Cleaners

I just don't see things she does so what works for us is when she writes down exactly what she wants doing. I for example don't dust the inside of the doorframes because it doesn't occur to me and I would never in a million years have thought to hoover the backs of the photo frames.
I do now because I know what she wants doing. Might be worth stating exactly what you would like to be done
Thanks i agree with that (although i'm not that anal i hoover my pic frames!!)..it was the first time and i will make sure i do a list and go from there.0 -

Me neither, thats a new one :rotfl: Wow how some people think!0 -
I used to be a cleaner with my own little business and got £10 an hour but i used to everything for that tiles, windows. I know some cleaners won't do windows..the only thing i didn't do was move heavy furniture to hoover. I was always turning work away as i only wanted part time to fit with the family but i had to give it up due to health problem.
I could do an average semi in 2 hours on my own but worked flat out no breaks, so it seems your cleaners are not are not going full out. It should easily be done one up and one down.
But i could never have anyone clean mine as i am way to picky and would always find faultBut funnily enough i'm not as anal with my own house...too much like a busman's holiday!
Hi thanks. Yes i know what you mean about deep cleaning and need to find out what they do/don't do. I personally do anything (within reason!)/everything so maybe that's me!0 -
Me neither, thats a new one :rotfl: Wow how some people think!
She is my boss my landlady and my friend but she does baffle me sometimes :rotfl:she envies people like me that can just sit down and do nothing whilst their house is a 'sh1thole' ie there is a cup in the sink and a crumb near a skirting board somewhere in the house possibly.
Everyone has their lifestyle tho.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0 -
This thread made me laugh. Can you not see the irony of cleaning for someone else and then paying some one else to clean for you! Seriously for an hour you can't expect very much at all, they will no sooner have got their equipment out than the hour will be up, I am surprised they will come to you for one hour! You are the cleaning expert, so why are you asking everyone on here what they think.
When I had a cleaner for 3 hours, she certainly didn't 'do' our then average semi. She would do kitchen, bathroom and hoover.0 -

I have already explained why i have a cleaner and the fact that i clean early? IF i got up at 5.30am like i do to go to work then i may have the house cleaned by 8am but then it's trashed again by say 10am? what's the point of that..just means i do it every day. My employed job is no reflection fn me getting one. While i clean and they do mine i am earning more money and going home to a nice clean house. Could you suggest looking at it from your point of view with the time schedule i have what you would do?
I am not criticising them at all just asking what others get done or do. I personally get 3 hours to do my friends house and do a 3 bed from top to bottom, like i said i am quite a perfectionist so everyone may be different? they say i do a fab job and know i am rushed off my feet so have dropped it to every fortnight which is fine by me.
Oh and also our house is pretty tidy and all surfaces clear etc..literally it is hoover, mop floors, clean work tops etc..nothing too bad. Some houses i ahve done in the past take me admitidly like you said ages just to move stuff so 1 hour is not enough..again there are 2 of them doing a 2 bed house so double the people for the same work i would pay 1 person for.0 -
What I am saying is either my cleaner was a lazy so and so ( which she was ) or we are untidy,Which I know I am not as we tidied before she came! I think you are expecting too much for 1 hour - we had a cleaner when I was a kid as did all my friends and the cleaner would come at least 2 or 3 times a week for a morning or an afternoon. Admittedly these were big houses, but all the same, I think that you are expecting alot for an hour even if the house is tidy you have to get set up and going which can easily take 10 minutes and tehn pack away at the end say 5 - I doubt you would find a cleaner around here prepared to clean for an hour, I still think it is irony!0

I do cleaning and I work solidly for 3 hours in five bedroom houses with two/three bathrooms plus extra loos, massive carpeted areas etc.
I think some people expect miracles of cleaners (not you OP - just musing on this).
For example if people have kids you could go every week and have to clean all the glass panels in the doors, windows, mirrors etc. After this you would not get anything else done.
You can only do so much. Paintwork needs cleaning, bins need emptying, it's like you are expected to be an octopus but without the tentacles.
I like to do what I do properly and thoroughly but sometimes you just can't. For example one house I clean has an aga which is always a real mess, covered in dog hairs, grease etc. It could take easily 45 minutes alone to scrape all the gunk off and get it looking really good. Likewise the tiles behind cookers.
Also some people have what seems like four hundred bottles spread all over the counters and bedroom surfaces. It is crazy to expect a cleaner to remove all these bottles to wipe it over and then replace them all!!
If people do absolutely nothing to maintain the cleaning you have done, then it is like painting the forth bridge. I would love a cleaner too Gaby so I know where you are coming from!!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thanks for the replys.
Ok dont think im asking too much as for 1 hour for 2 of them i asked them to:
mop kitchen floor
mop lounge floor
Mop 2 bedroom floors
Hoover 2 halls and landings
mop 2 bathroom floors
Is that too much for 2 cleaners in 1 hour?..i reckon i could do myself (at a push)but that's me! i think the main point here is we dont have lots of stuff out..looking round the desk is clear..the dining room table is clear..worktops etc (not all the time perfect) but before they come they are!
Just trying to determine how long to get them here for next time depennding on what i want.
Larmy i can understand what you are saying about removing bottles etc as i ahve had this in places and work my butt off..maybe i overdo it!0
