Just to let you know, a message from Innocent re the hats:
"We've been going on about it for ages now but very soon we're going to stop, because the deadline for your Big Knit hats is Friday 12th December. Which is very, very soon. So if you're sitting on loads of hats that you haven't sent in yet, please get them in sharpish. And if you're still frantically knitting away, it's time to cast off and give your hands a well-earned rest until February, when we hope you'll be using them to grab a behatted bottle from a shelf near you."
I'm still not regular visitor to this thread so I'll just wish everyone improving and good health and lots of happiness and relaxation! I've sold my house and move to a rental which is about a quarter the size in dimensions as well as room numbers - ie although I don't hit my head on the ceilings I do on the doors and none of my furniture fits! However I did think I'd be spending a bit more time with our online community by now, only all the utilities and services which I expended much energy organising before the move still require hours and hours on the phone now getting faults and problems corrected! So still exhausted with continuing health problems but actually I do think that the rural location is bringing more benefits than frustrations.
Mind you, the extent to which the advent of privatisation has allowed people to fall through the cracks is really emphasised. eg To get a disabled travel pass if you don't have a passport you need a photo. This village has one bus a week to the nearest small town, where the Post Office, now run by W H Smith, advertises a passport checking service. In spite of this, and in spite of the fact that the thing which most often needs correction is the quality of the photo, they no longer have any way of taking a photograph and neither does ANYWHERE else in the town. You can get a bus to another town, but you can't get back again before the only bus back to the village leaves. So to get a pass to use on what public transport there is you have to have a car. The PO is privatised, so is the bus service and there is no requirement to make services 'join up' so it is the vulnerable and at risk who suffer. There used to be a bus to a larger town, but it was stopped 'due to lack of use' - but before that happened the route was altered so that it took twice as long and went around lots of villages (who had already lost their direct service). The majority of users were OAPs or disabled. The bus seated 16 and 4 standing. Many passengers would be travelling between villages so on average the number on the bus didn't exceed 16 for the majority of the journey, but those passengers couldn't risk being the one who had to stand on a moving bus for 10 or 20 minutes until someone got off. So they stopped using it. So the service was removed.
At least I managed to post my IS hats off before leaving!0 -
Hello one and all.... Still struggling a bit as the infection set neuralgia off in my head( the remaining problem after having facial shingles three times!!!!) they actually give you anti depressants for neuralgia ... They found that they stop the pain. Well if I take one it turns me into a sleepy zombie!! So I have been taking them as I go to bed .. And the one advantage is you get a very good nights sleep. Just wish it would clear up with Christmas approaching and William coming home on the 19th
Dear oh is painting one wall in our lounge and what an upheaval ... But soon be done.
I am crocheting another Granny square blanket . Charity bound. It's amazing that modern slavery is being highlighted on the news and that was what the Blanket of Hope was for in Spain . Thanks to amazing generosity I managed to gather together 120 Euros in total. Thank you so much for the generous contributions from my cyber sisters here!!!!
It's very quiet in the village and although I am thinking about lists I am not into crazy Chrustmas mode yet.
I hope everyone is getting well. Able to deal with poorly relatives, enjoying their crafting and sending Edna on her way.

Just a quick look round the door I am supposed to be packing for Spain ...O how I hate doing that I can never make up my mind what to take...shouldn't be too difficult for just a week now should it? hmmm thats the theory anyway...but having said all that I am impatient to get there
I must find a corner to hide some woolly stuff and a hook;)
We so need a break, these last few months since July when Mom broke her hip have been horrendous, but hopefully things will settle now Mom is permanent at the care home and is so happy to be there with someone around day and night, which is a huge relief for us.
I have read though but nothing seems to have sunk in so I am sending my appologies and a huge collective (((hug))) to you all, and I hope you are all as well as can be Love Annie xx0 -

:wave:Hello from a very cold Aberdeen, it's perishing outside. Snow on the way maybe ?
Sorry been mia for a while but LIFE just gets in the way sometimes.
Not been doing much in the way of charity stuff lately, more family orientated just now, although an odd square gets done now and again, just to use up the last wee bit of yarn if there's enough. If not, it gets wound on to the odds'n'sods ball to be knitted up into a kitty cat blanket eventually.
Not back to work - they've taken on more staff and there's not a job for me. Well there is but it's not what I was doing before, is more strenuous and longer shifts. Not exactly suitable.
Looks like rain or snow on their way so am off to get some logs in for the fire. Son swept the chimney yesterday so all ready for Santa's visit to little J,and less chance of it catching fire when I decide to have a cosy fire.
Hugs to anyone who needs one at this busy, stressful time of year. Take care and stay warm.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Bumping this to ask a question.
I have at least 125 gms of left over sock weight yarn. You know, the bits left over from several pairs in different colours.
Suggestions for it's use? I've looked around and it seems like a scarf is the main idea out there but has anyone here successfully done this?0 -
Wondercollie - Do you crochet ? Pattern using sock yarn.

Hellooooo .... Been fighting/ loving my Christmas tree. But all decorated now. So, wanted to pop in and send lots and lots of love to one and all on this third week of Advent.
I am a little overexcited at present with the thought of William arriving on Friday. If I have tweaked his monster quilt, organised his books and toys and checked his drawers once it's been a hundred times!!!!
I am hooking a Lappy and yesterday afternoon I sat down a watched a film to stop me just chasing around in circles.... The result was the blanket is growing in super fast time... Hook is Smoking! And the film ... The Story Of Benjamin Button. Thought provoking !!
Take care dear Cyber sisters and I hope your days are not troubled but as soft as yarn. I hope your lists are not long but full of thoughts of friends. I hope your face is calm not etched with worry and I hope your chair is ready for the gentlest hug as you sit and craft xxxxxxxxTry and do a good deed every day.0
