Get yourself a push bike and ride! My husband is a head chef and up to last week cycled 10 miles to work and 10 miles back 6 days a week - he has now saved and has got his driving licence and bought a car.
Even though you say that your college can get you a job in a high end hotel this will be on minimum wage and will be long hours, my husband is 32 and even though he is a head chef the wages still aren't great.0 -
there is a commis chef position and the Le Manoir aux Quat'Saison available to me in October, i want to do anything i can to secure that job, if it means getting a loan and working my !!! off to pay it off, then so be it, this is probably the best offer im going to get in a long time..

you dont need to speak french when you are working with brittish people
Check their careers website. It's a requirement to have basic French, and fluent in English. I'm not sure you're either. So either you're lying about having this job offer, or about it all - you've still not answered half the questions put to you. http://www.oeh.com/jobs/career_list.asp?bu=olem0 -

minimum wage and long hours is worth working in a place like that just to have it on my CV. i enjoy working hard and working with food, so that isnt a problem for me at all

my catering group has already been to this hotel as a treat to do the day cooking course, we spoke to the chefs there, every single one was english, ive already been interviewed for the job and nothing about french came up.if you have been to this hotel (sure none of you havent) then you would know how much i want to work there.
im not making any of this up, i really dont care if you dont belive me, why should i care what you small minded people think of me?My only credit: Contract phone for £25 p/m they gave me (no joke!) 3x 8gb micro sd's, 1x extra battery, 1x spare charger, SIXTY QUID CASH!, TWENTY FIVE POUND CHEQUE!, 2x 2gb micro sd's, SE Satio, 300mins, 3000txts, unlimited internet! from P4U too! :beer:0 -

If you've already interviewed for the job, the job which is listed on the website and requires basic French, then you have a offer then presumably? And therefore don't need to do anything to secure it? Make your mind up. We're still waiting to hear how the college in the middle of nowhere, with apparently no public transport links, finds any students to attend?0 -

that job on the site is not the one offered to me.
by getting transport to oxford IS securing the job
the college is a small catering college with about 30 students from around, some of them drive, some of their parents drive them in. i will ask on monday how they get in and what mode of transport they use and i'll let you knowMy only credit: Contract phone for £25 p/m they gave me (no joke!) 3x 8gb micro sd's, 1x extra battery, 1x spare charger, SIXTY QUID CASH!, TWENTY FIVE POUND CHEQUE!, 2x 2gb micro sd's, SE Satio, 300mins, 3000txts, unlimited internet! from P4U too! :beer:0 -

That's interesting to know that you've secured the only kitchen job that doesn't require basic French. Doesn't exist. We are getting ourselves in a pickle now, aren't we? What happened to all the knives and new whites then?0
