Morning all, sunny but chilly here, no snow thank goodness.

Thank you for the birthday wishes.was indeed spoiled. Flowers, balloon,Yankee candle selection, maltesers, thorntons toffees, books and more maltesers......and was taken out for a meal too. Thought it was just DS, DD and little J, but my other two daughters and the grandchildren were there when we went in. Nice surprise, and cake to follow.!!

Have looked out a few squares for the blanket, hope they are suitable.
Will post them off next week hopefully.

I'll pop back later as must dash off just now.

I am currently signed up for a CAL with a f/b community (last to start tho'-fingers nearly better) and they have given me a link to yarn joining -for knitting or crochet. GOT TO SHARE IT - magic knot!!

As a life long knitter I thought I knew just about everything. Very interesting and useful way to join yarn. Have saved the link and will need to practice. Thanks.

azzabazza- I got two different colours of yarn and taped them to a piece of cardboard, did the tying in (taped that as well) and wrote a bit of a description to the side of it all. Now has pride of place on my work board - I am SO impressed with it, like you have tried just about every kind of joining in my time - but this is a new BEST ONE!

My CAL if anyone else would like to join in is

    http://www.lookatwhatimade.net/crafts/yarn/crochet/sophies-universe-cal-2015/

lots of new stitches for me to tackle I have finished part 1 and now onto part two, I am behind everyone else because of the burt/scalded fingers but catching up quickly.

Thank you roamin that is brilliant could have done with that knot when I did all my scarves for Christmas. All 11 of them. Still not done the aircraft carrier one for DS. I still have one left for SIL birthday so will try and get DS to take some photos. I am dying to show you all my cardigan I am doing now. It is not an Aran pattern just Aran weight self patterning.

It's called Magic Aran. I have actually done hundreds of Aran Patterns I used to sell sweaters. Eventually got tired of doing them especially as I had rashes up my arms all the time from using wool. This one is acrylic.

The knot would have been useful for the scarves as they did not have a wrong side. I can weave in but I can see it. Other people tell me they can't.

I have booked the page and signed up for the newsletter.

Chalky I hope you are not as fed up as I am with the cowls. I am sick of seeing the same ones over and over again. I assure you they do send you other patterns.

psso belated happy birthday, so glad you had a good one.

azzabazza I agree have never seen that knot before. I have been a lifelong knitter, learned from my aunt when I was four. I wonder if they are the same knots I have been cutting out of balls when I come to them. I can't untie them.

I learned dpns at school when I finished my square before the teacher finished explaining how to cast on to everyone else, she photocopied her pattern and she gave me wool to make myself gloves. I was only 6 and had never had any gloves before only mittens. I then spent the next two years making gloves for everyone. It felt like the world to me but I would think everyone was either related or a close friend of my mums.

I don't think I have made any since but made thousands of mittens. Going to make at least 6 pairs for next Christmas. I got a Pattern from 1936 I think it was. Definitely the 1930s from

    http://purplekittypatterns.com

    I hope that works.

Kathy thinking of Sam and I hope he is home again now.

They have hundreds of vintage patterns all free. American I am afraid. I do find sometimes I have to adjust patterns or make then larger for children or smaller for adults. I am not sure if it is not that my DGS2 is rather tall for his age.

Where do I send squares to for both Sam and Mrs Twins please? Have not actually done any yet arthritis playing up. Poor DS can't walk due to his. He is the same age I was when mine started, will be 21 in three weeks. It was getting better so as we had heavy snow yesterday he went for milk and bread while I was at the hospital. Mr M is about 10 minutes away, it is uphill so I rather think it was the walk back down as it is his knees that are bothering him at the moment. It is taking him longer than me to go up or down stairs.

It snowed heavily over night but it has all gone now. Still very cold. Keep warm everyone.

nursemaggie- your link didn't take me to the patterns but the one below does. Lovely selection of knitting, crochet, cross stitch and sewing - vintage and new, hope to get time to browse them today. If you pm CHALKY 75 and MRS TWINS they will send you their addresses for the squares.

Bit cold and horrid weather wise in my little patch of the world, so the fire is banked up and I have a comfy chair with a load of yarn and a crochet hook by my side - hot drinks will no doubt be required during the day, enjoy your Saturday folks, keep safe and warm. Those polar bears could be quite at home with me!
