running a wee bit late today - bloomin fire would NOT light three attempts - not like me at all, so everything else just fell behind.

Good news is I have finished a lovely bit of Japanese flowers (Made up my own pattern) - photo to follow - it's my intention to chain stitch them together and dangle them down the inside of the kitchen windows in an attempt to stop the kamakazee birds we have here, they hurl themselves at the glass and knock themselves out (or worse). I have tried stickers on the windows (they didn't work) I have also tried coloured feathers on fishing line - they failed also, so this is my latest shot - I know net curtains would also work but I am not a fan of them either.

Roamin when the kids were little they got a silhouette of a hovering hawk on one of those plastic tags you stuck to the window so it sort of hovered bounced away from the glass, we stuck it to the window and never got a bird anywhere near the window while it was there. Would something like that work. If you print out a coloured silhouette of a hovering hawk then cut it out and of you have access to a laminator cut it out leaving a strip of plastic about 1cm wide attached to the head so that you stick a piece of double sided tape to the end so when you put it on the window it sort of curves away from the glass so it hovers. Not sure if you can work out what I mean from that descrtion but it might be wirth a try.
Love the flowers they are so pretty

F1 I hope everything goes well for your DH it must be a very stressful time for you both. Hugs for you

Hi, everyone. I hope you are all keeping well, and as warm as possible in this cold weather.

Jean - I love those flowers. I always string old CDs up at our conservatory windows to stop birds flying into them, and they have worked well, but the flowers would look a lot better. I have heard of Mrs Moneypenney's solution working well, too.

F1 - good luck with OH's scan, and with the operation. I hope it all goes well.

Chalky - hope DH is recovering well.

Thanks for all your good wishes for Sam. We had a lovely Skype call from the family last night, and had a quick word with him. He looks pretty good apart from being a little washed out. He's had a good weekend and managed to get out in the garden for a game of football, and, as the doctors said it would do him good, he's even going to school for the first three days of this week; mornings only, but it's better than no school, and he has missed his friends. On Thursday he will have a 'line' put into his chest; it will have the end on the outside for administering the chemo. On Friday, there will be a meeting with the doctors to discuss the next stage depending on the results of last Friday's bone marrow test. I am really anxious about that - they have been told that, with this type of leukaemia, at this stage, around 40% of patients will have a 'simple' low dose treatment plan, around 40% will require something more intense, and, with the the other 20% (which I don't want to think about), the treatment will be more drastic so, the good feeling I had having seen him on Skype and heard about all that he's been enjoying over the weekend, has evaporated a little - I just want to get to Friday and hear that he's in that first 40% . My son said that it's all very intense with keeping on top of all the drugs he needs, and taking temperatures twice a day. My daughter-in-law has been signed off work for three months, but I think she will probably give up work altogether because this is a long three year plan that they have ahead of them, and they will want one of them to be at home with him all the time. Anyway, that's the story so far. He's as happy as he can be, and has had a busy and productive weekend, and I know he will love being back at school for a few hours this week, but I find it hard to think of anything else these days, as you can imagine.

I shall do the update later on today. I can't go out - my ankle is healing but still really swollen and I can't get my winter boots on or even a pair of shoes, so DH will be running the errands that need doing today!

Well, I am off to put the kettle on, so will catch up with you all later. Thank you so much for thinking of Sam - it makes such a difference.

  • That all sound very positive Kathy, Sam is progressing well - managing to get into the school will also give him a huge boost and as for the football - I am amazed at his tenacity and fight. It all helps to keep things as normal as they can be not just for Sam but for the whole family. Sending even more loving hugs and great vibes for you all. If you could just make sure YOU look after yourself and get that ankle better - that way when you get the call to go and visit you are in tip top condition. I have visions of you in a pair of slippers out and about - not a smart look even for rural France - its big wooden clogs in my part of Brittany and they make such a racket too!
Really frosty here but the house is warm and toasty, my DH is also going to be running to the supermarket today - no idea how long it will take him, but at least he is going - saving me time to do some much needed housework (I know that is swearing - but it needs to be done. I can then settle down to some craftyness.
So, ye all have a terrific Monday with a wonderful week spread ahead of us.

Hi, Jean - I wear these

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Womens-Ella-Sheepskin-Winter-Ladies/dp/B00PXY6FOS/ref=sr_1_64?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1423487030&sr=1-64&keywords=ladies+boot+slippers

as slippers and they are excellent but I don't wear them outside. They have been fantastic all through this winter and I can wear them with leggings, jeans, and skirts, so they cover ever occasion, although I doubt they would do for tea with the Queen! And they are so comfy; like gloves for the feet! The ankle is definitely on the mend; it's still twice the size of the other one, so needs a few more days, but the pain has gone.

I keep picturing Sam at school and enjoying being with his friends. He really enjoys school, which makes it even sadder that this illness will take up so much of his time, but we are all grateful that the treatment is available, and that the outcome is so positive. He's definitely not one to feel sorry for himself, and his mum and dad won't let him, so I have no worries on that score. He likes to be busy, which is good, and his sister is such a live wire that they have a lot of fun together.

Thanks for the hugs! Have a great afternoon.
