Free bluray player with HD tv at tescos

  • Well I didn't realise that I would start a war! I have spoken to tescos this morning and they are still not budging. A few points to make, 1st we brought the tv as an ex display which were all bunched together with no sign of the blu ray offer. The offer was with the blu ray players. The label offering the deal was still being diplayed (advertised) and I have it in my purse as proof. I believe it is rather underhand of tescos to dishonour the advertised offer which should have been pointed out at the time. All the none display tvs had the offer advertised with the tv's so are tescos being unfair by not displaying the offers with the ex display models????

The offer might only apply to new TV's.

After reading that the TV you purchased was ex display, I dont feel that you have a leg to stand on as you would have got the tv at a discount price and therefor the offer would not have applied and it is more than likely in tesco's t&c's for the offer that it is not able to be used in conjunction with any other offer (discounted tv)

Legally, Tesco probably does not have to honour this offer.
Morally, and as a company that tries to set high customer service standards, they should offer the deal as a gesture of good will. Many of the best companies would and do retrospectively honour their offers.

We are meant to be promoting good practices in this forum. We should put pressure on companies to step up and go above and beyond what is expected of them... not to simply apply the letter of the law.

We are also here to point out when the retailer is in the right which by the sounds of it they are. If this went to court I would put a 90:10 chance of Tescos winning.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Now I know it's a display model I doubt you have a leg to stand on, hope you got a really good deal as the TV could have been used for months.

You would think Tesco, with all their money and technology, could follow the good practice of other stores which are able to program their tills to display any free items with purchases. I have bought numerous products where a kindly cashier has said "you can get X free with this".

They do...and obviously ex-display stuff is excluded. Did you read all of the posts in this thread?

You make a fair and valid point and we should do all we can to encourage fair treatment of the customer, however this is a Consumer Rights forum not a Consumer Goodwill forum and this thread all focussed around whether the OP had the right to demand the Blu-Ray and to sumarise the responses he didn't and if he did get it it would be goodwill :).

Yes I did. But excuse me for losing the will to read the squabbling. I have obviously missed the specific post that says "the tills are programmed to flag up linked purchases".

Go and nit pick someone elses post in this thread, there are plenty to choose from.:(
