Free bluray player with HD tv at tescos

Hi all, I'm hoping someone will know my:mad: rights on this issue as I'm getting nowhere with tescos store! My complaint is that today we went to our local tesco home store in Telford looking for a blu ray player to go with the 40inch Samsung HD TV we bought last week. We noticed a sign with the samsung blu ray players offering the player free when purchased with any samsung 40 inch HD tv! When I questioned staff about this they said the offer expired on the 31st may. Scening as we brought our tv the week before I asked why we were not given this offer worth £160.00! tescos are saying that because the offer has expired there is nothing they could do even though I have a full receipt for the tv purchase. Does anyone know my rights? I have kept the tesco label advertising the free blu ray player also to help my case.

Was the label not there when you bought the tv originally? Do you know for certain that the offer was on when you bought the tv, or did it run for one week only?

  • Hiya yes the offer was on at the time of purchase and that has been confirmed to me by the manager there. I have the label that was on display to prove it.

If Tesco's still stock the blu ray then I would say they are obliged to give it to you, in store you need to speak to the manager, not a dept manager. If that fails contact Tesco's head office and tell them that you feel cheated and ask them what they are prepared to do.

If all else fails I'd return the TV for a refund.

    Just a couple of questions.

If the offer was on when you bought the TV why did you not notice it then? Was the offer not displayed?

Did you need to apply for the blu-ray offer i.e. ask for the offer to applied at the time of sale?

I suspect the answer is going to be that the offer was displayed next to the Blu Ray player not the television, and the OP was not looking for a Blu Ray player at the time.

They are not legally obliged to give it to you at all, the deal was concluded based on the transaction at the time.

Why would you return the TV when the offer is over? just to spite Tesco?

Why would you buy from a company that doesn't honour it's offers, damn right to spite them.

    Tesco are honouring the offer.
The OP bought the TV and didnt know about the offer and didnt present the bluray player at the time of sale.

Tesco have no obligation to tell the OP of the offer or honour it in hindsight, furthermore the OP has no right to a refund anyway.
  • The OP offered to buy the TV (sans blu-ray) at a price which Tesco accepted. It is up to the OP to take any additional inducements up at the time not for Tesco to retrospectively change a deal that the OP agreed to.

They may be nice, but you are not entitled to anything.
