Hi everyone. I've just managed to wake up in time to see the last rescuer come back up to the surface in Chile, and I am amazed at how successful the rescue has been. I thought that being able to rescue even one miner would have been impossible but to think that everyone has been brought out alive and well is truly awe-inspiring. Just shows what teamwork can achieve, from the bravery of the miners and rescuers, to the fantastic technology, to the agonising patience of the families, to the sheer determination of everyone to get the job done - it makes me feel really humble, and so grateful that no lives were lost.

    ISOM - bon voyage!

Tootifrooti - it's sad that you are not able to fly, but are you allowed to sail? The ferries from the UK to France are brilliant these days and, once you are in France, you can get to most of the rest of Europe by car, so you could still go abroad.

Chalky - hope you can relax at some point!

Jean - hope things are a bit drier for you now!

Things here are progressing slowly but surely. All the kitchen units are in place, the last few sockets are being installed then it will be time for plastering, painting, and tiling. I can't wait to get DH out of the kitchen so that I can use it properly! Then he can start on the back hall which just needs one wall plastering and painting.

Wool-wise, I have done nothing for a couple of days because as soon as I sit down on the sofa I doze off! I shall be glad when we are less busy. There's so much I want to do; the name-buntings for the grandchildren aren't quite finished, I want to do some more charity items, and make a start on something for the new baby due in March, so I need to get more awake time on the sofa!

It's been cold here in the early mornings and late evenings, but quite warm during the day, so we are still going from winter clothes to summer clothes within a couple of hours. I shouldn't really complain - it won't be long before it's winter clothes only, I suppose!

Today we have a few errands to run. We've been concentrating so much on the house that I haven't been out since our visit to the pork farm on Sunday! Luckily, I had enough supplies in to keep us going but I need to stock up a bit today. We seem to achieve a lot more if we don't have to stop to go shopping, which really breaks the day up. Shopping has be to planned with precision here; we're still getting used to things closing for two hours a day for lunch!

Anyway, I hope you are all well. Will catch up with you again later.

    Have a great day.

I so agree with everything you said about the miners mioliere, a very emotional time and a happy outcome, and the whole world watching praying. Miraculous indeed.

My hands are very painful at the moment, so I'm swapping between knit and crochet when I can. I know a few of you suffer the same thing but what a nuisance it is. I suppose it's the damp weather!

Hope you are all ok, lots of love. xxx
  • so glad the minersand their rescurers all got out safely:T

    Morning all
As you can see we havent gone to the caravan today we decided to go tomorrow and come back Monday or Tuesday.

I too watched the miners being rescued and found it so touching, what a wonderful achievement everyone working together to free them. How happy and relieved those families must be feeling to have their menfolk home safe and sound.

Kinsey - I know just what you mean mine are the same, they were ok last week when we were in the warm but since we came back they have been a bit ouch! I swap between knitting and crochet as well as it does seem to help a bit.
toottifrootti - I have a ball of pom-pom in cream if you would like it. I put it in my stash box before last Christmas and its been there ever since,I really would rather someone used it. Just PM me your address :)
Kathy - do please try and slow down or you will be worn out, have some sofa time with your needles/hook ;) I have the first book you were talking about the Friday Night Knitting Club, mrs.m and I did a swap a while ago so if you would like it when I have finished it PM me your addy and I will send it off :)

I was in such a pickle yesterday just could'nt decide what to do so decided last night to do a couple of cat blankets for ISOM as I know she wants to send some more to the charity. I still have quite a bit of fawn chunky left and will use odd balls of DK in bright colours doubled up for contrast.

Right, the ironing mountain is looking at me so I suppose I better get started on it....as Kathy will tell you I love ironing I do(NOT):rotfl:

Hello to everyone xx Lot of love to one and all!
Really cloudy here today. And a bit chilly, and a bit busy, and a bit of too many WIP's !!!!!
I seem to have so many ideas in my head that I go round in circles and start loads of things at once--- Actually just writing that has made me think to get a piece of paper and write a list and work methodically through it!!! Doesn't sound like me at all!!!!

We are in the middle of planning a trip to see DD2 in Australia --- very exciting. We went to see DD1 in 2001 because she was 21 whilst there, and we feel that we must do the same for DD2. Luckily we have an endowment coming out next year so that will be an enormous help with the pennies. We think we must do these things whilst we arel in good health. Losing my brother when he was 54 made me think that we really do have 1 life and that we must do things so lots of bits of paper everywhere.

Of course the thought of holding her and a big cuddle gives me butterflies!!!

Well I must get off here and write the list.

So lovely to read everybody's posts since we got back from DS'S -- Gentle thoughts to one and all x
Try and do a good deed every day.

    Hi everyone.

Pippa - that's very kind of you to offer to post me the book, but I would worry about the expense of posting it from the UK to France. It will cost more than if it was from one UK address to another. I have already asked my local book lady here if she can get me a copy so, hopefully, I can get one that way. If not, perhaps I could ask you to post it to someone in the UK so that I can collect it on my next trip back? We are coming to the end of the kitchen-fitting but it's hard because DH keeps moving things about and then gets in the way! This has been the hardest bit for me because the kitchen is such an important part of the house! Now that the miners have been rescued, I keep threatening to take him all the way to Chile and thrown him down the hole, then close the lid!

Chalky - how exciting for you, and for DD2! A lot of planning but it will be so worth it!

We had to go out for supplies this morning, having not been out for days, and we bumped into some English people we met last year. We've only met them once but we stood outside the local shop talking our heads off for ages! They moved here about the same time as us and we've all had different experiences, as you can imagine. We've swapped numbers and email addresses and will be getting together soon. Sometimes it's so nice to meet English people here!

I am determined to sit down early this evening. Like you, Chalky, I have so much in my head that I want to accomplish, but I keep dozing off, so I hope to get at least an hour's crocheting done before my eyes close!

Anyway, my oven is beeping. I have a lovely sausage casserole in it (sausages from our local pork farm - delicious!) and I need to check it. The perfect meal for the cooler evening weather. Daytime here is really lovely, but the evenings and mornings are cold, cold, cold!

  • Coo eee its me, been trying to get online all week and not really getting very far forward! Here we are Thursday already and NO FLOOD YET, so whoever is keeping the water at bay thank you.
Time is melting away daily, while I sit at sewing machines, the sweatshop looks like Beruit on a good day, but I am managing to get loads done. Knitting and crochet seem to have take a bit of a back seat - although I have hunted out a bit of work for this evening in the HOPE that I hit a soft chair in time to not fall asleep! Cows are all fine and dandy, they settled in to our fields at the beginning of the week, but it eats into our day as they need to be walked "gently" back to their own place for milking! Believe we have them for two months and we DON'T need to assist, it just makes life a darn sight easier if we do.
Kathy - chin up that work will all be over shortly and you will be wondering how to occupy your time (well I can dream can't I).
ISOM - well I expect she is currently enjoying "Le Dolce Vita" - how wonderful, just hope she remembers to be coming home again at the end of it, Oh and do you think she will tell us how many times she got her bottom pinched?
Chalky - lovely planning of trip to down under, even better when it all comes off. Like you I share the 'LETS JUST LIVE FOR TODAY" attitude, cram in as much as you possibly can while you can, we never know what is just around the corner for us.
Rightio - that was my 5 minute update, I just want to wish you all a great evening doing just what you want to do and cuddles and love winging there way to you all.

Just popping in for a last look before I pack lappy away until next week.

Kathy - that's fine just let me know, I am happy to post to anywhere :) Know what you mean about the kitchen its where everything seems to happen in this house
Jean - I feel worn out just reading your post, where do you get your energy from.
mrs-m - yes I am enjoying it very much ta, hope you like the other 2 as much as I did
chalky - me neither I am the type who writes a shopping list and leaves it at home then have to guess what was on it :o I totally agree I lost my sister suddenly at 57 hence as many holidays and short breaks as we can, it has been difficult with our other commitments but we manage

Most things sorted now just need to make sure I have plenty of wool and assorted hooks/needles, it would be awful if I ran out of wool I might have to go buy some ;)
There is an "alsorts" shop in Paignton up the side of the level crossing that sells some very nice wool, reasonably priced too, I just happened to find it when we were looking for something else...that was lucky was'nt it :D

Well, see you all next week

    Evening all

Sorry have not been around - have been feeling a bit odd for a few weeks now (nothing new there!!!) so very very tired and lots of aches and pains (its happened before) I just want to sleep most of the day and get very frustrated at not being able to get on - not sleeping well at night either - I, like others, have so many things rattling around in the brain to get done

Ive missed ISOM but did laugh at Roamin wondering how many times the bottom was pinched tee hee

The chile rescue has had me in tears - silly emotional person that I am
