Went shopping yesterday, spent £43.70  but am hoping this will last until at least next wednesday, which is the next time I can do a 'big shop'. I do need some bits and pieces, like veg and milk, but I'm hoping everything else is covered.
Just remembered my Asda bill also has a duvet cover on it which cost about £4 something, but its going back on saturday as OH doesnt like it, so might use the money I get back to pay for veg for the weekend, so thats less cash I have to pull out.

:T I spent yesterday cooking a massive chicken curry, which I have split into 3 meal trays (those foil ones from the chinese type) Cooked a lovely Liver casserole, which was supposed to be split into 2 meals, but most of it got polished off last night, and I had the rest for my lunch today. Am using Sundays left over Pork tonight for, Pork balls in batter and vegtable rice, his nibs can have his vindapoo sauce on it! Wednesday we will be having one of the Currys, Thursday - Jacket spuds, with spag sauce, cooked a batch of tomato sauce base! So just need to use some mince that has been in my freezer for a few months. Friday, Cod Peas and Chips. Saturday Burgers n' chips. This will leave some room for some more bits n' bobs after I have defrosted the freezer. Sunday I will have to go shopping, but will try to get some reduced meat n' veg. OH is loving having me make his "Box" up in the mornings, and he proudly told me that his mate didn't have half as much in his! So today he hasn't got as much!! LOL that'll teach him!
I went to Asda this morning to pick up a few little bits that we needed - Fabric conditioner, cling film, baking potatoes, Cat food, Sugar and THAT WAS ALL I BOUGHT! I couldn't believe it, I managed to keep away from everything else, just got what was on my list!:T Today spent £7.08 :T Hopefully wont need anying else till SundaySig ah Sig Ahhh0 -
Tuesday lunchtime and a quick count up .... £15.66 left from the £50 ... £10.50 needed for Milkman on Thursday so that makes .... £5.16 to last until Friday. Breakfasts and dinners sorted. Need fruit - we eat loads - and packup stuff for kids starting tomorrow - but am going to make bread rolls and flapjacks etc, so we just might do it. Fingers crossed.
BTW a bit cross topic I know, but anyone know how to make flapjacks chewy instead of crunchy? DS has a brace fitted and can't crunch!!!Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Had my Tesco order delivered tonight which came to £38.84  but it should have cost more cos I saved £8.93 with BOGOFs:D
This brings my total for the month to £148.97 leaving £51.03 for rest of the month. I'm feeling confident though as we're now well stocked up and I even included store cupboard ingredients like flour, sugar, etc for baking which I don't normally buy so I can start to make food go further and cook more from scratch.
I'm already planning a nice casserole for tomorrow night with some seasonal veg and some organic diced steak that was reduced to pennies in Asda weeks ago and has been sitting in the freezer waiting for me to make it into something interesting!!:D
Don't think I'll need to spend much at all now in the next 2 weeks:jOfficial DFW Nerd - Member 408 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!0 -
Went to Aldi today and spent just over £26 and then onto Tesco and only spent £16, although I did spend my vouchers!
Tesco has lots of BOGOFs on useful stuff at the moment...pasta sauces, cereal etc. So even if you are planning to go to one of the cheaper stores this week it might be worth checking out their prices on the website first.0 -
Im in ,,,,,,,, and will need all the help i can get from you all . Any tips welcome
I have always been frugal with everything ,,,,so im used to doing it , but this month is going to be a killer,
Basically my OH has changed jobs,,it was a huge decision for us , as his wages are vastly reduced,,,,,,,,,,, but the job is less stressful , but thats another story, .........he started the new job yesterday , and will be paid at the end of the month .
His "old" job was also monthly pay ,so it "should " have worked out ok , but a mix up with wages, to cut a long story short , weve ended up with one week , and one days pay, to last the whole month .ouch !!
I shop all over the place , find i get more bargains that way , and am lucky as i have most of the shops to choose from , even Jack Fultons & Home Bargains ,
The family consists of 4 adults one cat & one dog.
but our DD buys most of her own food ,
When she came back home , brought her 2 cats too . but im asured its only temporary :rotfl:
I always cook from scratch .......freeze any leftovers, to make another meal , i have an upright fridge freezer, and a small chest freezer , which are both about half full ........... and have a slow cooker. and a food processor , which is handy. as i can turn food into "other" foods if you know what i mean . Luckily "my lot" will eat most things, but prefer plain foods as opposed to spicy. Im making the most of Blackberries available free, walk the dog, and fill a box ,
I dont have a vegatable garden , but my victoria plum tree might have saved me , as it has produced HUNDREDS of plums , which ive exchanged with friends for other things , like today i swapped my uncle a big bag of plums, for some beetroot , a couple of tomatoes, and a bag of kidney beans,
( beans have gone in the freezer) .
I buy reduced bread and pastries. and freeze them , ( hopefully i can get more soon , as im down to about 3 loaves ) i have to do packed luches for 2 adults every day . so the bread is needed.
I have enough cleaning stuff . and the car has quite a bit of petrol so hopefully if we are careful it will manage till pay day .
I have made an inventory of whats in my freezer. fridge , and store cupboard...and look at my notebook , to sort out what the meals are going to be . based on what i have, ,,, i have some rice. pasta, most of the basics, i usually only meal plan a day in advance,,,,,,again based on what i have ,,,,and i use "Cooking By Numbers" website if im really stuck .
Tomorrow i have surplus milk left that needs using up ( Made a rice pudding in the slow cooker ) so we are having pancakes for tea tomorrow , either with squeezed oranges . treacle or jam on ,
My usual budget is £70 a week , but i can always get it way under that
( Around £45-£50) but even that budget has gone out the window this month ,wish me luck ..... i'll need it .0 -
BTW a bit cross topic I know, but anyone know how to make flapjacks chewy instead of crunchy? DS has a brace fitted and can't crunch!!![/QUOTE]
do you put golden syrup in your flapjacks? if not that makes them nice and chewy0 -
I am £78 so far. This includes paying the milkman for 3 weeks worth of milk this morning.
I reckon this will last me til the end of week 2 except for some bread, so I'm really pleased considering I was going for £80 a week
Never realised how frugal I could be!!:j0 -
Eeek! Feel like I'm slipping a bit already! Have spent somewhere around £70 this week but £10 of that was on a huge chunk of Silverside Beef to be put in the freezer for Christmas. I know exactly where I have gone wrong and it's the not having meal plans set for the week ahead so instead of doing my shopping online for a whole week at a time like I did in August, I am currently deciding on a meal and then getting my bits in Sainsburys in the morning and that's when it starts creeping up.
So, my homework for tonight is get this bloomin' meal plan sorted for this week and next and get my online shopping done for next week. Might have a look at others menu plans on here and get some inspiration.
Can't fail on my first official monthly challenge now, can I?:o0 -
Went shopping yesterday and spent £26.87.
Very pleased as that will hopefully last me the next 2 weeks, I tried to be more organised and made myself a 2 week meal plan.
Bought 2 chickens in Adsa (2 for £5) froze one whole and butchered the other. I froze the parts so instead of having to defrost and cook the whole thing I can just take out a leg or breast!
This now leaves me £23.13 for the rest of the month, and as £12 of that will be dog food it only leaves me with £11.13. But IT CAN BE DONE!Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!
