You've reminded me that my mum used to make Rumtopf and plums, damsons and stuff used to go in there. Will need to look out recipe but basically from what I remember she used an earthenware wide mouthed jar, put the fuit in and covered it with rum (not sure if sugar is involved but think it must be)
She kept adding different fruits.
End result was scrummy rum and great alcohol soaked fruit which was mean with ice cream.0 -
You can flavour vodka with anything!
With fruit just putting it in alcohol should be enough to preserve it, add a bit of sugar if you think you need it. Then if you preserve plums in alcohol you can boil down the liquid when you use the fruit, as a sauce - YUM!;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Can I do anything like that with Bacardi rum too?0

I use 2lb plums
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of vodka
1/2 cup brandy
Wash, stone and cut plums into halves. They then all go into a container in acool dark place for 2 months and are stirred occasionally.
I then strain until clear, then bottle - best if left to age for another month which if we do it now will be about right for xmas prezzies! yum!!"all endings are also beginnings. We just don't know it at the time..."0 -
