    Just thought I'd share my experience of Shell Direct. :mad: I've been buying my oil from them for a few years. Because of the tight entrance to my drive I have had to specify "the small lorry". Indeed this was noted in my account record anyway.
    Last week I phoned and placed my order as usual. On the day on which delivery was due Shell Direct rang me to say they had tried to make the delivery using a large lorry but had to go away again (surprise surprise). The young lady explained that the small lorry wouldn't be in my area for about a week so the delivery was rescheduled for today. Fortunately my tank wasn't critically low.
    When the delivery had not taken place by mid-afternoon today, I rang to enquire. I was told that as they had damaged their lorry on a previous delivery they would no longer be delivering to me.
    I subsequently had a few sharp words with the operations manager who explained that I needed to have deliveries made by a mini tanker not a small lorry and they did not have a mini tanker!
    They had four opportunities to approach me to inform me of the problem:
    1 When the tanker was supposedly damaged on my property (apparently about a year ago);
    2 When I placed my recent order;
    3 When they made the aborted delivery;
    4 Today, when they saw the rescheduled delivery on their route list.
    Shell Direct don't want me as a customer but I want to ensure that whomever I now buy my oil from, doesn't obtain their supplies from Shell. Does anyone know which suppliers are unconnected to Shell?
    TIA
    Possibly they did not know there was a problem until they told the driver (often independents) the schedule, at which point he commented that he was not doing it because of a previous problem, so that was the first the operators may have known about it (just a guess).

    From what I gather you can never really guarantee whose tanks any particular delivery comes from. I don't go in for all this 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' .. just go for whoever is cheapest.

    900 litres from Bangor Fuels today cost me £373.
  • check out www.heatingoil.co.uk - they don't charge you for using your credit card - I've found them to be up to 5p cheaper than the oil companies in my area, and usually 1 - 2p cheaper than boilerjuice...

    hope that helps.

  • Redon Fuels (Newtownabbey) on 02890365440 were doing for 500 litres at £224 yesterday. They said the price is due to go up further! I got 200 litres for £108. It terms of how long it last all depends on how you use it, the size and type of your house, etc. 500 litres would do me 6 months in my two bed house, where my brother would use 900 litres in that time for his four bed!
