ASA - sorry cant help with your loan query, but just wanted to say I am disgusted at the comments made by some of you on this thread.
The guy is askng a questions, either help or shut up.
Martins message - no one asks a stupid question. You were all young once, give the guy a chance and give him some help for gods sake.
Now either post a sensible reply or go and boil your heads.

GUYS!!!
He's just 18...dont you think maybe a lot of you are being way too harsh on him???
If this were your son/daughter would you appreciate people speaking to him in the way you all are ?
Wutang - i find you the most arrogant obnoxious person on this whole board !!!
And ...... before you come out with some total crap that i wouldnt wana hear anyways... YOU ARE ON MY IGNORE LIST ...!!!0 -
My son had a student loan from the student loan company. Can you get a grant? He did for the first 2 years but then he could only have a student loan. He didn't have as much as you were asking for - he had enough to pay for his course and about a thousand spare which has to be paid back when he has a decent job. Unfortunately i do not think you would be able to get a loan at your age and because of course you are in college. I don't know what someone in your situation could do. Sorry0

To the OP,
as said throughout this thread and the thread where you asked the same question on the Student Money Saving board, there are no loans available to you where you get the money now and only have to repay after you start earning over a certain amount. These are a specific type only available to students in higher education on a eligible course.
Therefore any loans you may be able to get will need to be paid back from day one and are likely to have a high interest rate.
If you are guarnteed a job already then a credit card company MAY be willing to give you a 0% credit card for 16 months but you are unlikely to get the amount you feel you need.
There a number of grants from charitable agencies around which you may be able to apply for but again, a lot won't give you money unless you can prove hardship. How are the rest of the people on your course coping? Do they have jobs/loans? Could you ask for a set of knives for your birthday? Have you contacted your college's student support to ask for advice?
Take the advice that everyone on these boards have given you. Stop thinking you'll be able to get the equivalent of a student loan as that is not possible in your case.
Contact your college's student services, ask if they'll give you a hardship grant or loan.
Look at the grant search link above and see if you can apply for any grants on there.
Apply for every job in your area, not just catering/hospitality ones.0
