What concerns me is that the abandoned car was given such a high priority! usually it takes weeks and several phone calls from different people (including to the council) before said vehicle is dealt with! but thats this area - perhaps the police in YOUR area have nothing better to do?

They're generally given quite high priority because depending on where they are, they're targets for vandalism, theft or fire raising, all of which ultimately cost the taxpayer more, due to a crime then being investigated etc.

I think you lot in the UK should be thankful the police actualy turn up, here on the rare occassion a crime occurs the only way to get the police is to got round to the nearest kebab shop and find one. :D

The police do these things at this time because, it’s generally a quiet time for them, and to cause you, the most inconvenience possible, and so you'll sort the car out. Understandably it's not your problem to sort but they don't know that (I know you've told them), its still registered to your address....

I get your point, but if it's torched etc it's still a crime, still has to be investigated, fire has to be extinguished yada yada yada....
(and for those who think the police do nothing at 5.30am, take it from me, who's just finished a VERY busy nightshift, it's not the case!!!;) ;))

we had one 'abandonned' outside the house.. I left it 3 days (well it might have been someone being responible and walking home after being in the pub..) despite the fact it was on yellow lines and causing an obstruction.. It was towed within an hour of me reporting it!!!

I am quite surprise they even bothered trying to contact ex about it.. normally they would tow it and send him a huge bill for the privelege!!

That's just not true around here. The easiest way to find a copper is to go to the deli counter at Tesco!:D

lol, its usually because its been vandalised or torched that residents realise it HAS been abandoned!

there was a car sitting outside my neighbours house for many weeks but as it was pristine i didnt realise it was abandoned until I asked him when he had bought that car as i thought he was away (he works months at a time several hundred miles away) and he didnt know what i was talking about.
The police must have passed it hundreds of times - yet it turned out to be a stolen vehicle. At least the owner got it back in one piece!!!

We have had something similar to this before, me and DH had been living in a flat for 6 months, then one Thursday morning at 3am we had the door bell ringing non stop, the door rattling like mad from them banging on it and tourches shined through our bedroom window.

We answered the door to find 3 policemen surrounding the door and a another 2 stood back, shouting at us demanding Mr so and so come out, in the end we had to rush round the cupboards to find our passports to prove we weren't this bloke, even I had to and im female, they let themselves in and didnt even appologise when they left.
