AlienRik - I thought better of you than to compare a 40" to a 42", that's actually a lot more area. People that like to burn their retinas will be better with an LCD, people who want an accurate picture will want a plasma, and won't use that much more power, size for size. Definately worth it in my opinion.
And how does a 1080p LCD give a sharper picture than a 1080p plasma attrixblue ?0 -
Bag of bollox if you want some sound with your piccy. See reviews.
However, I must agree about poor sound quality but what set in this price range has good sound? Seriously. I would like to know as I would like a reasonably priced tv with quality sound output.A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.0 -
I prefer Plasma to LCD and probably wont change until OLED is stable in the marketplace. We have a 42" Hitachi Plasma on the wall and even after 5 years it's picture is still brilliant. I can put up with it using a bit more power as I dont have to put up with blurs, smears and poor black images!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

A 46" LCD still doesnt come close to a 42" Plasma for using power. It was just the 1st thing I came against so posted it:idea:0 -
I respectfully disagree. Panasonic G20 50" is rated at 335 max (that's a static bright white screen I guess) but average in use consumption of 201w. 50" LCDs will use around 200w I thought?0

Well this Toshiba is a 46" and is 135 watts once calibrated ~

Struggling to find anything bigger thats fairly recent so all I can also point to is a 46" LED backlight which is this one

Clocking in at just 60 Watts once calibrated!
Taking this 40" sony ~

rated at 104 watts then id guestimate under 170 Watts for a 50" screen
That said I do agree that with the 'latest technology' LCD v Plasma 50" screens theres probably very little in it. The older pans' and pioneers used to burn electricity for fun though:idea:0 -
Forgot to add this 42" Pan

172 watts calibrated and only reviewed in March:idea:0 -
Hi
we have just bought a Panasonic 32 inch lcd with built in freesat and freeview I can't quite remember the model number but it was purchased from John Lewis (5 year guarantee) 499.00. the picture quality is excellent and the sound is quite good as well. It replaces our 4 year old crt Panasonic which was operating perfectly but was not HD obviously. Tv brands and types are really a personal choice, but for me Panasonic is the best."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
