled up so it knits up nice and thick in any colour we have.
We also have little projects from time to time when members are helping out with school fayre's, church bazaar's that type of thing and we knit/crochet toys, wristwarmers, scarves, little bags and anything that will raise funds for the charities.
MrsTwins makes up blankets that we do 6" squares for, if you take a look at SIBOL you will be amazed at how they turn out when she has woven her magic. She has made up and finished off 49 up to now. Then takes a few at a time round to Old Peoples Homes and they are handed out to OAP's who have no family or just never get visitors, it shows that they are not forgotten.
Hope all this helps a bit

Hi everyone
Kinsey - I'm so sorry to hear about your little dog; what a sad time for you. I've lost precious cats over the years, and little Louis who disappeared last year is still sadly missed. Pets take up a big space in the heart, don't they?
Sock-knitter - I hope you're feeling better today. This is the time of year for all sorts of bugs; I think we'll all be glad when winter is finally over.
Elaine - Kim and Aggie should have been here for the last few days, but they didn't turn up; perhaps they are on their way to you!
Thanks for your continuing good wishes for my BIL. We are feeling a lot more postive these days even though I know there's a long way to go.
Well, the weather has been quite good today - sun, no rain, and mild, a real change and I hope it lasts, and I also hope it's better in the UK, too.
I just need to sew in the ends of the cat blanket that I've crocheted, then I need to tidy up my stash and finish of some wips that have been hanging around for weeks.
Hope you are all having a good day.
