    Morning all
Flying visit today we are off to West Sussex to see DGD's in their nativity play, DGD2 is a star and DGD1 is Mary, minus 1 front tooth as it fell out on Friday night :D

They came up for the weekend as we were having a birthday do for Mum's 89th at the golf club where we had mine.
It was lovely all the grandchildren and Great-granchildren were there needless to say Mum loved every minute of it, especially when the staff brought the cake out at the end and everyone sang happy birthday to her. When she was walking out the ladies at the next tableall 10 of them all said what a lovely time they had had watching the children making such a fuss of Mum, bought a tear to my eye I can tell you.

Just got to get some knitting ready to do in the car on the way down then we are off.
    dpixie...you made me :rotfl:
chalky - I agree christmas is far too commercial now it seems all about money,
kathy - will do my update when I get back,
ISOM special (((hugs))) for you and your friend

got to dash be good....see you in a couple of days.

  • rushing in and out again, The School Fete went really well, all snowmen sold in no time flat, so must do tons more for the next fete, the micro rice bags flew off the table too, only 3 hedehogs left at the end of a really cold evening. The red hot mulled wine, given freely to me I suspect to keep me sweet for next years event did the trick along with the crepes/choc sauce, the people were all so friendly - am booking it again for next year. Wasn't exactly pleased we had to walk back home - looked like a "school snake" at 8.30 at night because we had to empty the urns! They didn't serve tea, coffee or hot chocolate only the mulled wine...singing along the way. Was given a box of fresh oysters - which I have now donated to my neighbour as I can only manage a few and then feel a bit off colour and DH isn't much better...delicious as they are.
I have e mailed Maytaurus' daughter today asking how she is doing, so fingers crossed we might hear later this week. I see there is some posts (three pages) for me to catch up with so will go do that now. Hope you are all keeping warm and safe - hope to call back a bit later then.

Jean - well done on being so successful! It was well worth all that hard work, wasn't it? At least you've given yourself plenty of notice for next year! Mulled wine sounds lovely, but I bet a drink of hot chocolate would have gone down well, too! I really hope you hear from Laura soon.

DPixie - thanks for your kind offer of a chat but I don't think I have your phone number because you phoned me when we spoke. Can you pm me with it, please?

Pippa - have a good trip! I agree that Christmas can be too commerical in the UK, although it's up to people how much they spend on it. I think it's easily possible to have a great one without spending too much. However commercial it is there, though, I so miss the atmosphere and would far rather spend the holiday there - here, it seems to go by without making any impact!

Absolutely freeeeeeeezing cold here today, despite having every available heat source up and running; I even left the oven door open for an extra ten minutes after I'd finished baking the bread this morning!

Hope you are all safe and warm.

Yoga was so relaxing this morning I have hardly been able to keep my eyes open this afternoon!!!!!
Lots of love to one and all

Pippa What a gorgeous party--- Hope you have tissues with you for the Nativity

Jean So glad your stall went so well --- all that hard work -- brilliant! I hope we hear good news of May

We fly home on Friday so took a box of cards to Yoga this morning and sold in aid Of GAPA and they went really well so that was good. And there is a plea to help some homeless not far away so will think about that after our travels. Guess blankets would be good as it mainly African men who have arrived by boat without anything at all -- not even shoes. They are living outdoors near some ruins and there are between 60-80 of them. A local person is letting them shower and a sort of soup kitchen has been set up but the situation sounds dire.

I had forgotten how quickly the little squares for the name flags knit up -- I have only got pale blue and have enough for a 5 letter name so far !

Well kettle is singing and I must get a wiggle on. Lots of gentle thoughts to all x

Chalky - I'm so pleased for your DD. I've thought about her a lot since you said she would be on her own at Christmas, and know that I would have hated either of my boys to have been put in that situation. Well done on selling the cards! Sounds like a horrid situation for those poor homeless men.

Yes, it's definitely extra cold today! If anyone ever tells me they want to move to France because it has a better climate than the UK, I don't know what I'd do!

    hi ladies

the young farmer, brice, came to thank me for my help yesterday morning - i was looking my very worst after and hour on the exercise bike (and i believe that i was a little smelly, shall we say) - how embarrassing! then he proceeded to tell me that he sells the meat from the lovely lovely cows (bulls actually) in feb and march and if we want to purchase some ... oh ... you're not vegetarian are you? YES we are, how could you kill those lovely cows ... it was very funny - he then proceeded to tell us that the meat was free range (i knew that) and that the cows/bulls have a lovely life and they are not put under pressure and are not intensively farmed, and i must be honest, if the animal is bred for the purpose of eating, and it has a good life - is it so bad to eat it? strange question to ask on a knitting thread, i know, but i do wonder?

no knitting/crocheting done yet today, but i hope to do some tonight in front of the telly - i am going nowhere, its expected to get to -5 degrees tonight, far to cold for anything other than a hot bowl of pasta pesto and some horlicks for me!

have a lovely evening all, sweet dreams! see you tomorrow

ISOM - I am so sorry about the sad news you recieved, crying always works for me but the frustration you must feel at not being able to be with them at this time is awful.
I am a bit Edna Bouquette right now but trying oh so hard not to be but failing on a daily basis. Chalky I am so glad your DD has company over the festive season although I am certain she would have been fine with her new found friends too, so one less worry for you. I watched a programme on French telly (the pits by the way - better with the button OFF) about the people who congregate at various places throughout Europe hope in their hearts, that they will reach a better life and a safer place - it was tragic, I really shouldn't have carried on watching it, so much sadness in the world.
It's bitter cold here too, seems that I managed to get the sneezers, coughing and throat beginnings of a stinker of a cold I fear that would be that partying on Friday night no doubt, serves me right too...ach its only a cold and I will pamper myself by the fire tonight and be in better form tomorrow. I do still have a bit of shopping to do - so must get that programmed in before the end of the week. Sending you all great big cuddles, stay safe and warm, will call back in again soon

DPIXIE - I have the same issues with my neighbouring farmer, he wants to load up our freezer with the Bio meat for DH and any visitors I get who love it. Like you I am well aware of how well they are looked after - due to have them all again for the Christmas and New Year holidays while Farmer and family scoot off for some well earned sunshine...I DO WEAR WELLIES MOST DAYS THO' HAVING LEARNED THE HARD WAY!

    Thankyou for the welcome

As I have said, I dont think I can knit, although I can crochet a wee bit. I was just going snow crazy and wanted something to do that I could pick up and put down and not get too stressed over. Im going to look at the links given me and hopefully make a start somewhere, The reason i wanted to do a charity thing was to make me do it and not give up

Kemps wool is a good online source of yarn, also ebay.

So sorry to hear your sad news, Mioliere and ISOM - thinking of you and of your brother in law and friend.

Sorry I've not been around for a bit - new meds seem to be bringing on migraines although on the positive side it's been good weather for lyinging under duvets in a cold and darkened room!

Love and (((hugs))) to all who need them.
