I do cleaning and I work solidly for 3 hours in five bedroom houses with two/three bathrooms plus extra loos, massive carpeted areas etc.

I think some people expect miracles of cleaners (not you OP - just musing on this).

For example if people have kids you could go every week and have to clean all the glass panels in the doors, windows, mirrors etc. After this you would not get anything else done.

You can only do so much. Paintwork needs cleaning, bins need emptying, it's like you are expected to be an octopus but without the tentacles.

I like to do what I do properly and thoroughly but sometimes you just can't. For example one house I clean has an aga which is always a real mess, covered in dog hairs, grease etc. It could take easily 45 minutes alone to scrape all the gunk off and get it looking really good. Likewise the tiles behind cookers.

Also some people have what seems like four hundred bottles spread all over the counters and bedroom surfaces. It is crazy to expect a cleaner to remove all these bottles to wipe it over and then replace them all!!

If people do absolutely nothing to maintain the cleaning you have done, then it is like painting the forth bridge. I would love a cleaner too Gaby so I know where you are coming from!!

Your right it all does depend on how your client lives, kids, pets etc I've only had one's with dogs no kids.

But Gabyjane i do think what your asking should easily be done in an hour, 2 people should walk it...but again maybe i worked too hard :D Are they from an agency?

One lady i had i only used to do an hour for her as she was disabled and confined to a chair so she didn't really use the house... But she always said good cleaners are hard to find. I was aperfectionist too in others houses and always busted a gut as at the end of the day it was my reputation and business.

Hi thanks for the reply! There are 2 of us and dd, we have 2 cats and being a childminder numeorus children and debris BUT as i said to begin with being quite anal and fussy i always clean it and tidy it after every day so it never looks messy! (infact no cleaner this week and 6 kids today so guess where im off in a min!) I still think 1 hour is enough for 2 and next time it will be only 1 of them for 2 hours so will do a list!

I like you am a perectionist so like to do everything well!

Do you have two mop and bucket sets?

That's a lot of the same job so two people would be no good at all unless they are able to take a room each...

That was last weeks task! my point was the house is very tidy and easy to clean as opposed to having tons of furniture and clutter it is quite easy in general to move around without having to move stuff first!

Update..well one came today i asked for a general clean round, things i deff wanted doing were the kitchen, the bathroom, the floors hoovering, deff possible in 2 hours. Got home and the kitchen was in the same state as it was when i left. The halls have been hoovered but a note left to say sorry but she had spilt water on the hall upstairs..i hope to god it comes out as looks awful..she 'hopes' it has no bleach in it?..the rest so so but looks the same.
Maybe it's me but i do far far more and you can tell i have been in once you get home (or so people tell me!) And a little niggle is she moves everything, some not back where it balongs but mostly just leaves it all out, like the bin is miles away from the wall, the toaster kettle etc all in the middle of the worktop so i have to go round putting everything back..is that me or would that bug anyone else?!
    Hmm...

    Hi Gaby!

Yes it would bug me very much. Sounds like you need to make some excuse and get another cleaner. Maybe get someone on recommendation?

All my jobs have come from referrals. We all have our off days, but generally my clients tell me it is such a relief to come home and find everything looking spick and span.

    Good luck. :)

Hehe. I was just remembering one job I had where the lady was running a catering business from her tiny kitchen. I used to walk in and it was wall to wall dirty pots and pans, clutter and mess. I used to have to put everything on the floor so I had some space to work! Looking back I did two hours in that flat and after the kitchen really had to whizz round to clean the rest of it!

    Thanks for the replys.

Ok dont think im asking too much as for 1 hour for 2 of them i asked them to:
    mop kitchen floor
    mop lounge floor
    Mop 2 bedroom floors
    Hoover 2 halls and landings
    mop 2 bathroom floors

Is that too much for 2 cleaners in 1 hour?..i reckon i could do myself (at a push)but that's me! i think the main point here is we dont have lots of stuff out..looking round the desk is clear..the dining room table is clear..worktops etc (not all the time perfect) but before they come they are!

Just trying to determine how long to get them here for next time depennding on what i want.

Larmy i can understand what you are saying about removing bottles etc as i ahve had this in places and work my butt off..maybe i overdo it!

I don't think you are asking too much. I have been a cleaner and employed cleaners. One could have hoovered while the other mopped, surely?
Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x

I never used bleach  just too much of a liability. I don't think your being anal it would bug me if it is an easy layout then it should be back where it came from easily...but i used to have some houses that things changed every week and i used to dust bit by bit to make sure i put stuff where it was :rotfl: Looking back i was a damn good cleaner :D

You have my sympathies and i think you should ditch the cleaners you have :)
