Thanks, Jean. Bless you, Ginnyknit, jumping up and down like that!

Jean, you must be fuming at DH going out but I can understand how frustrating the last couple of months must have been for him - and for you! I hope he got back safely and won't do that again until he's be told he can.

Back later - overslept this morning to lots to do to catch up with myself!

    Have a good day, everyone.

Hi Pippa - yes, I think it's a good idea to have the Sailors' hats as a category of their own.

All ideas for the new What We Do are welcome, as are any causes that some of us may be doing individually. The idea of Knit Your Square remains, but it is sort of evolving - a sign of the times, perhaps - so I think a new thread in the new year would sort of 'refresh' it, IYKWIM!

    Hi everyone.

Chalky - I hope you feel much better soon. I know there are some rotten bugs doing the rounds right now, both here and in the UK. You're in Spain now, aren't you? Seems the bug is on a round-the-world jaunt. I am hoping that what I picked up when we were in the south of France was my one and only dose of it for this year.

I hope no one else here is suffering. A friend of mine and her husband here in France had it for about three weeks, and another friend in the UK had hers turn into a chest infection, so she is on antibiotics which are doing the trick. This is the worst thing about this time of year, I think.

Anyway, not much going on in my neck of the woods right now. I have several WIPs but not the motivation to get them finished. I think it's because I really convinced myself we would have been sold up and back at home by this Christmas, and I am having to get used to the idea that I'll have to postpone that thought until next year. Still, there are worse things happening in the world, so I can't complain.

Anyway, off to put the kettle on and get the day started.

chalky the throat sounds horrible hope you are feeling better today.

moiliere I think the WIPS accumulate and you cannot face them. I have about 6 that I stopped to start on my Christmas presents. Now they all need posting, one parcel has gone, I can't get the motivation either. I think this was the point when I previously took a few weeks break from knitting before going back to it.

What I have to do is I have 6 garments to sew up and two of them need button bands. Need I say more.

I hope you can sell your house in the new year. I guess you have probably already moved in your mind which makes it harder to bear the wait.

I guess everyone else is busy with preps for Christmas. I hope there are no more sick ones.

Thank you for your kind words, Nursemaggie; I'm one of many over here trying to sell up and move back, and some far more desperate than I am. I know it will happen, and will just have to be patient in this very slow market! As for the WIPs, as you say, I think it's the same old, same old - the finishing off; it's such a bore and I often wonder why we resent that bit so much!

An early good morning from me. I woke up early and could not get back to sleep, so I've had several cuppas to keep me going and will definitely be looking to have a snooze on the sofa this afternoon!

Chalky - I hope you are feeling better now. I know several people who have had that rotten bug, and they've all had to get antibiotics, so it seems it's a pretty nasty one doing the rounds this time.

Mrs Moneypenny - wow, you've been really busy; those stockings are gorgeous.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement about selling our house here. A friend of mine here moved to France with her husband a few years ago; it was his dream to live here, not hers, but, sadly, he died three years ago, and she has been trying to sell up ever since. She had a call from an estate agent on Monday saying that someone wanted to view her house on Tuesday; the same person came back for a second viewing on Wednesday and, by that afternoon, she had accepted an offer! She had been feeling so down about it all then, within the space of a couple of days, her life has been transformed, so it shows that it does happen! I am so pleased for her - I get fed up waiting for that buyer, but it must be so much worse on your own, especially if you didn't want to come here in the first place. We will be going all out to sell up next spring if we can; DH has been put on medication for high blood pressure (and this in a man who is never ill; I made him go to the doctor when he confessed that he kept feeling his heart racing, and that he wasn't breathing normally) and I think it's about time we got on with the next chapter. Life is just a bit too challenging for us here!

It has been really cold, damp, and dull here this week; such a change from the sunshine and mild temperatures we had just last week. I think winter is most definitely here!

It's my youngest son's 33rd birthday today, so I will be Skyping him later on. He and his little family have finally exchanged contracts on their new house, after a bit of a delay with the people buying his current house. They move on 19th but his little girls couldn't wait to get the Christmas tree up, so they've done that, but will have to re-do it when they get into the new house. The girls are 5 and 3, so are full of that magical excitement about Christmas! Their new house has a 'secret' garden, so they are excited about that, too!

I have done a pile of baby hats and booties which friends will take back to the UK with them when they go back for Christmas, and now I am concentrating on finishing off some presents - as soon as my son's birthday has been and gone, I realise just how close Christmas is!

We have been invited to friends for Christmas day and night, and we'll be staying over. I am really looking forward to that because it will help take my mind off not being able to be with the family. They have a huge but very friendly mastiff dog (he weighs 11st!) and two lovely cats, so we will be sharing our dinner with them, no doubt.

Anyway, I've rambled on so it's time for another cuppa.

I hope that the poorlies get better very soon, and that everyone else stays healthy!
