Knit Your Square to Give Your Share - PART 4

Hi Jean - thanks for the info. I didn't realise pine martens could be a problem, too. I think it's only one creature at the moment, so I'm anxious to sort it out. I put a question on AngloIn fo and had several replies. So far we have an electronic thingy, and some bait (from Gamm Verte) that is suitable for rats, loirs, mice, and lerots (whatever they are!). If we can't sort it out I will definitely ask the mairie for his advice, so that's a useful tip.
The weather here is lovely today - lots of sunshine and about 23 degrees, which I think is just right.
Hope everyone is having a good day.

Good evening one and all -- So much going on at the moment.
Shaz -- All I hope is soon things calm down for you and your boys.
Kathy-- That visitor would freak me out. We once had a rat in our house ( they knocked down some old barns in the village and set them on the run!) It was such a horrible experience. So I hope you get your unwanted visitor sorted soon. I think of you both often.
F1 -- Thanks for kind thoughts about dd2-- she is now in Singapore and soon on her way to OZ where she has a job waiting for her in Melbourne.
It is really strange I have not felt so settled with my craft work since she left and I find myself just doing little jobs -- in between getting terribly frustrated with circular needles etc!!
We are off to spend a few days with DS and DDIL next week in Barnstaple so hope she will spur me on.
Well it is bucketing down here and it looks very set in for tomorrow so all of you especially if you have littlies I hope you get some sunshine in your backyard.
Lots of gentle thoughts to all who have their hands full. Shelley love to you and Mum xxTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Hi everyone. Just popping in before we finally sit down for the evening.
Shaz - I hope today went better than yesterday.
Shez - I echo Chalky; thoughts with you and your Mum.
Mrs Moneypenny - at a book fair I went to last week I picked up Knit Two - I seem to remember that you have read that one?
Chalky - I often think of you, too. It was so lovely to meet you and your DH; we have great memories of your visit. When we first heard our nocturnal visitor, it freaked me out because I just assumed it was a rat. It may well be a rat but I've convinced myself it's something slightly less sinister. If it's a loir or a lerot (members of the dormouse family but bigger!) they only have one or two litters a year - the thought of one pair of rats becoming a million within a year is awful! Anyway, from what others have said, it's one of the less scary ones. I was told today that they don't like mothballs so we now have in our armoury: 1 electronic thing, a big box of bait, and a bag of mothballs that I bought this afternoon! I think it will get the message soon! I hate the thought of poisoning it, though, so I hope the other two remedies work really.
I hope you soon feel more settled but I bet your DD is never far from your mind, is she? And that scare the other day must have had quite an impact on you. I expect you'll feel happier once she has reached OZ and is settled in her new job.
Well, after a few cold days, it was really warm and sunny today. Summer clothes again - and I was thinking about packing them away!
Well, we really are starting on the kitchen proper on Monday. DH has done loads of other jobs this week, even putting up a noticeboard in my office and other fiddly little things. Having the kitchen done will be a nightmare but at least I can tuck myself away in here and forget about it all - until mealtimes, of course, but I've planned simple fare for the next few days. I know it will be worth it when it's all done but I'm not the best wife a man like him could have at times like this!
Well, I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday evening. I think I can hear a wine bottle being opened so I'd better go and get my glass!
Cheers!

morning all, hope everyone is ok, the weather is horrible here, really dark, and the rain is pouring down.
i have given in and given the kids their main xmas pressie already, they both have new notebooks, like laptops but smaller, the silence in this house is wonderful, its so peaceful and calm for a change.
on the knitting front i have finished another adult hat for my craft stall, and plan to start another today, they grow pretty quick with aran wool
shelly thinking of you and your mum x
may, hope you getting some sleep x
kathy, i dont think i'd sleep if a rodent was above my bed in the ceiling, hope you get it sorted soon
chalky, hope you feel more settled once dd is in oz and settled into her new job
mrs mp, read on another thread, that u fancy trying to knit socks, i'd say deffinatly give it a try, once u get used to all the needles, it really is easier than it sounds, if u lived near me, i'd love to show you how

Hi everyone.
Shaz - hope the weather clears up for you. I think you did the right thing giving the boys their notebooks early; I'm sure that having their own computers will probably help keep things a lot calmer for you all. I'm thinking about getting a notebook for myself, so I'd be interested in what you think about them! I have a desk top (which I love, as I do a lot of freelance written work online and I don't think I could do that so easily with a smaller keyboard) but a notebook would be more portable. I'll have to wait until my next trip to the UK, though, because the French keyboards are a little different from the 'qwerty' one I was taught to type on!
Well, I lost my internet again this morning but luckily managed to get it back after a couple of hours. It seems to happen every couple of months and always when I've just about stopped worrying about losing it!
Mrs Moneypenny - I'll save my 'Knit Two' until I've read the first one, then. I'll ask the lady here who sells English books if she has a copy of it; she's great because she'll always look for a particular title that she's been asked for. At the moment I'm reading 'From Here You Can't See Paris' which is a brilliant real-life first-person account of an American and his family who lived in the Lot area of France; it's a fascinating book in which he recalls the lives of people who live in a rural area but, one thing I do know, I will NEVER EVER be tempted to try fois gras having read exactly what the poor ducks (well, ducklings, actually, because they only live short lives) go through to produce it. No food is ever worth that.
On a lighter note, I have finished all the squares for the name-buntings I am making for the grandchildren, and I decided to crochet the letters to be appliqued on to them. I've made and 'L' and I'm ridiculously pleased with the result! DH didn't share my excitement, which I can't understand because I had to admire a bit of architrave he had made to fit round an internal window!
No sign of the occupant of the ceiling lately - one of our methods must be working, fingers crossed!
Well, I hope you are all having a good day.

kathy, i have a notebook too, as well as the desktop one, the notebook is ok, but not as fast, and if you used to a full sized keyboard and mouse, then they can be fiddly, but they do have their uses as they are portable, and ideal for holidays etc
anyway kids loving theirs, as they can now go on chat forums etc,

Morning all - very wet very windy - weather horrible isnt it - does not make you have much get up and go
kathy - oh no the rodent problem - I could not sleep - FIL has been telling me he thought he had mice in the loft - now he thinks its actually bats - not sure what is worse - I really dont like things that flap - hope you slept better last night xxxx
Talking of things that flat - Friday i was sitting on sofa and looked out to see a heron on the flat roof of house over road - it was massive - DS just went 'oh yeh" i was rooted - wanted to see which way it flew - luckily now where near my house - nice to look at - but from a distance !!! I do have a lovely robin in my garden but again nice that he is outside and im in x
sock-knitter - oh thank heavens for gifts - I really dont blame you letting them have them early - DS was given Grandmothers laptop last christmas (although he still seems to use ours) - he loves it - the things he has learnt from the internet - being a bit younger though I do limit his time on it - is DS feeling better? Wish i could master DPNS - I get in a muddle and they land somewhere over the other side of room - circulars as well! xxx
I really really need to iron (i know naughty word) I just dont have it in me whatsoever.
Had better go and sort some lunch out - might catch up later xxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0
