Well I hate to say I told you so but...:p I knew you were too anal to let anyone clean your house but you, so it's all for the best. I will be inspecting skirting boards when I next visit.

Now, do you mind popping over to mine and giving it a quick once over? I'm struggling a bit pushing my hoover round on crutches :(

Ha yeah part of it is me being picky maybe but i am also a bit annoyed the bits i ask to be done are not done..not the biggest house ever is it!, and the moving of things is actually really annoying as have to go round putting everything back! If my car was ok id'e happily pop over..typical hey!..i know i'll send my cleaners now they are free lol!

Lol, same as decorators :D I decorate for a living, but I would never have anyone in to do mine, I am the most fussiest person when it comes to decorating for others, and am like it with my own decorating at home.

Going back to the spilled water, bleach?, cant you sniff it where she spilled it, even if its a little bleach in with the water, you would be able to smell it still.

Lol my neighbour says the same. he is a decorator! I like decorating and do that myself too.

when you have time i would love to ask you a question as you obviously take pride in having a clean house. I would love you to just say what cleaning you do in each room as i never feel i do a proper job! I think partly it's because we have a lot of clutter - 4 people and all a bit untidy so by the time I've sorted out/put away i feel like I've done a day's work before the cleaning starts. I would say my house is clean but a 3rd party taking a closer look might have different ideas so would really appreciate a brief checklist of what should be done to get a sparkling clean home!

Hi Melb i have time now..just.. off babysitting shortly!

Ok in my house i will do each room from top to bottom, i give the tiles a wipe, move everything off the surfaces and clean and replace, we have a big usa fridge freezer which is my baby in the kitchen which takes a while to polish up as glossy!, dining room table cleaned, appliances wiped over etc..when i have done all this i sweep and mop the floor with very hot water so it dries quite quickly. I do this every day really as always being used so never needs a really good good going over as such.

When i hoover i will do skirting boards, stair rails as i go along, which i find always looks better than just hoovering and noticed the cleaners don't do now.

Same with bathroom, toilet, bedrooms, lounge etc. I also am always putting cleaner down the loos and bicarb i use loits to keep things clean like the washing machine and bath it is fab on! (again since having the cleaner the bath looks a bit grubby)

I agree with you when you say about the tidying, there are only 3 of us in this house and i am quite minimilistic BUT being a childminder there are always toys around and my dd turning nearly 12 is like a teenager already throwing clothes everywhere! I try to tidy as i go to stop me from doing the same as you as then just get fed up! This is one thing i do at other peoples houses when i clean..they are friends so easier to ask as such but feel like when i walk out there is a huge improvement and looks and feels great!

I do love cleaning but have had more time since having them here..sats will now be a couple of hours doing some now instead!
Hope this helps a bit! x

Well as a cleaner, I am completely un-anal about my own house. Quite frankly it is a tip and I do the minimum I can get away with. I am so tired from doing it full time for others, the last thing I want to do is clean when I get home.

I would have a cleaner in a heartbeat, BUT, would feel I had to tidy up everywhere as it just would not be fair on a cleaner!! My house is not dirty but it is untidy and we have far too much stuff around the place.

So we just muddle along and things do get done but not as well or as often as I would like. :)

Having said that, if I was paying someone to do it, no doubt I would be picky too. It's human nature. :)

I think this is more common - hence the old saying about the cobbler's children being the worst shod.

I wish I could find a decent cleaner. I've had 4 and each one has been rubbish. Admittedly the first one I just asked her to do what she did in her house, unfortunately that was obviously nothing! The crunch came when I asked her to concentrate on the downstairs loo (on a 2 hour visit) and when I came home the sink still had soap scum on it. As each cleaner came and went my instructions became more precise but it didn't make any difference because they didn't follow the instructions. In the end I decided to do it myself but if I found a great cleaner I'd be in there like a shot.

When you have a cleaner, how do you know s/he is not wiping the same cloth around the loo and kitchen?

I've seen maids in hotels wiping bathroom tumblers with towels from the previous occupants. Solved somewhat now by tumblers sealed in plastic.

Sounds exactly like me!! I do deep cleaning in peoples homes Mon-Fri, but the only time mine gets done like that is when I decorate a room lol. I blame the fact that my house is just too small for us and all our stuff - I'm sure if there was more room I'd be more likely to do it because it would be easier!! I do the essentials - kitchen and bathroom but the rest just gets a quick whip around when it looks a bit dusty. The girl I work with is the complete opposite - she's at it before and after work each day, whereas me, I'm just sat here at my pc lol.
