I have replied on your thread MW very exciting. As you may have realized things at work are a bit odd at the moment, my big project has been cancelled but other opportunities are there and I am enjoying myself most of the time, though re-organizing is stressful. I have a place to do an MA which is good. I don't really know what I am doing at home, at work, personally etc. So paying off is more important as I may retire/may not retire/might be made redundant etc, etc. Every time I think that I have a definite plan I wobble.

I am re-doing this years target to be more do-able so I want to get the mortgage down to £168k by Christmas and for it to be my only debt, I have £5k on 0%cards which has paid for more work on the house and yes it really is finished now, door handles and everything!

I am having a few days in France in October but the big thing is my driving course for phobics at the end of September, sorting that out is a very big thing for me. for the first time ever I have started looking at cars".......... Flipping heck they are a price aren't they?

and all things crossed the sale of my flat is going through.....

So here we are 20 weeks left in 2011. I am doing my August spending diary to see if I can get a handle on where the money actually goes. I have £35 spending money for the next seven days, so let's see where that gets me to.

20 weeks left :eek::eek:! I feel like I'm just getting into 2011 now, and its almost over :rotfl:!

Thanks so much for the advice on the second home situation. It helped me realise I'm not in a position at the moment to get one :(, but also highlighted what I need to learn in time to get one :).

Definitely keep a spending diary, you seem to get a lot out of it when you do one. Are you going to post on here daily?

Spending diaries are cool. Mine has stacked bar charts of categories, and gives me almost as much fun playing with it as my mortgage one does. :D

    Coffee £2.10.
Train fares (September/October to house) £127.00 this is a good saving on week-end returns that are now £78 per week-end, but it is expensive when you do them in a big lump.

Paid the last payment to the builder £469, woo and indeed hoo.

I go into the rest of the month with £587 in the bank, £100 in £2 coins, and £10 in my purse - bring it on.

Coffee £2.10, milk 85 pence. London is absolutely airless, a big storm must be on the way. I have a lovely long week-end ahead in what I really hope will be the cooler north.

Coffee £2.10, shopping £8.67, taxi £18.50 (will claim back). In bed at home contemplating a lovely day of sorting and clearing with a bit of not too enjoyable ironing at some point. I am not going to see anyone or do anything I don't choose to, bliss.

I have planted out my lupin plants and hollyhocks to flower next year.

I am now attacking a sewing machine free-cycled from a neighbour. It's an Elna 7000 really dirty but all bits are there so fingers crossed I am about to douse the mechanical innards with machine oil whilst keeping the computer bits dry, if it works I will have a stupendous machine if it doesn't there will have to be a trip to the tip!

No spending today, no spending yesterday. This is a rare and wonderful thing. Good week ahead I am going to see Kevin Spacey in Richard III on Wednesday, a long awaited treat.

I have started to clear the piles of bags and boxes that the builders dumped into the cellar, what a horror everything smells musty and is very dusty, I am not clear why clothes and fabric ended up in the cellar but they did. I have done 7 loads of washing today making the most of the good weather to get everything dry. I had a lot of knitting wool that somehow ended up down there it smelt disgusting. i machined it all into a pillowcase and washed them in the machine, they have all dried and it seems to have worked - result. Sadly there is a lot more to do and I haven't made much of a headway on the pile of stuff. Next week-end I am probably staying in London, unless it is boiling hot in which case I will be forced out of my south facing flat which quickly gets as hot as Hell.
